Known globally as a successful businessman, JonHuntsman, Sr., served as special assistant to PresidentRichard Nixon and is recognized as one of the nation’smost generous philanthropists. His new resort

community in Driggs, Idaho, is made up of top-notch golf, distinctive homes and superb amenities with the majestic GrandTetons as a stunning backdrop. No surprise, Huntsman Springs isalready winning national acclaim — you would expect that withthe Huntsman name and solid financial backing. Talk to anyoneinvolved with the project, and it’s all about quality and a long-termcommitment. For five-time cancer survivor Jon Huntsman, it’spersonal. All profits are going to the Huntsman CancerFoundation.

“Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City is known ashaving the highest quality in the world with superior researchfacilities,” says Huntsman. “Anything we’ve done as a family isdone with quality and a generous human context. WithHuntsman Springs I thought long and hard, and wanted to attachour name and spend decades building a major resort and familyrecreational area.”

Huntsman Springs will offer a spectrum of relaxing, top-notchenticements, all designed to make memories. “We have beautifulhomes, similar to Jackson Hole (on the east side of the GrandTetons, just 45 minutes away), but less expensive,” he says.“Huntsman Springs is the perfect family outing, without theturmoil and traffic of Jackson. We’ve built it so you can walk intoDriggs with lovely stores and fun restaurants — it’s a vacation spotfor the future. Huntsman Springs will be a less tourist-orientedplace with activities for families to enjoy.”

Eight lakes on the property are filled with rainbow trout for acatch-and-release experience, and residents can take a wildernesswalk on the world’s longest boardwalk through the 500-acreprotected wetlands area, go horseback riding or head to nearbyGrand Targhee ski resort just 12 miles away. Classes offered atHuntsman Springs include photography, cooking, wine tasting andpainting, along with fitness-focused yoga, Pilates, water aerobicsand a hiking club. cars and museum-worthy NativeAmerican artifacts to the community.

Huntsman Springs Golf Club is thecenterpiece of the resort. “I told DavidMcLay Kidd before the recession to leaveno stone unturned to make it the finestcourse in America, a destination place forgolfers intrigued by the uniqueness ofBandon Dunes (Oregon)...but superioreven to that course,” says Huntsman. “Eventhough we had to build it through therecession, we did not cut corners and gaveMr. Kidd all the resources to put in one ofthe greatest courses in the world. It is aremarkable golf course, one that will beremembered for many years.”

David Huntsman, Jon’s son and thecommunity’s CEO, says, “Our initialconcern about not being from a golfbackground was unfounded as we reliedon David Kidd and his team, whopromised to give us something that wouldstand the test of time and be interesting 10to 20 years from now. He delivered on hispromise and the response has beenoverwhelmingly positive.”

The course is already on national “best”lists, even though its official opening wasjust last July.

“It’s amazing and one of a kind, trulyjaw dropping,” says Operations ManagerTony Snoey. “Fescue grows knee-high andtransitions throughout the summer fromreddish-purple to golden. [The course]makes you think on every shot with 153bunkers and water of some form on 15 of18 holes.” The layout plays from 5,400 to7,300 yards and retains a natural Scottish-links look, but there are trees in thesurrounding wetlands and native areas.Greens can be a massive 10,000 squarefeet. “It’s a big valley, so big, so massive youstand there and feel so small but one withnature. Big, wide fairways and big greensfit. Small course features would look out ofplace.”

Snoey says guests playing the course forthe first time have extended their stay atHuntsman Springs in order to play it again, telling him, “That was the most fun I’veever had on a golf course.”

While a mountain-golf season can bedictated by weather, daily play here canextend past 9 p.m. Even with its “18signature holes” design, there are somedon’t-miss experiences. “No.1 is everything

the course offers with water, bunkers andvistas, with an opening tee shot peopleremember,” says Snoey. “No. 15’s green is80 yards long from front to back, and No.18 is a drivable Par 4 that can upset yourbets with your buddies.” Snoey credits

superintendent Guy Johnson with courseconditioning that is “second-to-none.”

