BOY’S & GIRL’S SOCCER By Mr. Joseph

The boys’ and girls’ soccer teams this year had an amazing season. It was full of team-work, self-confidence, respect and achieve-ment. Every player put their competitive nature on display and win or lose they all left it on the field. A special congratulations goes out to the boys for their phenomenal season. Winning 4 games with 1 loss is no easy task, especially after going undefeated last year. They handled the pressure with class. Both teams are looking forward to next year for another tantalizing season.

On Wednesday, April 24th, the Lee SGA conducted SMOB elections. The student member of the board is a high school stu-dent in the 11th or 12th grade that sits on the Montgomery County Board of Educa-tion and represents the interests of the entire student body of Montgomery Coun-ty Schools. The SMOB has a vote equal to those of the seven adult board members. The SMOB also has a vote on issues such as administrative appointments including hiring of the Superintendent of Schools, policy, and the Board of Education’s legis-lative platform. He or she also has a vote in the appeals process including transfers and expulsions. Students at Lee ROCK THE VOTE as over 90% of the school turned out to cast their ballot for the new SMOB. Congratulations to Dahlia Huh who won the 37th election of the SMOB with about 69% of the vote.

Lee MS 8th Graders Learn About the Civil War by Visiting the Maryland Historical Society & Ft McHenry in

Baltimore!

Lee MS 8th graders this past April, had the opportunity to learn more about what was happening in Maryland just before the Civil War by visiting the Maryland Historical So-ciety and Ft McHenry. In the Maryland His-torical Society, there were many exhibits and artifacts from the Civil War period which enhanced the their learning experi-ence. The tour guides also broke the stu-dents into groups where they worked to-gether to answer questions about the Civil War and then had group discussions about different aspects of the war. At Ft McHenry the students learned that just before the Civil War the cannons at the fort were

directed towards the city to ensure that southern sympathizers didn’t start another riot in Baltimore. An added bonus to the tour at Ft McHenry was the opportunity to unravel a replica of the flag that was wav-ing during the British bombardment of Ft McHenry during The War of 1812. The stu-dent also learned Francis Scott Key penned the Star Spangled Banner in the Harbor.

It was a culmination of a great school year and a time to celebrate the suc-cesses of all the wonderful events SGA spon-sored for the school year. This dance was also the last time the 8th graders would have the chance to attend a MS school dance with the 6th and 7th graders.

The Lee MS Music Department under the direc-tion of Ms. Dill and Ms. Hague performed Dis-ney’s Aladdin Jr. the Musical and it was sensa-tional! It was delightful to see Lee students dis-play their talents as singers, dancers, actors, and actresses. They were absolutely stupen-dous and carried themselves on stage like pro-fessionals. The Lee students, teachers, and par-ents came out in droves to support the produc-tion and they were rewarded with a wonderful evening.

The 8th Grade Dinner Dance was a Blast!

On Thursday evening, May 29th, the 8th grade kicked of their end of the school year activities with the Dinner Dance. The 8th graders didn't disappoint. They were definitely dressed to impress for their special evening. It was a time for them to spend quality time with each other before everyone goes to their respective high schools this upcoming school year. The dinner dance is also a time to celebrate a successful three years spent at Lee MS. The dinner was great due to the fact that it was catered by Maggiano’s, an Italian restaurant. After dinner, it was time to party to the sounds of Mr. J, who kept the party live until it was time to go home. Special thanks go out to the 8th grade team who worked hard to make this evening a mem-orable one for the students.
