WELCOMEOnbehalfofWDEA,welcomeeveryonetothe25thAnnualGeneralMeeting.ThisAGMmarkstwenty-fiveyearssinceWDEAbeganonthe16thofAugust1989,wherethreeofushadtofind20jobsforpeoplewithdisabilitieswithintwelvemonths.Wehavesincegrowntoanorganisationofthreehundredstaffturningover17milliondollarsandfindingjobsfor700peoplewithdisabilitiesinthepastyear.Ourstaffshouldbeveryproudofthisachievement.

WDEA’stwoemploymentprograms,JobServicesandDisabilityEmployment,arethebiggeststrengthsoftheorganisation.Congratulationstothestaffoftheseprogramsforthegreatrecordofachievementthroughoutthepasttwelvemonths.

25yearswithWDEAisahugeachievementforwhatstartedoutasaverysmallnot-for-profitorganisation.Tobewherewearetoday,andfortheCOMtohavehadthevisiontogrowtheorganisationparticularlyinthefieldofdisability,hasstoodusingreatsteadforwherewewanttogointhefuture.
OurofficesnowspanmostofthissideofVictoria,givingusverystrongregionalcoverage.Thetendencyinthelastfiveyearshasbeenthat,intheareasofemploymentanddisability,governmentcontractshavebecomelargerandwantgreaterareascoveredsotheyhavesmallernumbersofcontractstomanage.Wehavefoundthattostayinthisindustrywehadtogetbigger.IfwehadremainedasmallagencyaroundtheWesternDistrict,therewouldhavebeeneverychancethatwewouldnowbestrugglingtostayinbusiness.
This year our disability programs expanded across anumberofsitesafterbeinggivenbusinessthatwedidnothavetotenderforbecauseofourhighperformance.WewereaskedtotakeonnewbusinessintheGoulburnValley,whichledtousopeninganofficeinSheppartonandprovidingoutreachservicesin Echuca and Cobram. Our Bendigo site has had a largeincreaseinbusinessandwehavealsotakenonadditionalbusinessintheGrampians.OneofthethingsthatIamextremelyproudofisthatwehaveassisted700peoplewithdisabilitiesintoemploymentthisyear.ThestaffinourDisabilityEmploymentprogramshouldbeextremelyproudofwhattheyhaveachieved.Youhavegivenopportunitiestopeoplewhowouldnothavehadthem,ifitwasn’tfortheworkthatyouputin.Withthecombinationofourdisabilityprograms,wearerankedastheleadingprovideracrossAustralia.Fora small regional agency that started in Warrnambool tobenowrankedhigherthananyoneelseinthecountryindisabilityisamarvellousachievement.This