“Huntsman Springs is a great place notonly to come and visit but to makehome,” David says. Homes currentlyrepresent a second or third residence formost members, fulfilling the vision of acherished, extended mountain-getawayexperience. Home sites up to three-quarters of an acre start at $295,000, and23 homes have been built with acomfortable, upscale-rustic look — andsome are still available to buy. Designed byaward-winning architect Larry Berlin, houses range from 2,450 to 5,300 squarefeet and offer assorted gorgeous views ofthe golf course, water and mountains.Built to the highest standards, the homesfeature hardwood f loors and granitecounters, heated-tile bathrooms andhighest-quality kitchen appliances.

Members aren’t subjected to added fees.“It’s the club of the future,” says Snoey. “Golflessons are complimentary and unlimited. We don’t charge cart, locker or storage fees, and members have the ability to leave(without penalty) at any time. Adultchildren of members can stay connected tothe club through our Legacy Membership. We want to keep generations together.”

The Huntsmans have reached out to bea part of Driggs, providing the county with anew courthouse on the Huntsman Springsproperty, plus eight parks throughout thetown. The 1,350-acre resort remains fence-less, an easy five-minute walk to downtown.

“We’re not the normal developer...notdevelopers at all,” says David. “It’s notsomething we normally do. But we fell inlove with the community and the valley.Jon, Sr., was born in Blackfoot, Idaho. He’s afarm boy through and through. You’ll findhim on the Teton River, fishing for rainbowtrout.”

Huntsman Springs has become theHuntsman family’s home away from home, notes David. “It’s a hands-on family project. All the decisions on Huntsman Springs arefamily: my mother, father and me.”

Yellowstone National Park, the GrandTetons and Jackson Hole resort are alllocated within a short drive, and the private

airport just a quarter-mile down fromHuntsman Springs offers easy resort accessyear-round. Driggs sports a super-deluxegrocery store with fresh sushi, plus acorner drugstore churning out old-fashioned milkshakes and a renownedlime-freeze. Snoey says, “Conversationswith total strangers can happen in stores, the post office and restaurants. Thatdoesn’t happen anywhere else.

David sums up: “This isn’t a projectwe’ve taken on because we need themoney or have a profit expectation. Myfather announced publicly that all incomewould go toward cancer research at theHuntsman Cancer Institute. Our motivesare different — we make sure ourcommitment is to the community andgiving back to mankind, making society abetter place.”

Barney Adams graduated Clarkson University in 1962with a management degree. “The goal,” Adams says, “wasengineering, but I quickly learned that my academicpreparation was inadequate and I had neither the skills

nor the desire to fight my way through engineering school.”Ironically, Adams then worked at Corning Glass for eight years

in a variety of engineering positions, also taking advanced coursework in statistical analysis at the University of Michigan andmanagement at Stanford. His primary experience at Corning wasworking as a field engineer stationed in manufacturing facilities.

“When you’re a field engineer the issue is performance and you areright there. Working on the driving range custom fitting golfers isthe same environment; performance is the issue,” Adams says.

Adams left Corning in 1970 and ended up in California as anindependent sales representative. “It was the beginning of myentrepreneurial life, I wanted to be on my own,” he recalls.

From there he was recruited into a small manufacturingcompany with serious management issues, which launched a newcareer phase: moving into small companies with problems to fix.Ultimately, he ended up in the Silicon Valley specializing in thesemiconductor industry. Then in 1983 he was recruited toAbilene, Texas, to help an old friend, Dave Pelz, with his strugglinggolf equipment company.

“Unequivocally, I failed,” Adams says. “We moved the companyforward but the downward cycle of the oil industry destroyed ourfinancing.” The company was sold at auction by its bank andAdams purchased the assets in1986.

“One thing my full-time experience in golf taught me was that Iloved being in the business,” he says. “I’d always played, dating backto caddying around 1950, but as hard as I worked at Pelz and aspoor as the results were, I knew I had a passion for the golfbusiness.”

In 1986 Adams went out on his own. For eleven years helabored in obscurity. He collected six patents on golf products, making fine equipment with no sales. He wrote articles for golfmagazines, gave seminars and somehow kept the company alive.

Everything changed in 1996 when he invented the Tight Liesfairway wood. Working as a custom fitter, he responded to hiscustomers who repeatedly asked for a club they could play from“long iron” distance, 180-220 yards to the green. Adams knew thetechnical secret was to lower the center of gravity. He did this bydesigning the traditional head shape upside down, which not onlylowered the center of gravity but increased the hitting surface.

