GEOGRAPHY Colombia is a unitary republic of America located in the northwestern region of South America. It consists in a social and democratic state of law whose form of government is presidential. It is politically organized into 32 decentralized departments. The capital of the republic is Bogotá.

Colombia is the only country in South America with coastlines on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, with a land area of 1'141 .748 km2 and 928,660 km2 of maritime domains.

It shares borders with Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador maritime borders with Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Located at 4 degrees south latitude 12 degrees north latitude and between 67 ° and 79 ° west longitude, is an equatorial country whose climate is determined by the trade winds, humidity and altitude above sea level: the higher the altitude the temperature is lower.

NATIONAL SYMBOLS

FLAG OF COLOMBIA• Created by the General Francisco de Miranda,

the Colombia flag flew for the first time on March 12, 1806 in the port of La Vela. It was officially adopted on November 26, 1861. It is inspired by the primary colors: yellow, blue and red.

THE ANDEAN CONDOR, large and majestic flight, is considered the national bird. This national bird can fly up to 300 km in a single day. AMAZON REGION

•The region is framed by the Andes mountains to the west and extends eastward to the borders with Brazil and Venezuela, from north to south extending from the Guaviare and Vichada and Putumayo rivers to the Amazon.

The Caribbean Region is composed of a continental plain called Caribbean or Atlantic Coast and the Colombian waters and island territories in the Caribbean sea.Due to the diversity of the climate of the region is very large variety of animal and plant species are found in it . INSULAR REGION
