INTERNSHIPS

The Internships at COINED give the possibility to gain work experience by doing an internship

in a foreign country. Our cooperation with distinguished partners and companies enable us to

offer this program which covers all relevant types of university careers.

1. Search for Internships

Participants can choose between a Standard Internship and a Customized Internship in the following countries: Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Spain.

COINED offers a variety of Internship areas in which Participants can be placed according to their interests, studies, previous work experience, and/or future career path.

Participants must list three different main choice areas. Provided that Participants fulfill the Program requirements, we place every Participant in an Internship that is as close as possible to their original requests. However, please keep in mind that while we will try to place students within their first choice area, we will utilize second and third choices if and when necessary, and will often use a combination of all three.

2. COINED Quality Guarantee

We are constantly improving the quality of our Internships Program as regards the monitoring and following-up of all our Internship placements.

COINED contacts all interns two weeks before their arrival and provides them with a virtual information package with all the necessary information about their placement as well as the country and city in which they will be interning.

COINED organizes several workshops for the Participants upon their arrival at the place in which they will be working, in order to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead.

COINED offers monthly activities for all the Participants in the Internship Program. COINED has expanded the functions of its local tutors and therefore, established

regular office hours so that Participants can talk to their tutor about any concern they may have.

COINED offers a complete Internship Package, which includes Spanish language

courses, transfer from and to the airport as well as high-quality accommodation. APPLY

1. Requirements

Age: 18 - 35. Minimum education: university or college degree (bachelor’s degree). Personal characteristics: flexibility, adaptability, sense of responsibility, and sensitivity

towards other cultures, ways of life and conceptions of work. Willingness to contribute to the Host Organization’s activities and to integrate into the

daily life of the host country. Commitment to respect the regulations of the program and the rules and protocol of

the host organization or company. Commitment to the agreed start and end dates of the program. A High Beginner level of Spanish. A minimum commitment of 8 weeks. Health insurance.

IMPORTANT: If the Participant has not reached the required level of Spanish, he or she will be asked to take an Intensive Spanish Language Course before the beginning of the Program.

2. Participant’s Application

The number of Internship posts is limited. Participants should therefore state at least three alternative posts in which they would like to make their Internship. START

From the beginning of your Program you will have access to the following services:

COINED tutor who offers support and assistance whenever needed 24-hour emergency telephone number Workshop on cultural differences, including how to make one’s Internship period

successful Monthly meetings with other international Participants Regular follow-ups during the whole internship period Internationally recognized certificate upon the successful completion of the Internship Handbook

COINED Internships start every Monday throughout the year*. The minimum length of an Internship is two months, while the maximum length in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica and Guatemala is 12 months and 6 months in Spain. *Restrictions: Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica and Guatemala

Internships in Law Firms: available from March to November, not available in December, January and February, with a break in July.

Internships in Educational area: available from March to November, with a two-week break in July (winter vacation), not available in December, January or February.

Internships in Health area: the activities of the Participant will be limited to observing local staff. Under no circumstances the Participant will be able to work without supervision even if he or she has a medical degree (title of doctor, nurse, paramedic, etc.) from his or her home country. However, the intern will be able to directly interact with the patients.

Spain Internships in Educational area: available from September to May, not available in June, July and August. Internships in Economy’s area: available throughout the year except in August.

1. FINANCE

Gain real world experience and put your financing skills to the test taking a professional Internship in the finances field.

The Finance department aids the rest of departments in making the best financial decision. It generally involves balancing risk and profitability, while attempting to maximize an entity's wealth and the value of its stock.

1.1. SUB-AREA: AUDIT

On this position you will perform tasks to ascertain the validity and reliability of information; also to provide an assessment of a system's internal control. You will seek to provide only reasonable assurance that the statements are free from material error.

JOB DESCRIPTION: You will be carrying out tasks such as:

Planning of audits.

Collaborating in the developing of audits.

Information organization.

Analyzing information.

Controlling and verifying documents.

Developing informs.

Administration tasks.

1.2. SUB-AREA: ACCOUNTING

On an Internship in accounting you will record, classify and summarize numerical information in a significant manner and in terms of money, transactions and events which are, in part at least, of financial character, and interpret the results thereof.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Developing, controlling and verifying documents.

Developing and updating the financial situation of the company.