As uneventful as the first eleven years were, the period from1996 to 1999 more than evened the cycle. Sales were $1million in1995, $85 million in 1998 and included two placements on theInc. 500 Fastest Growing Small Companies, the Industry WeekTop 25 Award for Growing Manufacturing Companies, severalgolf industry awards and, in July 1998, the largest IPO in thehistory of the golf industry.

Where is the company today? “Let’s just say that my early yearsprepared me for reality,” Adams says. “Shortly after our offering, wereleased a quarter with record sales, earnings exceeding allestimates. Our stock dropped by more than half as the golfindustry was reported as being in a down cycle. Today, thecompany is building momentum through its emphasis on R&Dand continues to introduce innovative products including the Ideairons, a line of hybrid irons. We will continue to strive for innovativeequipment that makes the game more fun for today’s golfer. Webelieve this focus will help us grow our great company andimprove shareholder value.”

Carved out of the striking desert terrain in the canyons ofMesquite, Nev., Wolf Creek Golf Club stands out for itsspectacular setting. The par-72, 18-hole golf courseopened in 2000, and its lush fairways and stunning

layout have already earned it high rankings, including No. 8 bestquality public course in the U.S. and No. 21 America’s GreatestPublic Golf Courses. It’s not just the awe-inspiring natural settingthat attracts golfers; it’s also the world-class customer service.

“We really cater to the customers. It’s about how we can makeyour day of golf great,” says Cory Clemetson, co-owner of WolfCreek Golf Club. “We’re focused on creating Nevada’s ultimate golfexperience.”

Indeed, Clemetson has done a fine job of creating just that. WolfCreek was the only golf course from the State of Nevada to befeatured in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 game, and continues tobe featured in the PGA Tour 11 game.

“We’re thrilled and honored to have our course featured inTiger Woods PGA Tour 09,” said Clemetson at the time. “We’reabsolutely delighted to be selected as the only course from theState of Nevada in the game, since there are so many top-tiercourses here. This clearly positions Wolf Creek as the top golfcourse in the State of Nevada.”

In the EA Sports PGA Tour game, players can experience whatit’s like to tee off on some of the course’s signature holes, such as No.2, perched 11 stories above the fairway with stunning views. Thegame has enabled golfers from all over the world to experience thevirtual version of Wolf Creek, and many then f ly into Las Vegas toexperience the real thing.

“The game has been great exposure for us, but it’s even better tobe able to experience the course firsthand,” says Wolf CreekGeneral Manager, Joel Villanos.

Located just 77 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, Mesquite is easyto get to, and there’s every reason to stay. Wolf Creek has partneredwith nearby Eureka Casino Resort to offer a package that includesall-you-can-play golf for two days along with two nights at thecasino/hotel. The course also has specials and “hot times” on itswebsite, golfwolfcreek.com/hottimes, for last-minute deals. Aspecial for readers of Colorado Golf Magazine and Desert GolfMagazine is an extra $10 savings off the hot-times deal by enteringcode “CO10.”

Greens fees range from $55 to $195 depending on the season, and the course has new Callaway Octane woods and Razr X ironsavailable to rent for $55. Villanos notes that the Mesquite golfdestination is an exceptional value, with savings of up to 40 percentcompared to other resort destinations in the country.

Clemetson and his brother, Chad, purchased the public golfcourse in 2003 and they pride themselves on a management

overhaul that has completely set the course apart as one thatprovides unparalleled service.

“Many of our customers regularly golf at high-end golf clubs, and so we wanted to make sure we provide a first-class experience,”says Clemetson, who notes his staff is focused on exceedingexpectations and truly catering to every need.

In addition to new superior service standards, Villanos adds thatthey are refurbishing many of the bunkers and have bettermaintained the beautiful greens. “The bunkers are now an Augustawhite sand, a beautiful contrast to the desert landscaping,” he says.“We continue to maintain the course to the highest possible quality.”

There is water play on more than half of the holes, withmanmade Wolf Creek winding through much of the course.Clemetson’s favorite signature hole is No. 14, for the “sheer beautyof the spectacular views.”