issomethingthatourDisabilityEmploymentworkersshouldbeextremelyproudof.
Jobserviceshadaverygoodconsistentyear.Weare coming up to tender again this year and there hasbeenalotifmediacoverageaboutthisprogramandwhatthegovernmentwantstodo.Wehavetowriteagoodtenderforthisandlookatwherewewanttoapplyforbusinessinthefuture.
Otherpartsofourbusinesshaveexperiencedsometerrificturnaroundsthisyear.OurADEs(AustralianDisabilityEnterprises)thatarerunoutatAlbertStreet,SteamandCleanatKoroitStreetandNigrettainHamiltonhavebeenstrugglingfinancially.OurADEsreportedasignificantlosslastyear,andIamhappytoreportthatwhilewedidstilllosesomemoneythisyear,theADEshereinWarrnamboolhavehadaterrificyear.IcongratulateSusieHillandJackMelicanfordoingamarvellousjobofgettingthecostsdownandproductivityupintheseprograms.Wehavesomewonderfulsupervisorswhoprovideasupportiveandsafeworkplaceforoursupportedemployees.
Ofthe310peoplethatareemployedbyWDEA,142(or42%)ofthosearepeoplewhohaveadisability.Thereareveryfeworganisationsthatcouldsaythat,andweshouldbeextremelyproudofthis.
OurCommunityprogramsarethedayservicesthatwerunforthemostvulnerablegroupofpeoplethatweworkwith.Thereisnodoubtthisisadifficultpartofourbusiness,aswiththeintroductionoftheNDISthewholefundingmodelisabouttochange.Wehaveuntil2018toworkoutifwecanoperateinthatenvironmentandarecurrentlyunsurewhetherwecanadaptforittowork.Iamextremelyproudofthestaffwhoworkinourdayservicescentres,theygivecareforpeoplewithveryhighneeds,whilecontinuingtooperateasafeworkingenvironment.Theyareawonderfulgroupofpeoplewhoworkveryhard,andIcommendthemforthejobtheydo.
Thenewestpartofourbusinessisthetrainingarm.WepurchasedBalanceTraininglatelastyear,toincreaseourabilitytotrainourstaffandtoprovidethetrainingneededforourclients.ThisissomethingthatwillstrengthenWDEAoverthecomingyears.IwelcomeeveryonefromBalanceTrainingtotheWDEAfamily;itislovelytohaveyouaspartofourteam.
Thisyearwehaveturnedtheorganisationaroundfinanciallyafterthelosswereportedlastyear.Toachievethiswehadtomakesomedifficultdecisionsinthepastyear,oneofwastheclosingdownofour
artgalleryandstudiolink.Thatwasamarvellousfacilitymannedbygoodpeople,butwecouldn’taffordtokeepitopenduetostategovernmentcontractsthatranoutandfundingthatdidnotgetrenewed.TheartprogramitselfisbeingcontinuedbyJackandSusieatAlbertStreet.ThankyoutothepeoplewhoworkedatArtlink,itwasnotaneasydecisiontoclosethefacility,butwehavetomakebusinessdecisionsthatdon’talwayspleaseeverybodyandIunderstandthat.
Wehavefourmajorchallengestofaceinthecomingyear,includingtherolloutoftheNDIS,thetransitionfromBSWATtoaSupportedWageManagementSystem,thenewemploymentservicestenderandthe Disability Employment DMS expansion.
TherearemanypeoplethatIwishtothank,beginningwithourlong-termprogrammanagerinDSSJockMclean,whoretiredthisyear.Jockstartedmanagingusbackin1989andhehasbeenawealthofknowledgeforusfromtheDepartmentofSocialServices,andIwouldliketopubliclythankhimfortheassistancethathehasofferedourorganisationfor25years.IwouldliketothankJohnFletcherfromDEEWR,andTrevorGibbsandLisaCrispefromDHS.
Thankyoutoalltheemployersfromthebusinessesacrossalltheregions,youarethereasonwhywegot700peoplewithdisabilitiesand1350peoplefromJobServicesintojobs.Thankyoutoallthevolunteersonoursitesforyourtimeandassistancethroughouttheyear.Iwouldalsoliketothankthesitemanagersandcoordinators.Ihaveaskedalotofyouthisyear,andyouhaveworkedveryhardandbackedusupontheexecutiveteam.ThankyoutoallourstaffIsincerelyappreciatewhatyoudo.ThewayyouconductyourselveswithourclientsandthepublicisacredittoyouandtoWDEA,andwethankyouverymuch.Thankyoutomydirectorsandcoordinators;Brettwiththeemploymentprograms,KimwithCommunity,andMichaelwithTraining.ToJasonandhisCorporateServicesteam,wehaven’tincreasedthestaffingnumbermuchthere,andtheworkhascontinuedtogrow.YoudoawonderfuljobandyouareoneofthereasonswhyWDEAfunctionsasitdoes.
IwouldlikeinparticulartothankAlanGoldsworthy,ourdirectorofoperations.Heputsinamassiveamountofworkandlonghours,doingamarvellousjobforthisorganisationandthepeopleinit,onbehalfofallthestaffthankyou.ThemembersofourCommitteeofManagementdon’thaveaneasyjobandgivetheirtimevoluntarily.Theywork

veryhardtomakesureWDEAisontherightpathtostayinbusiness,andtoprovideaservicetothecommunity.ThankyoutoJohnwhoisretiringfromthechairperson’sroleandwelcomeMary.

Thisyearwehavereportedaprofitof$370,685whichisamarvellousturnaroundfromlastyear’slossof$116,425.OurDisabilityEmploymentprogramsgenerate46%ofourincome,JobServices34%,Enterprises(ourADEs)7%andourCommunityprograms4%.FromabusinesspointofviewweareheavilyreliantonourDisabilityandJobServicespartsofourbusiness.Theperformanceoftheseareasensuresthatthisbusinesshasheldupreallywell.
Inregardstoourprofitof$370,685,itisimportanttonotethatanot-for-profitorganisationstillneedstomakeaprofit,asifyoudon’tmakesomemoneyyourbusinessfails.Theorganisationneedstobeabletoreplaceandmaintainitsinfrastructure.Thisyearwespendabout$100,000improvingtheworkingconditionsforoursupportedemployeesatAlbertStreet,byrenovatingpartofthebuildingandinstalling air conditioning and heating. We spent $45,000onreplacingoneofthebussesandgettingawheelchairliftinstalledinitforourCommunityprograms.WealsooutgrewourofficeinBallaratandhadtomovetoabiggerofficewhichcost$200,000torenovateandmovetothenewoffice.Thesearethereasonswhyyouhavetoshowaprofitinanot-for-profitorganisation.
WDEAisinaveryhealthypositionfinancially,whichiswhereweneedtobetobeabletogrowandrunthedisabilitypartofourbusiness.

