Our Vision Ignite the Passion: inspiring young women to change the world – me aro ki te hā o Hineahuone! We live the virtues of Faith, Hope and Justice. Our charism is expressed through Communion, Contemplation, Mission. 1 shgcham.school.nz College News ISSUE 05 June 2020 AGE QUOD AGIS Like us on Set your heart on Sacred Heart Tena koutou katoa Nga mihi nui ki a koutou Tihei Mauri ora – kia tau te rangimārie! Kia ora e te Whānau Last weekend, should have been Mission Cup and Te Toa Shield competitions and this year we were expecting our Sisters-in-Mission school from Sacred Heart, Melbourne, to join us for the first time. It was the Feast of the Visitation and Pentecost, two significant feast days for the Mission Sisters and we had plans to make it a very special event. Then came a global pandemic...and the world stopped. Even though Earth might be groaning, Heaven is still singing...so let’s hum along with hope: Kotahi aroha Ngākau tahi e Whakamaua kia tina Haumi e, hui e, tāiki e One love. One heart. Let’s get together and feel alright. (Bob Marley translated by Ruia Aperahama) Kia pai te rā okioki...have a good weekend! SENIOR COUNCIL LEADERSHIP Kia ora! My name is Lucy Muldowney, and I have the absolute privilege of being Deputy Head Girl – Learning this year. The definition for learning when searched for on Google, says “the acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience, or being taught”. For me, this doesn’t necessarily just highlight academics. Learning is being a part of a sports team and perfecting that new hockey skill; learning is experiencing the rich, diverse culture we have here at Sacred Heart; learning is spending hours on that piece of artwork you have been dying to finish; learning is being a part of the multiple clubs and committees Sacred Heart offers to all students’; learning is recognising that the word “fail” stands for ‘first attempt at learning’; learning is experiencing and trying new things with an open mind. My goal is to emphasise that learning is a process, you will face times of adversity in all aspects of your learning, and it is essential we are diligent within our approach to these challenges. I want to encourage all students to support and encourage their peers in their learning and personal goals throughout the year. From the Principal PRIVATE PIANO TUTOR Sacred Heart Music is happy to announce a new private Piano tutor for the department – Fergus Byett.