Custom club fitting has long been a vital step for golfers ofall levels who want to improve. However, ball fitting isjust as vital for golfers who want to maximize distanceand accuracy while enjoying consistent results on and

around the greens.In the hyper-competitive golf-ball market, it’s tough to find a

company that’s taking ball fitting more seriously than Bridgestone. In addition to its online ball-fitting module, the Georgia-basedcompany offers online chat with a Bridgestone technician, plus theBridgestone Challenge, a series of ‘live’ events around the countryat which golfers can compare their current ball to thecorresponding Bridgestone model. The fittings take place usingBridgestone’s Science Eye Launch Monitor. As of early 2011,Bridgestone was closing in on 100,000 golf-ball fittings through itsBridgestone Challenge.

How the Bridgestone Challenge WorksThe company believes the Bridgestone Challenge is one of the

many reasons it experienced an increase of more than 50 percentin on- and off-course golf-ball dollar share. Currently, one in everyten golf balls sold in the United States is a Bridgestone.

“Ball fitting has been the single largest factor in our growth as ithas opened many doors for us where we were previously shut out,”says Dan Murphy, Bridgestone Golf vice president of marketing.

In 2011, Bridgestone plans to have 25 teams of ball-fittingtechnicians touring the country helping golfers get the most fromtheir game. It’s easy to see why golfers like the program.

Using a driver, golfers hit a series of shots with their current golfball.

A Bridgestone technician, using data from ball-launchmonitors, confirms if a Challenge participant is...playing the bestball and recommends a Bridgestone ball that can help him or herimprove.

The golfer tries the recommended ball. After the fitting, Bridgestone technicians provide data

comparing launch angle, spin rates and distance.

The Top Earner on the PGA Tour in 2010 Played BridgestoneOther golf ball companies may have a longer list of touring

professionals under contract, but Bridgestone’s list of pros isextremely impressive, headlined by Matt Kuchar, who won theVardon Trophy in 2010 as the top money winner on the PGA Tour.Fred Couples, Brandt Snedeker, Lee Trevino, Nick Price and thealways-smiling and effervescent Shigeki Maruyama, are part of

“Team Bridgestone.” A recent addition is Ryder Cup captain and20-time PGA Tour winner, Davis Love III.

Two factors convinced Love to consider Bridgestone. The firstwas his long-time friendship with Freddy Couples who has beencompeting successfully with Bridgestone balls for several years. The second was the ball fitting.

“I have been playing golf a long time,” Love stated, “yet, evenafter all these years, I found the Bridgestone ball-fitting process tobe tremendously revealing for me. I am confident that the newB330-S matches my swing properties as I picked up more distanceoff the tee just by switching to it.”

A Strong Selection—Balls and ColorsBridgestone golf offers three types of ball: for the serious player,

the value-oriented player and for recreational golfers. The company uniquely markets four professional-caliber golf

balls as part of its B330 family. The TOUR B330 and TOUR B330-S are for golfers with swing speeds above 105 m.p.h. The “S” modeloffers slightly higher spin. The TOUR B330-RX and TOUR B330-RXS provide professional ball construction for more typical swingspeeds under 105 m.p.h. The TOUR B330-RXS offers additional

spin and better workability. The B330 family is designed withseamless cover construction for predictable f light. The TOURB330 and TOUR B330-S are comparable to the Titleist Pro V1 andPro V1x respectively, but Bridgestone is currently the onlycompany offering professional-caliber balls for golfers with“normal” slower swing speeds.

Bridgestone has experienced significant success with its “e”series, comprised of the e5, e6 and e7. This family of golf balls meldssignificant technology (including seamless covers) with mid-rangepricing. The e5 helps golfers who need additional height. The e6helps remove distance-draining sidespin for a straighter ball f lightand the e7 has a slightly lower trajectory for golfers who feel theyhit the ball too high. For the recreational golfer looking foradditional distance, Bridgestone’s new xFIXx provides the sameseamless cover technology as the top Bridgestone balls plus a softfeel.

Golfers looking for some additional color in their life shouldseriously consider the Bridgestone e6 and the Bridgestone B330-RX, which come in white, optic yellow and optic orange.

With a strong lineup of golf balls, some of the top players in thegame on their roster and the ball-fitting train rolling through theland, it looks like more golfers are going to use Bridgestone andenjoy lower scores.