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS REPORTMickhasalreadyspokenaboutthestrongperformanceofouremploymentprograms,andtheresultinggrowthinourDisabilityEmploymentServices.IwouldliketoacknowledgetheeffortsofBrettandhisteamofcoordinators,theSiteManagers,TeamLeadersandstaffthathaveworkedsohardtogettheperformancetoalevelthatwouldbetheenvyofeveryotheremploymentproviderinthecountry.Iknowweaskalotfromyouall,butyouhaverisentothechallengeanddeliveredinspades.
ThisgrowthinbusinesshasresultedintheopeningofournewsiteinSheppartonandtherelocationtobigger premises in Ballarat.
AnothermajorchangeduringthefinancialyearwasthetakeoverofBalanceTrainingServicesinNovemberlastyear.WDEAhaslongheldtheopinionthattheadditionofatrainingarmwouldstrengthenourservicedelivery.Sowhenwewereapproachedabout12monthsagotojoinforces,itseemedthelogicalsteptotake.NowoperatingunderthebannerasWDEATraining,wehave32staffinvolvedinthedeliveryofqualitytrainingcoursesacrossanumberofour sites.

Strategically,Ibelievewearestrongerinhavingtheopportunitytodeliverourowntailoredtrainingcoursestoourclientele.Financially,wearenowinvestingmoneyintoourownlongtermdevelopment.Butmoreimportantly,wearenowabletodelivermoreeffectiveinternaltrainingtoourstaff,particularlyintermsofcomplianceandperformancewitheachoftheserviceswedeliver.TheprocessofbuildingacomprehensivetrainingprogrammeforouremploymentservicesstaffiscurrentlybeingdevelopedandfromwhatIhaveseensofar,itwillchangethewayweprepareanddevelopstafftofulfiltheirrolesinthefuture.
IwouldliketothankMichael,NicoleandJanine,fortheworktheyhavedonetomakeWDEATrainingareality.Ialsoappreciatetheeffortsofourcorporateservicesstafffortheextraworkloadthattheyhaveabsorbed through this process.
Threeweeksagowesubmittedatenderresponseforadditionaldisabilityemploymentservicesinsomeofourexistinglocations.Wehavealsotenderedforsomenewlocationsthatwemayormaynotget.TheresultsofthistenderwillnotbeknownuntilaroundNovember,butIamconfidentwewillgetsome,ifnotall,ofwhatwetenderedfor.
ThecurrentJobServicesAustraliaprogramwillgototenderbytheendofthismonth.Anexposuredraftofthetenderhasbeenreleasedforcomment,andrepresentsamajorchangeinfocusandservicedelivery.Thenewcontractprovidesamajorshiftindesignanddeliveryofemploymentservices.Itpromotes a stronger emphasis on employer and industryengagement,somethingthatIbelievewealreadydowell,andincludesincreasedjobseekercompliance,withincreasedworkforthedoleengagementandjobseekingrequirements.
Workonthistenderresponsehasalreadybegunwiththepreparationoffinancialmodellingandproposedchangestoservicedeliverymethods.ThereisalsoaseparatetenderprocessfortheWorkfortheDolecoordination.Againwearepreparingsubmissionsforthattender,andwewillkeepstaffupdatedontheprogress.
Sotheyearaheadshouldprovetobeveryinteresting.Newcontracts,possiblynewlocationsandfurtherchallengesawaitus.ButIknowwearewellpreparedtomeetthosechallenges.

Services(DES)contractsandtheJobActive(formally
JSA)contracts.Oursubmissionsweresosuccessful
thatwenotonlyretainedexistingcontractsbutwe
securedmanynewcontractslocatedinpartsofthe
statenotpreviouslyservicedbyWDEA.Oursuccess
isattributednotonlytosuccessfultenderwriting,but
alsoisareflectionofthecaseworkerswhogiveusthe
desired employment results. Well done to all. Our CEO

