CollectiveImpactisthecommitmentofagroupofimportantactorsfromdifferentsectorstoacommonagendaforsolvingaspecificsocialproblemoropportunity.Unlikemostcollaborations,collectiveimpactinitiativesinvolveacentralizedinfrastructure,adedicatedstaffandastructuredprocessthatleadstoacommonagenda,sharedmeasurementsystem,mutuallyreinforcingactivities,continuouscommunicationandbackboneorganization.

Withan“unconference”approach,thisparticipant-drivengatheringexploresacommonagendatoaddresscommunityissuesthroughthearts.Attendeesidentifyopportunitiesandchallenges,shareandgatherexpertisefromthefield,andwalkawaywithtoolsandstrategiestobeapartofthesolutionforlastingchangeintheircommunities.Theagendaalsoincludes“nutsandbolts”sessions,collaborativeplanning,timefornetworkingandopportunitiestoexperiencetheartsinthebeautifulcityofMurfreesboro.

Achildbornwithaveiloverherfaceindicatingasixthsense,deliveredbyhermidwifegrandmotherintoafamilyofsixchildren,MississippiMillieremembersnotjustthehymnssheheardthechoirsingintheBaptistchurchwherehermotherplayedpiano,butalsothe‘Devil’sMusic’sheheardperformedintheDelta.

Whenshewastwelve,MilliefoundherselfstandingbeforePhiladelphiaaudiences,beltingouttunesmadepopularbysuchBluesgreatsasDinahWashingtonandBillieHoliday.Duringthe’60s,MillietraveledtoNewYorkCitywithhersister.Thereshewasofferedthe

opportunitytotourEuropewiththeCatherineDunhamtroupeasa“pivotgirl.”

Millie’scareergainedmomentuminthe‘70swhenshewasinvitedtosubforRobertaHightower,leadsingerfortheOrlons.Eventually,Millebecametheirpermanentlead,butattheendoffiveyearsshemovedtoNashville,TNforasongwritingdeal.MilliethenmovedtoLosAngeleswhereshequicklybuiltasolidfanbase.Duringthisrich‘80smusicalperiod,MilliealsotraveledfromLosAngelestoPhoenix,Arizona,toheadlinetheWomeninBluesWeekwithKoKoTaylorandSueFoley.Allthewhile,thisdeep-downBluessingerremainedtruetoherDeltaroots,earningforherselfthenickname,‘MississippiMillie.’After15fruitfulyearsinCalifornia,MilliemovedbacktoNashvilleandtheimpetusMillieneededtofinallydigintoasolorecording.Titled“MississippiMillie,AcousticDeltaBlues,”theCDshowcasesanartistwhoisabletoinfusetheoriginalsoundsoftheMississippiDeltawithherownbrandoforiginalityandstyle,whileremainingtruetotheheartandsoulofBluesmusic.WhileMississippiMilliecontinuestorecordheroriginalsongs,sheisalsocontinuallyfine-tuningherone-womanshow,“MotherBlues.”

Kofi Mawuko,anativeofGhana,WestAfrica,beganlearningtraditionalrhythmsonGa,AshantiandEwedrumsattheageof10.Hepossessesanaturaltalentforsinging,dancingandplayingvariousmusicalinstruments.Mawuko,ashepreferstobecalled,hastraveledextensivelythroughouttheworldasleaddancerandmasterdrummerwiththeKyiremCulturalTroupe,aGhanaian-basedperformingcompanythattouredinternationallyinthe‘70sand‘80s.Inlate1980,hesettledinLondonwherehetaughtmusicanddanceatlocalschools,composedsongsandwroteplaysforlocaltheatergroups.HismusicalcompositionswereselectedforproductioninthePan-AfricanHistoricalTheatreFestivalandthefirstAfricanEmancipationDaycelebrationheldinAccra,Ghana.Mawuko’sworkshavebeenpublicizedinnumeroustelevisionandmovieproductionsinAccra,GhanaandLondon,England.