Ian Poulter radiates enthusiasm —about sport, fashion and his charities. He is passionate on and off the course. The first PGA Tour win for the native

of Britain was the 2010 Accenture MatchPlay Championship, and it was aspectacular win in just 114 holes (TigerWoods holds the record at 112 holes).Currently ranked 11th in the world,

Poulter’s 2011 focus will be winning amajor, ideally the Masters where he was inearly contention last year.

“I will really prepare for the majorsproperly, get fit, my game ready and befresh,” Poulter says.

But what will he be wearing?Remember his 2004 Masters debut wherehe wowed the crowds with his pink pants?“I love pink,” Poulter enthuses. “Always myfavorite color, so versatile, so many shades.”

The 35-year-old plans to take twoweeks off before defending his AccentureMatch Play title. “I want to keep movingforward into the world’s top five this year, atleast,” he says. “Tucson is a good course forme, for my game.”

Kicking off 2011, “Pouls” invited all hisfans to choose his outfit for his Match Playdefense, via Twitter (IanJamesPoulter). With over one million fans the tweets areimpressive, as are his designs.

“I’ve always loved clothes, nice clothesand fashion,” he says. “Four-and-a-half years

ago, I started my dream, designing my ownclothes and establishing the brand IJP. I wasin New Orleans, sketching bits onletterheads and coasters until I finally got itright. I’m not a full designer, I did do a designcourse in school.”

Poulter quit school early at age 15 as heneeded money, but he clearly has naturaltalent.

“Tartans are huge,” he says. “We burstonto the scene with them, they are bold. They reinforce my ‘Lead with the Legs’motto. We do three different coloredtartans and change the colors twice a yearfor each collection. My girls with the designteam choose the color palette, and then webuild. Great fun. I love the challenge ofbusiness.”

Not only will he be mounting a toughdefense of his title in Tucson, Poulter willalso be pursuing his passions, “leading withthe legs” and making a fashion statement, colorful and exciting as always._______________________________

According to the Golf Research Group, which tracks theindustry, golf-course homes are three times as valuableas the average U.S. home. Golf-course living definitelyhas its advantages. A study by the Longitudes Group

also found that golf properties hold their value more than otherreal estate, even in the same zip code.

“Lot values on golf courses have a 40-percent premium overother lots in the neighborhood,” said Sara Killeen of the LongitudesGroup. “Even when a market is really getting hammered, peoplewill find a golf-course home more appealing than a non-golf home.A golf home is going to out-perform a non-golf home almost everytime.”

One interesting fact about golf-course living is that 40 percentof the owners in homes that back to a course do not even play golf.

Many obvious factors contribute to the higher numbers forgolf-course properties, including a beautifully manicured park-likesetting out your back door that you do not have to maintain. Thereis also the fact that you do not have neighbors behind you so youget considerably more privacy and you have live entertainmentfrom dawn to dusk. In addition, many of the homes not only havegolf-course views but mountain and/or lake views, which can alsobring a higher asking price. And because of the architectural designof most courses, the surrounding neighborhoods are built uparound fairways and greens for their irrigation purposes, whichcreates the very popular walkout basement in the home design, another valuable feature.

About a mile west of historic Trinidad in southern Colorado sitsCougar Canyon, a par-72, 7,669-yard Nicklaus course that windsits way through valleys, mesas and arroyos. Along the way itprovides breathtaking views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains,Spanish Peaks and Fisher’s Peak.

A unique feature of the golf course is black sand in the bunkers,a tribute to Trinidad’s rich mining heritage. Golfers will also takenote of the 16th hole with its captivating island green that willgenerate excitement for every level of player.

At a 6,000-foot elevation, along with Colorado’s 300-plus daysof sunshine and Trinidad’s mild and humidity-free climate, CougarCanyon could be one of the best-kept secrets in the state. Backingto the golf course is an additional 3,000 acres of privateconservation land, unspoiled nature and wide-open spaces that

create a spectacular “old west” feel. This area is a recreation paradise. Whether you love horseback

riding, hiking, sightseeing, mountain climbing or skiing you canfind it here. Nearby Trinidad Lake is a favorite spot for boating, fishing and water sports. And downtown Trinidad, sometimescalled the “Victorian Jewel of Southern Colorado,“ has grown intoa cultural and arts hub. Walking down Main Street visitors findpainters, sculptors, musicians and other artists who havediscovered a high quality of life in a spectacular yet affordablesetting.

