COLFAX TAVERN & DINER COLD BEER, NM LOCATION: The Colfax Tavern & Diner is nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains between Cimarron and Raton in northern New Mexico. It is situated on the northeast junction of US Highway 64 and NM State Road 505. The town of Maxwell, NM is approximately 12 miles to the east; Raton, NM is about 24 miles to the northeast; and Cimarron, NM is 11 miles to the southwest. LOCATION:

The Colfax Tavern & Diner is nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo

Mountains between Cimarron and Raton in northern New Mexico. It is situated on the northeast

junction of US Highway 64 and NM State Road 505. The town of Maxwell, NM is approximately

12 miles to the east; Raton, NM is about 24 miles to the northeast; and Cimarron, NM is 11 miles

to the southwest.

The Tavern is just north of the old spur of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe railroad where the

old West town of Colfax, New Mexico was situated along US Hwy 64 and entrance to the old

historic coal mining town of Dawson.

GEOGRAPHICS :

The Colfax Tavern & Diner is located in the hub of the Colfax County on the eastern range

of the mountains and was and continues to be the gathering point for hard working Cowboys

and Locals from the area towns and a point of interest for the numerous Tourists that stop by for

cool refreshments and great food.

The town of Maxwell is to the east where NM State Road 505 meets Interstate 25. There are

several fishing lakes and a National Wildlife Refuge just east of Maxwell in route to Colfax

Tavern.

Raton is about 25 minutes to the northeast along US Highway 64 and is the Colfax County Seat.

It is the commercial center for the area. Interstate 25, a major highway from the Mexican border

to northern Wyoming runs through Raton. The town has medical facilities and shopping to offer

for general needs. South of Raton along US Hwy 64 towards Colfax Tavern is an airport capable

of handling private jets. Also along this route is the NRA Whittington Center. The National Rifle

Association’s National Center boasts numerous shooting ranges for various types of shooting

competition matches on approximately 33,000 acres.

To the south of Colfax Tavern is the quaint Old West Town of Cimarron, New Mexico. Cimarron

is famous for its western heritage, colorful and historic characters such as Clay Allison, Kit Carson

and Jesse James, which were known to frequent the bars and hotels there. Now, Cimarron is

better known as being the home of Philmont Scout Ranch and is the entrance to the Colin

Neblett Wildlife Area and the scenic Cimarron Canyon State Park.

The larger cities of Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs and Denver are located within a 3

to 5 hour drive of the Tavern. These cities all have commercial airports and major shopping.

ATTRACTIONS & AMENITIES:

In addition to Lake 13 and Stubblefield Lake just down the road from the Tavern, there is great

high mountain fishing at Eagle Nest Lake and camping in the Carson National Forest, which are

within 30 minutes from Colfax Tavern. Lake Maloya, NE of Raton and Trinidad Lake, west of

Trinidad, CO are also within an easy drive from the Tavern.

The ski resorts of Angel Fire, Red River and Taos are also within an hour’s drive from the Tavern.

Golfing can be found at Raton, Angel Fire and Taos. There are also jet accessible airports located

in Angel Fire and Taos, NM. The Tavern has hosted the “Prairie Dog Open” behind the Tavern,

where golfers try to hit barrels located in the pasture. Fun Times!!

The Tavern is known to host live music with two different stages and dance floors and has

hosted some well known celebrities in what has become an Annual Event at the Tavern. A

“Big-Name” Summer Kick-Off Concert with country singers Rick Trevino was last-year and the

Owners are negotiating to bring in Mark Chestnut for this year.

The biggest event of the year is the “Annual Honky-Tonk Hodgepodge” , which is a full

weekend of a variety of constant music and camping for 100’s of people from all over.

Other special events include Run to Raton Biker Rally, Beach Volleyball, National Wild Turkey

Federation Banquet (Father’s Day), Pasture Golf Day, Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, New Year’s

Day, Superbowl, & Mardi Gras parties to name a few as well as birthday, graduation and other

local event parties.

The area around Colfax Tavern is known for its spectacular trophy game hunting on private

ranches and brings in some interesting hunters from all over the country, who love to share

their camaraderie and stories of their hunts over drinks at Tavern.

The Owners also raise bucking bulls and do Cowboy seminars, so there are plenty of televised

western events and occasional visits from Rodeo Superstars such as this year’s Rookie Bull

Rider of the Year, Dalton Kasel.

Bikers, Cowboys & Cowgirls, Hunters, Tourists, as well as the Locals all get along and have a

good time at the Tavern!

As a sign on the wall in the Tavern says, “Where Not Much Happens But

You Better be Here When It Does”!

ANOTHER NAME FOR COLFAX TAVERN AND DINER

Previous owners painted in large letters “COLD BEER” on the front of the original building to get

the attention of the “passer-bys”! Thus, the travelers gave the name “Cold Beer, New Mexico”

as the destination for food & drink, which has spread world wide!

The “Cold Beer, NM” logo has been patented and photos of patrons wearing T-Shirts from all

over have been sent back to the owners. One photo was from a service man as he sat on the

captured throne of Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

BAR & POOL ROOM

This is a full service bar with a County Dispensary Liquor License. This

means the license can be used in other locations within Colfax County

for special events. The Tavern has two signature brews that have been

featured at events in Raton, Red River and other towns for October Fest

and other area events.

The Tavern offers a good food menu and specializes in “Pizza & Green

Chili Cheeseburgers” and Green Chili Phillies”. Steak-Nite is a local

favorite & the Owners have cooked up Barbecue briskets and Home

Made Stews with all the fixins’ for frequent events at the Tavern.
