LITERACY AND EDUCATION IN COLOMBIALiteracy of adults (+15)

• 81.38% in 1993

• Gap in information from 1993 to 2004

• From 2004-Present, the literacy rate has been at about 92-94%-- In rural areas the literacy rate is only 67%

• The youth literacy rate has been over 90% in both males and females since 1993, and over 95% since 1996

GENDER EQUALITY IN COLOMBIA

• Women are more affected by unemployment, 30% solely responsible for households

• As a result of constant state of conflict, women are more vulnerable to sexual and physical violence

• Colombia scored 0.482 in the gini index in 2011, placing 91st out of 146 countries

• According to the Global Gender Gap report Colombia scores 0.67 on a scale in which 0 is inequality and 1 is equality

which 1 is highly corrupt and 100 non-corrupt

- Between 1988 and 1998 Colombia lost 1% of its annual GDP due to corruption