Developing management reports.

Budgeting for departments.

Financial planning.

Investment analysis.

Administration tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

Advanced student in Accounting or careers related to the topic.

Have strong numerical and analytical skills.

Organizational and problem solving skills.

Handle MS Office, especially Excel.

2. DESIGN

This area usually implies a conscious effort to create something that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Whether in Fashion Design, Interior Design or Graphic Design you will be involved in problem-solving and creativity.

Internship projects on this area are based on the organization’s needs and requirements and are assigned to you according to your skills and interests. If you are creative and proactive a Design Internship is the best decision.

2.1. SUB-AREA: FASHION DESIGN On a Fashion design internship you will take care of the application of design and aesthetics to clothing and accessories. Designs attempt to satisfy consumer desire for aesthetically designed clothing; and, because of the time required to bring a garment onto the market, you must at times anticipate changing consumer tastes.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Collaborating in conceiving garment combinations of line, proportion, color, and texture.

Coordinating the clothes, jewelry, and accessories used in shop windows, fashion photography and catwalk presentations.

Searching for information about the market trends.

Administrative tasks.

Other duties could be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Creativity, flexibility and proactivity.

Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellent social skills.

2.2. SUB-AREA: INTERIOR DECORATION

On an Interior decoration department you will perform tasks in a multi-faceted line of work in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment. This includes research, analysis, and integration of knowledge into the creative process, whereby the needs and resources of the client are satisfied to produce an interior space that fulfills the project goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Collaborating in space planning or "layout".

Meeting with clients to determine their wants and needs.

Preparing and assisting in proposed room layouts.

Selecting and purchasing furnishings and other items.

Administrative tasks.

Creativity, flexibility and proactivity.

Detail oriented.

Excellent social skills.

2.3. SUB-AREA: GRAPHIC DESIGN

On a graphic design internship you will work on an artistic and professional discipline, focusing on visual communication and presentation. The graphic design internships include activities such as proposing logos or other artwork, organized text and pure design elements such as shapes and color which unify the piece.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Stylization and presentation of existing text and either preexisting imagery.

Team-working with photographers or illustrators to create original pieces just to be incorporated into the design layout.

Collaboration with Web graphic design.

Administrative tasks.

Other duties could be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Creativity, flexibility and proactivity.

Detail oriented.

Advanced computer skills.

Handle Design software’s.

3. LAW

With an internship in this area you will be involved in the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific individualized problems, or to advance the interests of those who retain lawyers to perform legal services.

Internship projects on this area are based on the organization’s needs and requirements and will be assigned to you according to your skills and interests.

3.1. SUB-AREA: PUBLIC On an Internships in Public Law you will perform tasks related to governing the relationship between individuals (citizens, companies) and the State; in subdivisions such as constitutional law, administrative law and criminal law.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Legal issues research.

Assisting in document preparation and case management.

Collaborating in the mediation between parts.

Administrative tasks.

Other duties could be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Advanced students in Law.

4. ENGINEERING

This area usually involves acquiring and applying technical, scientific, and mathematical knowledge to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems, and that safely realize a desired objective or invention.

Internship projects on this area are based on the organization’s needs and requirements and are assigned to you according to skills and interests. If you are looking to gain real-world experience, an Engineering Internship is the best decision.

4.1. SUB-AREA: INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING

On an Industrial Engineering internship you will work optimizing complex processes or systems. You will perform tasks related to the development, improvement, implementation and evaluation of integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials and/or processes. If you have analytical skills and like to work in teams, this is the internship field for you!

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Analyzing manufacturing process predictability, manufacturing flow, and costs.

Process improvement planning.

Collecting and analyzing data.

Identifying improvements in methods which will increase output or quality.

Developing ways to achieve effective utilization of materials, personnel,

equipment, and financial resources.

Administrative tasks.

4.2. SUB-AREA: CIVIL ENGINEERING

On a Civil Engineering internship you will perform tasks related to the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineering internships take place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal to

federal levels, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Assisting in design and planning of various structures.

Analyzing populations, infrastructures, capacity, and existing systems, and well as organizing resources.

Evaluating and recommending materials.

Monitoring project progress and handle challenges

Implementing maintenance procedures and follow-up

This area is usually concerned in maintaining public image for high-profile people, commercial businesses and organizations, non-profit associations or programs. It implies managing communication between an organization and its public.

