Your mobile success story starts hereTwo different worlds are brought together when ena-

bling payments via a mobile device. The world of a

Mobile Network Operator (MNO) is very different from

the world of a Service Provider (SP), such as banks.

At Collis, we assist you with getting an understand-

ing of the other parties involved. Together with you,

we determine your role within the NFC ecosystem

and how to achieve and maintain this role.

Collis has extensive experience with building Trusted

Service Manager (TSM) infrastructures, as we have

assisted tier one banks and MNOs worldwide.

Schemes around the world have test procedures in

place but do not cover end-to-end implementation.

Via the Collis Test Centre, we can guarantee full

compliance and technical interoperability for play-

ers within the NFC ecosystem. We provide trust that

your product can be properly provisioned according

to your business requirements.

For a robust and future-proof implementation, you

can take advantage of Collis’ best practises and our

latest knowledge of the developments in the vendor

industry. You can rely on our years of experience in

the area of mobile payments and secure elements.

Mobile proximity transaction technology

Simply tapping a mobile phone to a termi-

nal to pay for your groceries or train fare, or

collecting loyalty points from retailers; it’s

fast, convenient and fun to use!

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a con-

tactless technology which can be used to

make such proximity transactions.

The near future of NFC is in the payment

and transport markets, where security and

interoperability are underlying concerns

for the players within the NFC ecosystem.

These players are Service Providers (SPs)

and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).

The Trusted Service Manager (TSM) is the

leading solution in the mass deployment of

mobile proximity transactions.

The TSM is a neutral intermediary that ena-

bles SPs to securely distribute and manage

contactless services for their customers us-

ing the networks of MNOs. It facilitates con-

tractual arrangements and everyday busi-

ness between SPs and MNOs.

Collis, as your trusted advisor, provides ex-

pertise and knowledge on how to imple-

ment these new technologies in a secure

and trustworthy way – ensuring trust in

technology.

MOBILEFrom definition to deployment

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Mobile Virtual

Network Operators (MVNOs) are key players within

the NFC/TSM infrastructure. Your mobile network is

used by Service Providers (SPs) to offer their mobile

payment services to your mobile phone users and by

also providing access to these phones.

As a key player, you have to enable a secure and

stable network, in order for other key players within

the NFC ecosystem – SPs and TSM operators – to want

to work together with you.

Collis understands the complex challenges faced by

M(V)NOs. We understand your concerns, from sup-

porting your customer, through to the infrastructure

challenges you face with new handsets, USIMs and

continually evolving network infrastructures.

Business model and solution architectureAs an M(V)NO you have the choice to offer your

network via an existing TSM, or to set up a TSM infra-

structure yourself. This can be a TSM in cooperation

with SPs (consortium model), or your own TSM (MNO

centric model).

Collis has extensive knowledge to assist you with de-

termining the best TSM structure for your business

and putting all underlying infrastructure in place.

M(V)NOs can expect a high level of efficiency and ex-

pert knowledge from Collis’ consultants, as we have

sound experience in working together with MNOs to

identify their role within the NFC ecosystem.

In addition to our NFC expertise, we offer you a SIM

strategy, where you can select the best card vendor

for your business. We can also provide you with TSM

workshops, contactless payment knowledge and test

tools, so that you understand all components that are

connected within an NFC ecosystem.

Contactless mobile payments are enabled via the

Trusted Service Manager (TSM).

The TSM is the independent, trusted party that facili-

tates and enables information exchange between SPs

and MNOs. It facilitates the infrastructure that makes

it possible to offer services through a mobile network.

At Collis, we are highly experienced in setting up TSM

infrastructures. Rolled out in four phases, our consul-

tancy services include preparation for decision mak-

ing, creation of the NFC infrastructure, implementa-

tion and roll out. We have defined specific deliverables

for each phase which ensure a successful project.

Together, we determine which TSM model suits your

business best: a consortium between multiple parties

(e.g. between SPs and MNOs), SP centric or MNO cen-

tric.

Each model has its own benefits and through phase

0 we will find out what model best suits your needs.

