As the weather has become noticeably colder I would like to remind all parents that school jackets are available for the students at our uniform shop. In addition, be assured that whilst we can’t control the exterior temperatures, every classroom at Paeroa College has a heat pump that enables us to keep everyone warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It’s been an exciting week for the junior school. This year Paeroa College has committed to becoming an Enviroschool. Many parents will be familiar with the Enviroschools initiative as a number of our local Primary schools are involved. Fundamentally, developing our awareness of our environment and sustainability are two of our focuses, both in the school and the local community. This week we have kicked off the programme with support from Becky Dove, Mike, Trish and Warren with tree planting, some environmental exploration and some big picture thinking at the College and also at Tarariki stream. Thanks to all that are involved. If you would like to find out more about Enviroschools at Paeroa College, Corrie Anderson is our coordinator. Winter sports kick off with a bang over the next few days and weeks and in particular I would like to highlight our 1 st XV who have their first game of the season on Thursday. We have had huge support from the coaching and management team and I would like to express my thanks to all involved. Any coaching or management role is significant and across all of our sports we have volunteers. Without this group we wouldn’t be able to run such a variety of sports and if you are not involved but have occasional time available please don’t hesitate to contact our awesome sports coordinator Pauline Kisling. Finally from me a request. Over the next two Thursdays we have our HSP meetings. As most of you will know, Paeroa College’s achievement has risen significantly over the past couple of years and we strongly believe that a big driver in this has been the success of the HSP meetings. By now you should have a letter from us detailing an appointment time. Please check it and make sure you can come in – if you can’t please contact the Student Centre for support in changing it. Supporting our kids together is what our learning community is all about. Nga mihi nui, Doug Black