JohnsonhasaB.S.inHealthcareAdministrationfromtheUniversityofSouthAlabamaandaMastersinPublicAdministrationfromEasternKentuckyUniversity.

Michelle McEwen, Accounting Technician IIMichelleMcEwenhasbeenwiththeTennesseeArtsCommissionsince2007.Sheisresponsibleforaccountspayable,grantcontracts,theinventoryequipment,andprocurement.ShereceivedherBachelor’sdegreeinBusinessAdministrationfromLaneCollege,whereshegraduatedmagnacumlaude.

Previously,sheworkedasanaccountingtechnicianfortheTennesseeHigherEducationCommission.Shehasalsoworkedasataxpreparer,dataentryclerk,andcheckprocessoratorganizationssuchastheNashvilleCareerAdvancementCenterandAmericanStandard.CurrentlysheispursuingaMaster’sdegreeinBusinessAdministrationfromtheUniversityofPhoenix.

Vickie McPherson, Arts Program Administrative AssistantVickieMcPhersonisanAdministrativeAssistantfortheArtsPrograms.ShehasbeenwiththeTennesseeArtsCommissionforfiveandahalfyearsandhasbeenastateemployeeofTennesseeformorethantenyears.

Herroleistosupporttheartsprogramdirectorswithgrantprocessingandprogramming,mainlythroughresearchingorganizationsandcategorizinggrants.ShealsomanageshumanresourcestransactionsfortheCommission.HerpreviouspositionwaswiththestateHumanResourcesDepartment.Priortothat,shehandledaccountingforUPSandtheMid-StateAutomotive.

Jared Morrison, Director of Performing ArtsJaredMorrisonbeganhistenureasPerformingArtsDirectorattheTennesseeArtsCommissioninJanuary2014.Forthepast15years,hehasheldmarketing,developmentandartisticadministrationpositionsatmanyrespectedartsinstitutions,includingtheNashvilleandChicagosymphonyorchestras,SpiveyHall,SarasotaOperaandLyricOperaofChicago.

MorrisonholdsaB.M.inVocalPerformancefromShorterCollege,aM.M.inArtsAdministrationfromFloridaStateUniversity,andisaformerOPERAAmericaFellow.InadditiontohisworkwiththeCommission,heisanactivevocalsoloistandchoralmusician.

Grace Robinson, Public Information and Research CoordinatorNashvillenative,GraceRobinsonfirstjoinedtheTennesseeArtsCommissionasaninterninMayof2014andthenasastaffmemberinJulyof2015.HercurrentpositionassiststheDepartmentofMarketingandDevelopmentwithagencypromotionsandcommunicationsthroughtraditionalandsocialmedia.Shealsocontributestomarketresearchandeventplanning.

Whileearningherdegree,RobinsonworkedatSt.Mary’sBookstore,afamily-ownedNashvillebusiness,beforeherextensiveinternshipwiththeCommission.Shegraduatedcumlaude,andnowholdsaB.S.inmasscommunicationswithaconcentrationinadvertisingandpublicrelations,andminorsineconomicsandmarketingfromMiddleTennesseeStateUniversity.

Diane Williams, Director of Grants ManagementDianeWilliamshasbeenwiththeTennesseeArtsCommissionsince2003.Inherrole,sheoverseesgrantcontractsfromstarttofinishandworkswithgranteestoensurethatproperfilingandbudgetaryprotocolsarebeingfollowed.Shealsoconductspre-auditsofgrantpaymentrequestsandmaintainsadetailedrecordofallsubmittedandapprovedgrants.

InadditiontoherworkwiththeCommission,WilliamsisalongtimememberofDeltaSigmaThetaSorority,Inc.forwhichsheservedpreviouslyaspresident,treasurer,andfinancialsecretary.SheisalsoaboardmemberandformertreasureroftheFortitudeFoundation.Priortohercurrentposition,Williamsworkedinthebankingindustryfor28years,startinghercareeratFirstAmericanBank.ShereceivedherB.S.fromTennesseeStateUniversity.
