COL Eva (Kris) Calero, US Army Laboratory Manager Clinical Laboratory Sciences Consultant Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Almost there! KnowledgeLab 17 (KL17) CLMA annual venue is taking place next week, Sunday March 26 to Wednesday 29, 2017 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Nashville, TN. I hope to see you there! This is a very quick edition, designed, as it used to be tradition, to orient you to the annual meeting events. You should now think in terms of two schedules, the SAFMLS schedule and then the CLMA schedule. In this edition, you will find both schedules. They are both complementary, and we go to great lengths to plan the hours of the breakouts so you can partake of all CLMA activities while still having time to meet with your service leader to do one on one counseling, etc. Again, use this edition to synchronize both schedules, your schedule, and all available activities. Highlights: There are SAFMLS and CLMA activities on Sunday! Most breakouts run until 1630, followed by a joint CLMS DHA session. Then CLMA has an opening session 6-730 pm followed by an opening reception. YES, THIS IS ON SUNDAY. Please DO visit the vendor’s exhibit hall! VADM Bono, Director, DHA is presenting Wednesday morning. Please do not forget to be there and pro- vide her Service support! SAFMLS meeting will be Wednesday at the conclusion of CLMA. Lunch will be provided. Wednesday afternoon, the different Services are having breakouts again. If you look at the SAFMLS schedule, most activities end Wednesday @ 1630. Please remember you represent the Federal Government and your Service! It has been an honor serving as your President! The new board of directors will be announced at the Wednesday SAFMLS meeting (again, over lunch, lunch provided, hint…hope to see you there). Also, at that time we will announce the SAFMLS award’s winners. There were A LOT of submissions. Amazing! What an honor to be with this group. I will miss this greatly as I pass the torch, but thank you for allowing me to do this. Again, never in my mind would I have ever thought I would serve SAFMLS in this capacity. I have so loved and embraced this organization since I attended SAFMLS for the first time in Spokane, in the mid 90’s. All the best to SAFMLS, continue moving it forward. LtCol Eden’s and my goal was to sustain and improve the “new normal” and maximize attendance/ educational opportunities. The leader- ship growth, mentoring and networking you receive from professional societies like SAFMLS and CLMA is invaluable to each and every one of us. Do your part in keeping professional societies alive. Signing out as President, v/r COL Kris Calero.