InMarchthisyear,theCOMandexecutivegroup
mettocommenceworkonanewStrategicPlanfor
theorganisation.Asagroupweoutlinedourvision
andthekeystrategicprioritiesfortheorganisation
overthenext3-5years.Thekeyoutcomesfocuson
theclients,innovationandgrowth,efficientsystems
andfinancialstability.Astrategicplanisalwaysa
workingdocument.Whileitcontainsthevisionforthe
organisation,italsoneedstohaveflexibilitytochange
ascircumstancechange.Theplanservesasour
guidingdocumentforthenextfewyears.
Thestrategicplanningprocesshighlightedthatwith
thesignificantexpansionoftheorganisation,the
urgentneedtoexaminewhetherthecurrentstructure
basedonprogramsisappropriateandservesthe
interestoftheorganisation.Henceinrecentmonths
wehaveengagedSEDconsulting,aWarrnambool
basedfirm,toundertakeareviewofourstructure
todeterminewhatisbestfortheorganisationgiven
thatweoperateinmanylocationsandofferdifferent
servicesacrossthelocations.Thereviewisexamining
thecurrentstructureandhowitmightbeimproved
tobetterdelivertheservicesoffered;itisnotacost
cuttingorstaffreducingexercise.
Giventheimportantroleacommitteeof
managementplaysinthestrategicdirection,effective
governingandleadershipofanyorganisation,
the planning process also highlighted the need to
reviewtheskillsandexpertiseofthemembersto
ensurewehavethemostrelevantandstrategically
focussedcommitteeinplacetoguidetheenlarged
organisation.
InJulyitwasverypleasingtoonceagainhavethe
WarrnibaldandAchiboolPortraitPrizes.Aftermissinga
year,theWarrnamboolcommunitywasveryreceptive
tohavingtheportraitartshowstagedagain.Thiswas
thethirdWarrnibaldandthefirstheldinconjunction
withtheWarrnamboolCityCouncilandstagedinthe
WarrnamboolArtGallery.Theshowattractedmany
extravisitorstothegallerytoseesomemagnificent
workbymanylocalartists.
TheWDEACommitteeofManagementconsistsof9
committedindividualswhogivetheirtime,support
anddifferenttalentstohelptheorganisationgrow
andsucceedasitseekstofulfilitsvision.Ithankthem
fortheirdedicationandlookforwardtoworkingwith
them in the coming year.

WhenIreportedtoyoulastyeartwoofthemajor
challengesthatIlistedforthecomingyearwere
thetenderingoutofourJobServicesAustralia(JSA)
contract and the need to expand our Disability
EmploymentServices(DES)program.Iamhappy
toreportthatwehaveachievedouraimwithboth
these programs.
The30thJunesawthecompletionofourJSA
contract,thisbusinesswasretenderedunderthe
jobactivebanner.Theresultsofthistenderwere
positiveforWDEAwithnewbusinessbeinggained
inMildura,SwanHill,andBendigoandalarge
increase in business in Ballarat. WDEA retained all its
businessonallitsothersites.Thenumberofproviders
nationallyhasreducedfrom98to44providers.
WewerealsoverysuccessfulwithourDESbusinessin
boththeDES-DMSandDES-ESSprogramsexpanding.
WDEAgainednewbusinessinBendigo,Shepparton,
MountGambierandSwanHillandwonincreases
incurrentbusinesslevelsinBallarat,Colacand
Warrnambool.
ThereareanumberofreasonsWDEAcontinuesto
besuccessfulwithitswinningofnewbusiness.The
mainonesbeingourcontinuinghighperformance
across all our sites in placing people into sustainable
employmentandourabilitytoprovideacompliant
service.Muchofthecreditforwinningnewbusiness
mustgodowntoourabilitytoputtogetheragood
tenderandmuchofthecreditforthismustgotoour
OperationsDirectorAlanGoldsworthyandhistender
writingteam.
OfcourseWDEAisnowaboutalotmorethanour
mainstream employment programs and other parts
ofourorganisationhaveperformedverywell.
EnterpriseswithourADEprogramshavehadan
excellentyearandperformedconsistently.They
haveprovidedongoingemploymentfor86staff
acrossavarietyofprograms.TheteamatEnterprises
havehadabusinessfocusthisyearthathasresulted
inahealthyturnaroundinourfinancesandprovided
asafe,friendlyworkingenvironmentforall.Our
EwasteoperationsucceededinobtainingISO
accreditationforitsoperation.
Communitycontinuestoprovideanexcellentservice
to our clients at both our Fairy Street and Dennington
sites.AllourCommunitystaffaretobecongratulated
onthehighqualityservicesthattheycontinueto
delivertoallourclients.TheSocialisersgroupcontinue
tobeanimportantpartofWDEAwithstaffcontinuing
tovolunteertheirservicestosupportthegroup.
DirectorsandManagementofbothCommunityand
Enterprisesaretobecongratulatedforbringingboth
thesedivisionsinonbudgetforthefirsttimesince
WDEA has run them.
OurnewestdivisionTraininghasalsostartedtomake
itsmarkontheorganisationandhasprovidedsome
verypleasingoutcomesoverthepastyear.Training
willplayabigpartinthenewjobactiveemployment
programoverthenextfiveyears.
Asourorganisationhascontinuedtogrowthe
needforaneffectiveCorporateServicesdivision
hasincreased.Thisdepartmenthastakenona
greatdealofworkinthepastyear.OurHRteam
haverecruitedandinductedaroundsixtynewstaff
membersoverrecentmonthsandourpayrolland
accountsteamhaveseentheirrolesincreaseaswe
havetakenonmorebusiness.TheQAandOHSroles
havenowbecomeextremelyimportantpartsofthe
organisations daily operation.

