Welcome to the 2021 school year! I hope you had
a relaxing and refreshing break as we begin
another busy school year. Hopefully it will be a little
calmer than all we dealt with last year. After 2 weeks, I
am pleased to report a really positive start. Classes
are really settled and our new Reception students
have fitted in so well. Across the whole school we only
have 3 or 4 students still a little anxious at times.
NEWSLETTERS Just a reminder that newsletters are distributed 3 times a term in weeks 3, 6 and 9, usually on a Thursday. The newsletter can be accessed from the

LIBRARY After a short week we are finally up and running with classes visiting each week. It is so rewarding to see their happy smiling faces again and to witness the enthusiasm of borrowing books. Our theme for this year is space to coincide with upcoming events:
Term 2: National Simultaneous Storytime—’Give me some space’ by Philip Bunting
Term 3: Book Week—New Worlds, Old Worlds, Other Worlds
We have a fantastic range of books on space, solar systems and space travel etc. and I will build on this genre throughout the year. A display of our solar system is on show in the Library covering interesting facts about the planets and their moons.
The PRC is now under way and students have 3 terms to register 12 books on their forms. A very easy target considering the number of books they borrow and read each week. Our school has an incredible focus on reading and this shows with the students’ enthusiasm to complete this challenge. We also encourage the students to broaden their reading range for this challenge.
Issue 1 Loop orders are due Friday 12 February. I have amended the room numbers for the Reception classes on the Scholastic website. Suzanne Fisher - Library Manager

MATERIAL & SERVICES 2021 The 2021 Materials and Services invoices for all students were mailed late January to addresses in our school database. These invoices are due in full on 7th March 2021, unless you have arranged for a direct debit agreement and are making regular payments. If you wish to have regular payments taken out via direct debit, please contact the school.
EXCURSION PRE-PAYMENT Excursion pre-payment invoices for 2021 went home via your child on the first week of school. These are due 8th March 2021, unless on a direct debit agreement. There were a lot of outstanding amounts from 2020 due to COVID-19 cancellations, so credits were applied for all amounts over $5.00 to your child’s account. This credit was sent home with the Material and Services invoice. If you did not get a credit it was because the excursion pre-payment being used in full in 2020.
The school office is open from 8.30am - 10:00am each school day to receipt payments. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, Visa or MasterCard in person, online or over the phone.
Online payment with Credit card Go to www.clgps.sa.edu.au and select ‘Parent Information’ and then ‘Fees and Payments’. Click on the School BPOINT link which will take you to the payments page.
School Card Applications for School Card (financial assistance) need to be completed every year, for every eligible child. If you have not yet applied for School Card and think you are eligible, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. Applications for all forms are now online at: https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/education-and-learning/financial-help-scholarships-and-grants/school-card-scheme Stef Marston Business Manager [email protected]
Thank you to Colonel Light Gardens Primary School for your kind donation to Foodbank South Australia. Your donation of 360kg equates to 720 meals for those in need.
Last year, Foodbank were supporting more than 126,000 South Australians every month. This has increased exponentially. While supporting the 126,000 South Australians, we are providing ongoing food relief support to those in the regions impacted by the bush fires and the referrals to our food hubs have increased as a result of the impacts of COVID-19. We appreciate your donation enormously.
More than food, your donation shows that our community cares about them.
To raise money for our Bike shed upgrade, these are the proposed events for the year so far. Stay tuned for more information…
If you’d like to be a part of our wonderful Fundraising committee, please keep an eye out for our next meeting date or send an email to [email protected] You can have as much involvement as you wish. It really is a fun and rewarding way of being part of the school community. You can join any meeting throughout the year, even if you haven’t attended a meeting before. Babies and toddlers are always welcome! Please ensure you have completed the volunteer accreditation and check in at the office.
