Dr. Don Ester Colorado Elementary All-State Presto Choir Conductor
Don Ester, professor and area coordinator of music education, joined the Ball State University School of Music faculty in the fall of 1992. A 1980 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, he holds a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University, where he studied choral conducting with Lloyd Pfautsch, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Ester has taught in the public schools as well as at the university level, and has served as a full-time church musician. He was previously the Director of Choral Activities in the Bloomington, Illinois, Public Schools; Instructor of Music Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Director of Music Ministries at the Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, Illinois.
Dr. Ester is a frequent guest conductor and clinician for choirs of all ages. He has conducted All-State Children’s Choirs in Indiana and South Dakota. Since 1990, he has presented over 125
clinics throughout the nation and served as guest conductor for over 75 festival choirs. He founded and directed the White River Youth Choir from 1994 to 2008, leading them on performing tours in the US, Brazil, and Japan.
His present responsibilities at Ball State include serving as chair of the music education area and teaching undergraduate and graduate music education courses. He received the 1998 Ball State University Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2006 Indiana Outstanding University Music Educator of the Year Award. He has served on the board of the Indiana Choral Directors Association and the Indiana Music Educators Association. He is a Past National Chair of the Society for Music Teacher Education.
Candace S. Hahn/Accompanist
Ms. Hahn earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from the University of Iowa, where she majored in flute and piano. Ms. Hahn dedicated 24 years as a music educator for the Harrison School District. Ms. Hahn was accompanist for the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale in 2001-2003. Her last two years have been teaching for District 11 at Holmes Middle School as Choir and Drama Director.

for her exceptional musicianship, distinguished work and extraordinary gift for inspiring others. As a Master of Music (Kodaly), she has served as a clinician, lecturer, adjudicator and guest conductor across Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, Argentina, Brazil and the Canary Islands.
In 1995, Ms. Quilichini founded the Calgary Girls Choir. Ms. Quilichini conducted the University of Calgary Women's Choir for over ten years and continues to lead an active music studio. A notable indication of Ms. Quilichini's stature in the choral community is her successful choral series published by Alliance Music Publishing, Houston, Texas.
In 2003, Ms. Quilichini made her debut as maestro at Carnegie Hall directing the choral concert, “A Tribute to Peace and Freedom.”
Ms. Quilichini is on the faculty of the International Summer Academy of Choral Conducting and Music Pedagogy in Las Palmas, Canary Islands and is Artistic Director of the Nebraska Wesleyan University and the Wichita State University summer choral programs. She continues to serve at the New England Conservatory in Boston as conductor of their youth and children's choral summer program.
Ms. Quilichini has conducted numerous provincial and state honor choirs, ACDA regional honor choirs, the Asian Pacific Activities Conference in Osaka, Japan, and has conducted the National Honor Choir for the Organization of American Kodaly Educators. Ms. Quilichini conducted a citywide youth choir at the Dalai Lama's appearance in Calgary.
Global Television recently recognized Ms. Quilichini, as a Woman of Vision. This award celebrates women whose passion, talent and commitment is reflected in their achievements. A perfect fit for Ms. Quilichini's contributions.
Zina Sonkina/Accompanist Zina Sonkina was born in Russia and graduated from the Music College and Pedagogical University. She majored in Theory of Music and Composition and Education. In 1995, she moved to Denver and worked as a concert pianist; playing piano duets with the famous pianist Yuri Sokolovski. In 1998, Zina became the piano accompanist and teacher for the Colorado Ballet Company. Zina is a music teacher in Aurora Public Schools.