Phase 1 and 2 will then set out several deliverables to

ensure the roll out phase (phase 3) is ready. The de-

scription on the right hand side of the page provides

further insight into Collis’ delivery model.

TRAVIK: enabling mobile payments

TRAVIK, a Dutch consortium, was initiated by

three MNOs (T-Mobile, Vodafone and KPN) and

three SPs (Rabobank, ABN AMRO and ING).

Their mission is to create an open eco system in

the Netherlands for NFC-enabled mobile phones

to deliver a generic facility for proximity pay-

ments.

Collis was requested to be the exclusive technol-

ogy partner to the TRAVIK consortium to set up a

safe and secure TSM, which links the MNOs with

the SPs and performs technical and commercial

activities on behalf of MNOs and SPs.

The TRAVIK consortium aims to connect all M(V)

NOs and all banks, to facilitate any payment

scheme and many more services than just mobile

payment services in the future.

Collis’ TSM implementation service consists of a

four-phased approach, as shown in the illustra-

tion on the next page.

In the first phase, which we call phase zero, we

create a TSM/NFC strategy through intensive

workshops with key stakeholders involved in the

project. From there, we go forward into phase one, which consists of creating the NFC struc-

ture - definition of architecture, UICC and wal-

lets, procurement process and high level process

design. We continue in phase two by managing

the implementation. In phase three, we man-

age the roll out and provide post implementation

support.

Handset ManufacturersAs a handset manufacturer, you need to strike a bal-

ance between needs of the end-users and needs of

your direct customers. Mobile Network Operators

(MNOs) will only purchase handsets that comply

with specifications that allow the handset to be used

in mobile payments.

Collis is your specialist partner when it comes to

compliance and interoperability testing. Through the

Collis Test Centre, we offer testing and certification

services to ensure your handsets comply to the latest

standards, such as SWP – HCI.

For over a decade we have focused on developing

market leading acceptance and interoperability test

solutions. Use our expertise to reduce the risks of

damage to your valuable brand.

Our broad range of mobile handset test tools will en-

sure your handsets are reliable and secure, so you

can keep up with the latest technology needs of your

customers without having to worry about technical

compliance.

Card ManufacturersThe global market for telecom smart cards for

GSM/3G/LTE, continues to grow with new opportuni-

ties both geographically and technologically.

In February 2008, the GSMA agreed on the UICC as the

preferred location for the Secure Element (SE). The SE

is the location where SPs can safely store their ap-

plications. However, this is not mandated. Whatever

solution you may adopt when manufacturing cards,

compliance with the latest standards is still neces-

sary.

You, as card manufacturer, are part of the NFC eco-

system. Collis assists you with the testing and certifi-

cation of your cards. We ensure your cards comply to

the latest standards set by organisations such as ETSI

and GlobalPlatform so that they can be used within

the NFC/TSM implementations.

Complying with standards means your card is secure

and will the preferred card to use.

Page 9: Collis 42 Mobile Products a Services Brochure

The success of a TSM infrastructure depends very

much on the compliance of all the elements and

components to the existing standards.

All elements; Secure elements (SEs), mobile devices,

the MNO’s infrastructure, the TSM system and the

SPs have to comply with the standards. Otherwise,

with potentially infinite combinations of solutions/

components, it is virtually impossible to achieve the

goal of a widely accepted and interoperable NFC/TSM

infrastructure.

The keyword is trust. A TSM can only be trust-worthy

if the underlying infrastructure is.

There are many stakeholders involved in an NFC/

TSM ecosystem implementation. Not all components

are necessarily visible to all stakeholders, and no di-

rect trust relation exists between all of them.

To bridge the gaps, our test centre offers the neces-

sary testing services to every player within the eco-

system, with clear definition of domains and compo-

nents involved.

As an independent single point of contact we facili-

tate a so called one-stop-shop for testing of all mo-

bile components and streamline the trust relation

between stakeholders.

The Collis Test Centre can assist to achieve the goal

of a successful TSM implementation and provides

testing and certification services to comply with all

standards.