Cougar Canyon is slated to have a myriad of amenities, everything one would expect in a resort community fromexcellent dining to a wonderful spa. There’s a communityrecreation center that features fitness facilities, swimming pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, volleyball courts and sprawling lawns forcroquet and casual picnics. Close to eight miles of walking trails andpaved recreational paths will wind through the community, providing exercise stations and stops along the way for rest andref lection. Semi-custom homes start in the high $200s and golf-course home sites start in the low $100s.

Cougar Canyon is a very affordable option for those looking fora golf-course community. It incorporates the considerable history, charm and character of Trinidad along with the amenities andlifestyle of a resort community—but without the price tagnormally associated with a resort of this caliber.cougarcanyonliving.com

Fuzzy Zoeller famously waved a white towel of surrender inthe 1984 U.S. Open when Greg Norman holed out a shoton No. 17. The two tied and Zoeller won the tournamentafter an 18-hole playoff the next day. Norman pulled out

his white towel of surrender on the 18th green to return thegesture. Zoeller has often been noted for his antics on and off thecourse, but his latest venture is serious business.

Professional golfers often turn to other ventures in the twilightof their careers. A two-time major winner, Zoeller’s venture is a bitdifferent. He has launched a vodka label as smooth as his swing.

Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka is anything but a joke. It wasrated a 94 by the Beverage Tasting Institute, which earned it theInstitute’s “exceptional” ranking. Jerald O’Kennard, director of theBeverage Testing Institute, says of Zoeller’s vodka, “94 is anextremely good score and unusually high. Fuzzy’s Ultra PremiumVodka is quite exceptional, and our review places it in the upper

echelons of vodkas worldwide in terms of quality, f lavor andsmoothness.”

That praise comes as no surprise to Zoeller, who spent thebetter part of four years searching and testing for the vodkacharacteristics he wanted. When he settled on the final recipe, hetook it immediately to those he trusted most: his friends and thestaff at his Covered Bridge Golf Club in Indiana.

Zoeller poured shots of several vodkas from the top shelf at theCovered Bridge bar. He secretly included his new brew in a blindtaste test. He asked the staff to give him their choice of best in class.

“Everyone chose Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka over the otherbrands,” Zoeller says. “I knew I liked it, but that confirmedeverything when they choose it as well. I knew we had a winner.”

Soon afterward, Zoeller repeated the test with several closefriends. The results overwhelmingly confirmed that Fuzzy’s

Premium Vodka was a winner. That was July 2009. Today thevodka is available in 25 states. Colorado, New Mexico and Arizonaare distribution areas and Nevada will soon have distributors.Zoeller’s team is sponsoring several Champions Tour events in2011, which will put the brand in the forefront of premium liquors.

The all-American made vodka is 99 percent grain based. Whilemost vodka is filtered three to five times, Fuzzy’s Ultra PremiumVodka is slowly filtered ten times through charcoal and crushedvolcanic rock. It is handcrafted and batch distilled using pureCascade Mountain spring water. A portion of each batch is aged fortwo months in fresh oak barrels and then reintroduced to the finalproduct.

The result is an exceptionally clean spirit. The amount offiltering gives purity with subtle hints of f lavor; citrus and creamrun lightly throughout. There is a long, whipped cream andmineral fade but it’s crisp — perfect for a straight or dirty martini.

Like Zoeller himself, Fuzzy’s Premium Vodka is a strongpersonality in the arena of its peers. Zoeller’s competitive naturedoesn’t allow him to produce anything but a product of excellence, and his vodka is an instant leader in the field. It can go head-to-headwith any of the “name” brands on the market. Fuzzy’s Premium issneaky good.

For those who like mixers, Zoeller’s vodka is ideal. Because of itsquiet strength, the mix isn’t overpowered by an aftertaste. Smoothis the power of Fuzzy’s. Finish a round with it and you’ll knowyou’ve spent the 19th hole with a great of the game. This vodka willhave the competition waving the white f lag of surrender beforelong.

The power to choose is a wonderful thing. Choosing awinding road on a fresh spring day behind the wheel ofthe latest Jaguar XK would be the perfect choice for2011.