continuingtransferofallourADEclientsfromthe
BSWATwageassessmentschemetoanewmodelof
wageassessing.
Astheorganisationcontinuestogrowitismost
important that our planning and organisational
structurecansupportthatgrowth.Toallowthisto
continuetohappenourCommitteeofManagement
hasbroughtforwardtheimplementationofanew
strategicplanbytwelvemonths.Thiswillincludea
reviewofthecurrentorganisationalstructure.This
newplanwillbeimplementedoverthenextyear
andwillrunforthreeyears.
AsalwaysImustusemyreporttothankanumber
ofpeople.Firstly,thankyoutoalltheemployers
whocontinuetouseourbusiness.Thankstoall
thosecontractmanagersattheDepartmentof

The2014-15financialyearhasbeen an exciting year in terms ofgrowthfortheorganisation.
FourmonthsofintensivetenderwritingearlyintheyearresultedinsignificantgrowthinourEmploymentdivision.DisabilityEmploymentServices,throughtenderingandbusinessreallocation,increased client numbers by
over46%,andincludednewbusinessinSwanHillandMountGambier.
WDEA’stenderresponseforthedeliveryofthejobactiveprogramme,replacingJobServicesAustralia,wasalsoverysuccessful,growingourbusiness share across all locations. Client numbers haveincreasedbyover115%,addingbusinesstoourexistinglocationsinBendigoandSwanHill,andextendingourservicesintoMildura.
TheprocessofcompilingWDEA’stenderresponsewasahugetaskrequiringassistancefromanumberofstaffatsitelevel,SiteManagers,EmploymentCoordinatorsandExecutivemembers.Inall,twenty-ninesubmissionsweresentforconsiderationalongwithsupportingdocumentation.SpecialthankstoHayleyPatonforherhelpwiththesubmissions,andtoJulieWhiteforvolunteeringmanyhoursofhertimetoproofreadeachdocument.
WDEA’sincreaseinbusinesshasresultedinsignificantactivityinensuringourpremisesmeettheneedsofthecontractandourstaff.Anoverviewofworkscompleted,orduetobecompletedareasfollows:
WDEA’sHumanResourceteam,ledbyAndrewGiblin,haveworkedovertimetocoordinatetherecruitmentofaroundfiftyadditionalstaffmembersleadingintothenewcontracts.WiththeassistanceofBrett,theEmploymentCoordinatorsandSiteManagers,WDEAhaveaddedsomeveryexperiencedandcapablestafftoourEmploymentDivision.
Whilethefocushasbeenheavyontheemploymentprogrammes,theotherdivisionsofWDEAhavebeenkeptverybusy.WDEATraining,managedbyMichaelStephens,hasundergoneaninternalrestructuretohelpmeetthedemandsofourgeneraltrainingandIndustryPlusdeliverymodel.2015–2016shouldseetheresultsofalotofhardworkinthisarea.
WDEACommunityhascontinuedtodeliveryhighqualityservicestotheclientsofourdayservicesprogrammesandthemembersofoursocialisersgroup.AbigthankyoutoNarelle,Steve,Cheryl,andyourdedicatedteamsforwhatyoudoeachdaytohelpourclientsleadamorefulfilledlife.
Supervisors,employeesandvolunteersworkinginWDEAEnterprises,underthemanagementofJackMelicanandSusieHill,haveworkedtirelesslytodeliveryqualitybusinessserviceswhilstsucceedinginmeetingbudgetfortheyear.It’sbeenagreateffortfromeveryoneinvolved.
FinallybigthankstoMickandtheotherExecutivemembers,Jason,BrettandKimforyoursupport,hardworkanddedicationinwhathasbeenaremarkableyearforWDEA.

