OPENING NIGHT The Colorado Avalanche opens their 20th Anniversary Season tonight against the Minnesota Wild at Pepsi Center.  This evening'scontest is being televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network, with Chris Cuthbert, Pierre McGuire and Brian Boucher on the call.The Avalanche will begin the season with three straight home games, facing Minnesota tonight, Dallas on Saturday and Boston on Oct.14.  This three-game homestand matches the franchise’s longest-ever to begin a season, as the 1998-99 squad also opened with threestraight at home.  Tonight marks the second consecutive year that Colorado will face Minnesota in the season opener.  The lastopponent to meet the Avalanche in back-to-back openers was the Dallas Stars in 2006-07 and 2007-08. 20TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON The Colorado Avalanche will celebrate their 20th Anniversary Season in 2015-16.  Here is the list of special events that will take placethroughout the campaign, headlined by the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series outdoor game on Feb. 27 at Coors Field. Minnesota has posted a winning mark of 8-4-2 all-time in season openers (including a tie in 2001-02), tied with Colorado for thehighest points percentage in season openers (0.643). The Wild also ranks T-2nd in the NHL for longest active point streak in seasonopeners, going 3-0-1 to start the last four seasons. Thursday marks just the fifth time in team history the Wild will open the season asthe road team, the first since 2009-10. Minnesota is 0-3-1 in season openers as the road team, going 8-1-1 all-time when opening theseason as the home team (including a loss vs. Carolina to start the 2010-11 season in Helsinki, Finland). Mike Yeo was named the Minnesota Wild’s third Head Coach on June 17, 2011. He has led the Wild to the Stanley Cup Playoffs three straightseasons after a five-year absence. The Wild's 100 points in 2014-15 was the second-highest total in franchise history. The Wild are 150-110-34(.568) in his four seasons as Head Coach and 11-17 in the playoffs.