Jaguar needs little in the way of introduction. Celebrity status iswell established and the wow factor is ever-present on any modelemerging from the Jaguar factory. For brands with a long history ofexcellence, dropping jaws may get more difficult over time. Yetafter 75 years in auto making, Jaguar still has the teeth to makemodels that raise your blood pressure and bring back the childlikejoy in driving.

The Jaguar XK has options that give every driver something todrool over. Do you want coupe or convertible, 385 horsepower or500? The list is long and heart pounding.

The XK coupe comes standard with a 5-liter, 385 horsepowerengine. A 0-to-60 time of five seconds speaks to the lightweightframe and expertly crafted aerodynamics. Choose the engineupgrade — the XKR package — and you get 510 horsepower. TheXKR tuning gives the engine a top speed of nearly 175 miles perhour, making it the fastest Jaguar ever made.

The six-speed transmission is silks and gears. Jaguar’strademarked Sequential Shift gives drivers Drive, Sport Automaticor Manual gearshift modes. Shift paddles mounted behind thesteering wheel control gear changes manually if you want a littlemore control. Whizzing through the gears is easy on drivers andpassengers with Jag’s suspension design.

“Adaptive Dynamics” is the company’s name for keeping theride from sending you to a chiropractor. More than 500 times persecond, the computer tests road conditions, speed andenvironment to electronically adjust comfort. Dampers in thesuspension make the ride feel more like clouds than asphalt.Tighten or soften the suspension to your taste with the push of abutton. Also, know you have the safety of stability control working

through the onboard sensors andcomputers.

The suave XK design launches thefront end forward in the fashion that madeJaguar the poster car for elegance. The XKbodylines are bold yet compact. Dual air-intake vents in the hood look powerful, andthe oval-shaped grill is classic Jaguar. Todescribe the XK as stunning is cliché in theextreme. The short deck that finishes thevehicle acts as punctuation on the look, ensuring that no right-minded critic wouldput his or her reputation on the line bydisparaging the appearance of the XK; thatwould be utter foolishness. Suffice it to saythat the circles you drive in with an XK areat the top of the world-class automotiveindustry, and the Jaguar XK takes youthere with confidence and a brand that has

withstood the onslaught of recessions andbuyouts and come out the other sideunscathed.

In a celebration of Jaguar’s 75thanniversary, the XKR package is a limitededition of the XK being released with only175 models in production. The XKRcarries the 510 horsepower and is fittedwith 20-inch alloy wheels, exquisite trimand custom numbering on the kick plate.

The interior is everything a discerningbuyer would want in a luxury sports car.“Plush” understates the supple leatherseats and headliner. Simple is successful inthe XK’s interface; dash display, navigationand climate control are easy and intuitiveto operate. Jaguar doesn’t overdo thefeatures but makes the XK electronicsample to give drivers what they need —

and then a bit more. Naturally, the XK lineis equipped with an iPod connector andadvanced blue-tooth features.

The Bowers and Wilkins sound systemruns on a 525-watt amplifier. Those are thespecs. The sound is pure emotion. Everydelicate note has its place in these speakers, and the cabin seems built to give thesystem a place of emphasis. Everythingabout the entertainment features tells youthat the designers thought first of driversand then built to suit their needs.

Driving through mountains or acrossthe f latlands, the Jaguar XK is equipped forwhatever the road can throw at you.Whether you are downtown for a nightout or touring the country looking foradventure, it’s your power to choose, andthat put you behind the wheel of an XK.You chose wisely.

When did golf shoes become fashion’s hottest topicon the course? When designers such as SestoMeucci, Walter Genuin and Unutzer startedoffering gorgeous creations that shatter the

standard image of boring lace-up footwear. Golf shoes have gonefrom functional to fashionable and everyone is taking note.

One of the earliest references to spiked golf shoes appears in an1857 issue of The Golfer’s Manual. Due to the constant wetconditions in Scotland, golf’s birthplace, shoes “roughed withsmall nails or sprigs” were worn to combat the slippery ground. In1891 screw-in spikes made an appearance. They were morecomfortable than hobnail shoes and boots, but the spikes drewcriticism from groundskeepers for damaging the greens.

Spalding introduced the timeless “saddle oxford” in 1906.Originally designed for racket sports but failing to catch on, itbecame the standard in golf shoes. The 1980s brought more of anathletic shoe, f lexible and “wearer friendly” with a focus onsupport and comfort. Finally in the 1990s, nonmetal cleats wereintroduced, changing golf shoes forever.