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCEWDEAachievedasurplusof$1,019,289forthe2014/2015financialyear.
Totalincomewas$21.1m,anincreaseof$3.3millionfromthepreviousyear.Thisincreasewasduetoadditionalfundinggeneratedthroughthe Disability Employment
programasaresultofbothobtainingemploymentoutcomesforourclientsandtheexpansionofbusinesslevelsacrossanumberofsites.Thisexpansionwasduetothere-allocationofCRSbusinessinMarch2015andinvolvedtheestablishmentofnewsitesinMtGambierandSwanHill.
Totalexpenseswere$20m,anincreaseof$2.7millionfromthepreviousyear.Thiswasduetoanadditional$1.2millionincreaseinstaffingcostspredominantlyforadditionalDisabilityEmploymentbusiness.Therewasalsoanadditional$1mspentonclientcostsfortrainingcoursesandwagesubsidiesforemployers.
The Enterprises and Community programs are to be commendedforreturningtosurplus.Thishasbeenamajorturnaroundoverthelast2-3yearsandIacknowledgethededicationandhardworkfromCo-ordinators,Supervisorsandemployeesinachievingthisresult.Facilitiesandvehicleshavealsobeenupgradedoverthistime,ensuringasafeandproductiveworkingenvironmentforemployeesandclients.
WDEA’sStatementofFinancialPositionremainsstrong,withNetAssetsof$15.4million.WDEAhasmaintainedstrongliquidity,solvencyandfinancialratios,withcashandtermdepositsincreasingto$9.2million.
QUALITY MANAGEMENTWDEAcontinuestoprovideaqualityserviceandhas maintained accreditation against the National StandardsforDisabilityServices,DepartmentofHumanServiceStandardsandISO9001:2008withintheEnterprisesprogram.WDEAwassuccessfulinobtainingISOEnvironmentalaccreditationforourewasteoperationsinMarch2015.
HR & OHSAndrewGiblinwasappointedtothenewpositionofHRManagerinJuly2014.AlongwithrefiningHRandOHSprocesses,theHRteamhasplayedakeyroleintherecruitmentandinductionofnewemployeesfortheadditionalDESandjobactivebusiness,theestablishmentofnewsitesandtheimplementationofthenewEmploymentProgramspositionsandstructure.

The2014/15yearinEmploymentServiceshasbeen hectic and exciting and has seen unprecedented growthfortheorganisationinboth employment programs. Thisgrowthhasbeenachievedasaresultofourcontinuedhighperformance,strategic planning and most importantlythehardworkofourstaff-anditisthe
managementandimplementationofthisgrowththathasbeenthecriticalfocusofourenergiesthisyearandalsolookingforward.
DESDisabilityEmploymentServicesGrowthWewereofferedDMSbusinessbytheDepartmentintheGoulburnValleyESAonthebackofourprovenrecordofhighperformanceinotherareas,andcommencedoperationsinSheppartononthe3rdMarch2014.Thisisadifficultlabourmarketwithclientcharacteristicsthatarequitedifferenttoourotherserviceareas.Wemadeaconsciousdecisiontoemploygoodpeoplefromtheexitingproviderwhohaddroppedtoatwostarratingandtrainedthemtodeliverservicesbyapplyingourprovenmodelofhighperformance.InourfirstmeasurablestarratingonthissiteinDecember2014theteaminSheppartondelivereda5starratingforWDEA.Thisisanamazingachievementbasedonthedifficultclientbaseandrepaysthefaiththedepartmenthadinusbyofferingacontracttouswithoutatenderprocess.
InNovemberof2014weweresuccessfulinourDMSTenderandwonadditionalbusinessinEureka,GoulburnValley,HampdenandBendigo.WealsowonnewbusinessinMidMurrayESA(SwanHill)andSouthEastofSouthAustralia(MtGambier)WewerealsoofferedandacceptedadditionalESSbusinessintheHampdenandBendigoESA’swhichmeantthatwegrewtheoverallclientbaseby42%inthe2014/15financialyear.
PerformanceMaintaininghighperformanceliesattheveryheartofourprogramdeliveryandduetothisfocusourDESperformanceremainsinthetop5%ofofgeneralistdisabilityprovidersinthecountry.Over900clientshavebeenplacedintoemploymentacrossallsitesinthe2014-2015year,anincreaseof50%onthe600placementsachievedinthepreviousfinancialyear.
Theseresultscanonlybeachievedbysustainingourcultureofactiveandeffectivemarketingthatis lead by example. Our experienced people are proactiveinteachingourstaffhowtofindtheirfeetwithjobmatching,marketing,findingvacanciesanddevelopingthestrongemployerrelationshipsthatwillsustainourplacementsintothefuture.
JSA/JAWinningjobactivebusinessOurmainprioritywhentenderingforthenewjobactivecontractwastoprotecttheworkingconditionsofall80staffcurrentlyworkinginthisarmofthebusiness.Notonlywereweabletomaintainbusinessonallsites,butweincreasedmarketshareconsiderablyonthosesitesandwonnewbusinessinBendigoandtheWimmeraMallee(SwanHillandMildura).Thisrepresentsa114%increaseinclientnumbersfrom3000clientsinJobServicescontractto7500injobactive.Consideringthereductioninprovidernumbersinthiscontractfromthe400thatstartedinJobNetworktonow44injobactive,foranagencyofoursizetobesosuccessfulisamonumentalachievement.Duringthisbusyyearwewerestillabletoplaceover1500orourclientsintoemployment.
ThesuccessofthistenderisdueinnosmallparttoourhighperformanceintheJobServicescontractwhichsawourperformanceinthelaststarratingperiodofMarch2015deliveraresultthatshowedoveraquarterofoursitesweresittinginthefourstarband,whenthemajorityofprovidersacrossthecountry(86%)werepositionedfirmlyinthethreestarband.Itisalsoworthnotingthatmanyofourcurrentthreestarsitesweretrendingupwardstowardfourstars.
Winningthejobactivecontracthasresultedinasurgeinrecruitmentwithapprox50newconsultantsbeingemployedacrossallofourexistingsitesandinournewMildurasite.Theprocessoffindingtherightpeopletofillthose50positioninvolvedthescreeningof650applicationsandthefacilitationof170interviewsbyHRandotherkeyemploymentservicesstaff.

