You may be asking yourself, what is the summer slide? Summer Slide refers to the loss of learning that takes place when school breaks and students are no longer in the classroom. “Summer slide,” “brain drain,” and “summer learning loss” all describe the phenomenon and occurs when students “turn off their brains” during the summer months (iD Tech, 2018). I know it is hard to believe the 2019-2020 academic school year will end in three more months. In an effort to help our students avoid the Summer Slide, the College and Career Readiness/ GEAR UP Office is partnering with various colleges, universities, organizations and other departments to ensure Fort Wayne Community Schools students have opportunities to participate in educational, summer camps and programs that explore their postsecondary options and career interests. Please take a look at page six to explore our partnerships for summer camp and program options.