Today, women’s golf shoes are known in the jet set crowd as“airport shoes,” stylish and hard to distinguish from street shoes. The hot colors are currently black, white and red, with a littleleopard for animal-print lovers. With styles that shine, sparkle, slipon, lace up, zip or buckle, the key to these shoes is the one-piecerubber sole with traction that works on and off the course.

A leader in fine women and men’s shoes, Sesto Meucci ofFlorence is known worldwide for quality, stylish foot apparelfeaturing a bold color palette. The line offers chic footwear in gold, silver, leopard print and patent. Some styles have pink soles andmany styles are available in white. The popular black and whiteGabian golf shoe is priced at $249.95, as is the fashionable Silver

Gasha. You might never know these are golf shoes except, perhaps, for the black sole on many styles.

For the trendy and ultra chic, Walter Genuin has one of themost sought after golf shoes in today’s market, his Rock Starcollection. The Rock Star features black calfskin leather with goldunderlay and trim, adjustable zip front, elastic gussets at the topfor a perfect fit, gold-tone interior leather lining and the shoes arelightweight and f lexible. Other colors include red and gold andwhite and gold, and all feature Genuin’s new rotor-integrated golfand street-use outsole. Priced at $299, these shoes are in such highdemand for the course and beyond that retailers started prebooking orders last November.

When money is truly no object, call Unutzer. Yes folks, the Mr. T look is gone. But “ice” has beenreplaced with bling, typically one large “rope”(necklace) with a huge insignia covered in diamondswill suffice. Throw in some earrings, a bracelet, top grill

and that man has style. What’s a grill you ask? A cover that fits over the top or

bottom row of teeth in silver, gold or diamonds and, yes, it’sconsidered jewelry.

If you think these looks might not fit the country clubcrowd, think again. The look is there but in a subtly elegant way.

From earrings to bracelets, necklaces to piercings, men arewearing jewelry more than ever. Just forget the girly associations;

men like their hardware to have a manly image, so words like“bracelet” and “necklace” are out.

As with women’s jewelry, the trends for men are constantlychanging and 2011 is no exception. This season grey is the new

black, says Jef Timms, owner of Hephaestus (hephaestusps.com)in Palm Springs, Calif. “Grey metal titanium is poised for a hugepush this coming year because of its durability and lightweightnature, replacing the heavier and more corrosive metals such assteel and iron.”

Discovered in the 1790s and named after Titan in Greekmythology, titanium has remained affordable while precious

metals prices are at historic highs, allowing a wide range of people towear the latest accessories made with it.

“Gone is the age where men occasionally wear jewelry,” explainsTimms. “Today’s men are experiencing a wonderful artistic bracelet, pendant or ring, and enjoying it daily. Cuff links are also back, and have

become the perfect complement for today’s modern men’s watchcollectors.”

The hottest look for rings is the tension-style design thatshowcases a diamond f loating between the two ends of a titanium

circle that has been cut. Approximately 4,000 pounds of pressureholds the diamond in place, and depending on the size of thediamond, prices may start low and escalate to thousands.

As fashionable as the grey metals are, designers are alsousing glass, crystals, Lucite, pearls, leather and anodized stainlesssteel to create a very sophisticated look. Another super hot

look (but less available) is jewelry featuring rough-cut and off-color diamonds, as well as Chocolate Gold from Italy. Usedextensively in the collections of Italian jewelry designers de

Grisogono, Licia Mattioli and Gruosi, Chocolate Gold isbeautiful with any skin tone and the true jewelry lover with

discerning taste is guaranteed to fall in love with it. The concept of green or eco-friendly has finally made

its way into jewelry design. More and more designers, includingMari & Lani Davis, Alex and Ani and Tamra Gentry to name a few,

are concerned with “recycle and reuse” philosophies in theirdesigns, with the result that interesting and exciting “green” jewelry

is popping up everywhere.Speaking of green, or rather greens, men’s jewelry is now offered

for sale in elite and trendy golf shops around the world, thanks to the factthat men of varying ages are acquiring pieces and wearing them on and off

some of the most exclusive golf courses. Whether hundreds or thousandsof dollars, men’s hardware is just as important as a great set of golf clubs —

just don’t call it jewelry.