OurDayServicesprograms
havecontinuedtoprovide
supporttonearly40clients
andwehaveseveralclients
optingforonetoonesupport
toachievetheirgoalsinthe
community. Some choices
aretraveltraining,shopping
andaccessingcommunityvenues.
Lastyearsprogramreviewwasverysuccessfuland
asaresultDayServicesarenowrunningonbudget
andclientchoicesareenhancedaswelldueto
theintroductionofindividualisedprogramand
servicefees.
Amajorgoalthisyearwastofindasuitablesingle
siteforourDayServices.Wethoughtwewereon
awinnerwhentheformerVisionAustraliabuilding
cameonthemarket;howeverthiswasnotsuccessful
duetothevendornotacceptingouroffer.Thehunt
isonagainforsitethatwillbetterpositionustodeliver
ourcurrentservicesanddevelopsomenewoptions
forclientsinthefuture.
Wehavemaintainedourstrongrelationshipwith
DHHSandourLocalEngagementOfficer,Lisa
Crispe.Lisahassupportedustomakeseveral
changes to our documentation system and a
visitfromLisaandJohnDavies(DHHSStandards)
confirmedthatthechangesareasignificant
improvement.RecentlyWDEAhavereceivedvery
favourablereportsfromDHHSonourcompliance
andreportingstandards.IwouldliketothankLisa
andJohnfortheirhelpinachievingthisgoal.
IwouldalsoliketothanktheDayServicesteamfor
acceptingandadoptingthechangesandfortheir
neverendingdedicationtoourclients.

CHARITABLE TRUST
TheWDEACharitableTrusthasmade13grants
totallingover$73,000thisyear.Recipientsin
severallocationswithinourserviceareahave
utilisedthesupportoftheCharitableTrustto
deliverprogramsandservicestopeoplewith
disabilityanddisadvantage.Afulllistofgrantsis

