Other Degree Options Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. It is the most fundamental science, and is the basis for other sciences, including chemistry, oceanography, seismology, astronomy. Physicists develop broad perspectives in problem solving, along with versatile analytical skills. These include performing calculations, data analysis, summarizing research findings, equipment design, computer programming, testing hypotheses, organizing ideas and materials, defining problems, and reading critically, among many others. Employers know that physicists have these desirable skills and pay accordingly; physics graduates can expect career salaries similar to those of computer science and engineering majors.
