Brief History• established in 1972• Funded by NSF since 1976• acquired U.W. core collection in 1990• 3 facility expansions• 1994 expansion

• 1998 purchased Geotek MST• 2001 added line scan camera to MST• 2007 new track for line scan camera• 2009 New 4000 cu.ft. refrigerator• 2010 Added 1350 cu.ft. Walk-In freezer• 2010 new paleomagnetic point source added to camera

track• 2012 developed MGR website with interactive capabilities• 2012 founding member of IGSN e.V.• 2013 acquired 2 Motorola bar code scanners (one remote)

for reading QR codes

• Over 6100 cores, almost 16,000M of mud• Almost 5500 dredges, over 10,000 rocks• About 2200 Manganese Nodules• Over 1600 sediment trap samples

– Both wet splits in formalin and dry material