WDEAEnterprisesbusinessesachievedsomeextraordinaryresultsinthe2014/2015F/Yafter3yearsofrationalisationsincethetransitionfromVantage.
Ofallthebusinesses,EwasteandSteamandCleanwerethestandoutshoweverallreturnedaprofitforthe14/15period.
EWASTEOurEwastebusinessoperatesinanever-changingenvironment.Itisaverydifficultmarketinwhichvariationsincommodityprices,fluctuationsinsupplyanduncertaintywiththeNationalTelevisionandComputerRecyclingSchemehavegivenoursupervisorJamesChapmanmanysleeplessnights,InhisquietandunassumingwayJameswasabletonavigatehiswaythroughthesechallengesandreturnagreatprofitofover$120,000.WelldonetoJamesandhishardworkingemployees.
SteamandClean:InFebruary,AidenMurphytookoverassupervisororouroldestWarrnambool-basedbusiness,andhastakenitfromstrengthtostrength.Steam and Clean is Warrnambool’s premier car detailingbusinessoperatingoutofourpremisesinKoroitSt.Newsignage,anewpickupvehicleandimprovementstostaffamenitieshavemeantthatAidenandhishardworkingstaffhaveensuredthatthefutureofSteamandCleanlooksverybright.
ARTCYCLEThe2014/2015financialyearsawachangeindirectionforourArtcyclebusiness.Thefocusbecamemoreonsourcingmeaningfuljobsforits17employeesandthisapproachhasprovensuccessfulwithitreturningaprofitofover$70,000.AllcreditmustgotoKarenCarterandherfantasticteamforacceptingthechallengeofchasingdownatargetandthenbetteringit.ThisisagreatresultforArtcycleandthoseworkinginit.
CLEAR CUTThisisperhapsourhighestprofileWarrnamboolandTerang based business as it operates around the WesternDistrictandisvisibleonthestreetsmostdays.Wehave5teamsworkingeachdaytokeeplawnsandgardenslookinggreatinbusinessessuchasSouthWestHealthCare,manyschoolsandhundredsofprivatehouses.CongratulationstoheadsupervisorRebelNoter,fellowsupervisorsMattRickard,GaryHetherington,PatDwyerandKevinBourkeaswellasalltheir15enthusiasticandhardworkingsupportedemployees.
FRESH CUT HERBSInitssecondyearofoperation,thisbusinessisshowinggreatgrowthhavingachieved25%abovebudgetforthe2014/2015f/y.MuchcreditmustgotosupervisorMichaelWatersandhishardworkingteamforabloominggreatresult.WheneverwegetvisitorstoourAlbertStsite,itistheherbgardenthatseemsto attract much interest!
NIGRETTA FURNITUREThisyearNigrettaFurniturecelebratesits40thyearofoperationwhichisasignificantachievementinthisadifficultindustry.HeadsupervisorJoshMembrey,secondinchargeGlenJacobsonandtheirteamofcabinetmakersandemployeesproducesomeofthefinestmadehardwoodfurnitureavailableinthemarketplace.Diversificationwillbethekeytogrowingthisbusinessinthecomingfinancialyearand2016willseesomeexcitingnewprojectsontheway.Watch this space!!

WearecurrentlyatfullcapacitywitheightysixsupportedemployeesofwhichfourteenareatSteam&Clean,eighteenatNigrettaHamilton,sixatFreshCutHerbs,fifteenatE-waste,sixteenatClearCutTerang/WarrnamboolandseventeenatArtcycle.
OverthepastyearwehavewelcomedMatthewRickardClearCutTerangSupervisor,AidenMurphySteam&CleanSupervisor,KevinBourkeClearCutWarrnamboolTeamLeader,SamanthaCookAdministrationAssistant,alsoLukePurcellandJamieLynasCarpentersatNigrettaHamilton.
Weareintheprocessofimplementinganewwagesystemthatwillseeusassessalloursupportedemployees,thiswillbecompletedbyOctober.

WDEATrainingisthenewestadoptedmemberoftheWDEAfamilyandhasbeenpartoftheteamfor18months. The past 12 months hasbeenastruggletofindourfeet,notonlyfinancially,butourrolewithintheorganisation. The coming year willseeWDEATraininggrowinanumberofnewareas
fromtheintroductionofIndustryPlus,ourcommunityprogramsandcleardirectionstowherewewanttobebytheendofthenext12months.

AsIndustryPluswasacomponentofthejobactivetender,wearecommittedtogrowingthisprogramthroughallsitesoverthenext12monthsandworkingmorecloselywiththeBDO’sofeachsitetoincreasethisopportunityofsupportingourClientsandStudentsinfindingcareeropportunities.
COMMUNITY WDEATraininghasalsobeencreativeinlocalcommunityprograms.‘FunintheGardens’,‘LibraryStoryTellingdays’,‘Fun4Kids’,AgedCarePamperdaysandSuicidePreventionAwarenessWeekhaveallbroughtwiththemadditionalexposure,notonlytoWDEATraining,buttoWDEAoverall.Overthenext12monthswehopetorunthesecommunityprogramsinall site locations.
STAFFING/ STRUCTUREWDEATraininghasateamof26staffandthiswillcontinuetogrowoverthenext12months.Anewcoordinatorslineinourstaffstructurehasbeenintroduced,withtheintroductionofAreaCoordinatorstomanageeachofourAgedcare,Early Childhood educators and Disability courses. Thishasbeenasuccessfulapproachandprovenasuccess in managing these areas.
