Paranjoy unfolds layers of disinformation

- Pranati Agarwal

In today's world where in the exchange of adequate data is at

it’s peak, it is vital to know the beast i.e fake news. To address

this pertinent issue, DME Media School hosted the second

lecture of 2019- BG Verghese lecture series on February 06,

in the Nelson Mandela Auditorium.

Mr. Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, a renowned Indian journalist,

political commentator, author and documentary filmmaker

was the keynote speaker of the lecture.

Mr. Thakurta addressed the audience on “Data and its

discontents: Political economy of disinformation”. He

underlined how mobile phones are no more just a medium of

mass communication but have become a medium of

personalised communication. He further highlighted that

internet is not only reaching the lives of those who are using

it but also the lives of those who are not at all aware about it.

While sharing world internet statistics, he said that FAAANG,

the six biggest corporations i.e. Facebook, Apple, Amazon,

Alibaba, Netflix and Google are controlling what we hear,

what we read and what we watch.

Mr. Thakurta pointed out that how media is becoming an

agent of the advertiser. He reminded everyone that in our

country, news and current affair programmes on radio are still

controlled by the government.

At the end of the session, the veteran journalist answered

some of the questions raised by the students and stressed on

the need to be aware and help others to utilise internet

correctly.

Dr. Ambrish Saxena, Dean, DME Media School encouraged

the students for puting up sharp questions during the

interaction. Dr. Susmita Bala, HOD, DME Media School

expressed her gratitude to Mr. Thakurta for delivering a

wonderful lecture on the important issue.

The session was a valuable learning experience. Mr. Thakurta

was greeted with a huge round of applause from the students

and faculty members for his motivating and thought

provoking words.

Anugoonj echoed with Kailash Kher’s numbers

Anugoonj, the annual cultural fes-tival of Guru Gobind Singh In-draprastha University (GGSIPU), is always a much awaited event and the finale is one to watch out for. This year also the star performance by Bollywood singer Kailash Kher on February 09 made the gala event a big ‘HIT’.

The festival was inaugurated at university’s main ground on February 07 and contin-ued with stunning perfor-mances for next three days.

The event rocked with a va-riety of acts such as debates, po-etry recitation and live rock band performances. However, it was the street play that stole the heart of the audience as performers received huge appreciation from the crowd.

The event witnessed terrific show-case of talent from the students.

Engaging activities which earned huge appreciation include street plays, jam sessions, dance, DJ night, classical solo vocal, act-ing, writing and street dance.

Before the final rounds, students appeared for auditions which took place from January 28 to 30 at IDEAL Institute of Management. Students of Delhi Metropolitan Ed-ucation (DME), Noida also partic-ipated in the auditions with much enthusiasm and got selected for

a group song performance (Hin-di), solo singing (Indian) and de-bate (Hindi), which indeed was a matter of pride for the Institute.

The finale of the festival started with the glamorous contest of Mister and Miss Anugoonj, followed by cul-tural programs like a com-petition of rangoli, Nach Baliye dance competition, talent show, DJ Session, clay modeling, classical solo vocal, mono acting, creative writing and street dance.

The entire fest was enrich-ing for the audience and every-one cherished it to their best.

‘Unveiling Divya Malhotra’

Divya Malhotra a budding YouTuber with 9K+ subscribers, is a final year student of DME Media School. She has interviewed many eminent person-

alities in past two years including Ranvijay Singh, Rahul Makin, Gagan Arora, Pandit Birju Maharaj and many more to count in the list. Excerpts from a recent interview.

Q. How it all began? Who motivated you to start a YouTube channel?I started working as a contributor in Aesthetic Indian Magazine as well as for Navbharat Times. Tarun Gill, a famous YouTuber, motivated me to interview peo-ple and put it on YouTube. There was a school friend of mine who helped me in establishing my channel.

Q. What role DME played in your Journey?DME itself has done all these. DME has given me the strength to start my own YouTube channel and it is like a pillar in my life. Interestingly the name of my channel ‘Unveil with Divya Malhotra’ was given by one of my teachers, Sanchita Ma’am.

Q. How it feels when you are recognised by your channel? It gives me immense happiness as recognition of my channel has become my identity. My friends usually call me as ‘Unveil’. So it feels good when your work is being appreciated.

Q. One advice you like to give to your fellowmates and all the aspiring YouTubers?Always listen to your heart and never be afraid to follow your passion.

Q. One person whom you would like to thank in your journey?I would like to thank many and not just one because there are teachers who supported me and also people who demotivated me because of which I strived hard and proved myself. I would definitely thank my par-ents and of course the almighty.

Q. What was your educational background? Tell us when you decided to pursue Journalism? When people are in 5th standard they usually don’t know what they have to do in life but my mother told me that at such young age, I used to tell everyone that “I want to read news in Television”. So, I guess it was decided from then itself that I have to do something

-Kritika Banerjee-Aakash Sinha(Photo Credit)

It is often said that knowledge is of no use if not put to practice. So, to enhance classroom learning of photography on ground, students of the DME Media School went on a photowalk to capture the beauty of 33rd Surajkund International Crafts Fair in Faridabad, Haryana on February 11.

This unique opportunity was perfect for students to test their photography skills. The spot was vibrant, exhilarating and scenic as it showcased the beauty and diversity of the handicrafts from all the cultural corners of India. Students were encouraged to capture the best shots and convert all the beauty of the fair into a photo book of their own. Faculties also accompanied students on this trip

Night view of Surajkund Fair

The fair was filled with vivid art, craft, music, dance, and mixed with colorful ambience, ethnic cuisines, and an immersive cultural ethos. Located at Surajkund reservoir, the fair attracts tourists from all around the world, who come and experience the rich heritage of Indian handicraft.

Each student was seen absorbing the live atmosphere, capturing every moment they found enticing. The fair was beaming with beautiful handicrafts, handmade accessories, costumes and even a food court whichoffered variety of Indian cuisines. The trip was a combination of colors, cultures and joy.It ended with beaming faces posing for a group photograph.