Internship projects on this area are based on the organization’s needs and requirements and are assigned to you according to your skills and interests. If you are looking to gain real-world experience, a Public Relations Internship is the best decision.

5.1. SUB- AREA: EVENT MANAGEMENT

On an event management internship you will be involved in the creation and development of festivals, events and conferences.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Maintaining contact with other organizations.

Studying the intricacies of a brand.

Identifying the target audience.

Devising the event concept.

Planning the logistics and coordinating the technical aspects before actually executing

the modalities of the proposed event.

Post-event analysis.

On an internship in this area you will perform tasks related to the organized effort made by an institution in order to convey the identity and the values of the institution.

Researching and analyzing information for the development of a diagnosis of institutional image.

Communication planning.

Designing communication process.

On a sales internship you will be performing tasks related to managing the policies and strategies used to sell by using all available relationships and techniques. This department has a direct relationship with the financial well being of the company. It is completely excluded in this area all the jobs related with selling activities or customer care service.

6.1. SUB-AREA: COMMERCE

On a commerce internship you will be planning and carrying out direct marketing and sales activities in accordance with agreed business plans. Put your skills to the test on this fascinating area!

JOB DESCRIPTION: You will be carrying out tasks such as:

Maintaining and developing a computerized customer and prospect database.

Maintaining and developing existing and new customers through planned individual account support, and liaison with internal order-processing staff.

Carrying out market research, competitor and customer surveys.

Backoffice activities.

Administrative tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

Self-driven, results-oriented.

6.2. SUB-AREA: INTERNATIONAL TRADE

The International Trade internships refer to the exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or territories, usually related to the follow up of exported goods or services and international market research.

JOB DESCRIPTION: You will be carrying out tasks such as:

Preparing and validating documentation for shipping goods and products.

Verifying applications for licenses to ship to other countries, based on either the customer profile or other information acquired from the customer.

Calculating value of duties and tariffs due on transported equipment.

Preparing information to be sent to the customer on any fees due.

Administrative tasks.

Other duties could be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Foreign language skills. Specially: English, Spanish or Portuguese.

Analytical skills to evaluate market reports, trade statistics and other quantitative information.

Should be able to work as part of a team.

Skill in assessing customers, competitors and potential partners and differentiating serious prospects from a large number of business contacts.

This area usually involves managing the flow of goods, information and other resources between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet the requirements of consumers. Also may imply the integration of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material handling, packaging and occasionally security.

Internship projects on this area are based on the organization’s needs and requirements and are assigned to you according to your skills and interests.

7.1. SUB-AREA: PURCHASE AND SUPPLY

On a purchase and supply internship you will perform activities related to all the activities of acquiring goods or services to accomplish the goals of the enterprise.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Researching about potential suppliers. Evaluating and controlling suppliers. Defining purchasing requirements. Analyzing quotation. Negotiating with suppliers and internal clients. Stocks control. Administrative tasks. Other duties could be assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Team player. Strong numerical and analytical skills. Work under pressure. Negotiation skills. Flexibility. Handle MS Office, especially Excel. Previous experience, though helpful, is not required.

7.2. SUB-AREA: TRANSPORT AND DISTRIBUTION

Internships in this area include planning, implementing and controlling the processes, so that the goods reach users in a timely manner at the lowest possible cost.

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Controlling and coordinating orders. Maintaining contact with suppliers and clients. Dealing with transport issues. Coordinating deadlines. Warehouse maintenance. Stocks control. Administrative tasks. Other duties could be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Team player. Work under pressure. Organization, planning and analytical skills. Negotiation skills. Flexibility. Handle MS Office, especially Excel. Previous experience, though helpful, is not required.

8. MEDIA

This area usually implies keeping the citizenship informed and entertained by covering different aspects of the community like government, business, social, culture and entertainment among others.

Internship projects on this area are based on the organization’s needs and requirements and are assigned to you according to your skills and interests.

8.1. SUB –AREA: AUDIOVISUAL

The Audiovisual area of the organizations which COINED works with usually refers to assisting the producers and the production staff with all aspects of production. They answer phones, schedule meetings, copy and deliver scripts. They perform a wide range of activities, according to their qualifications (production area, photography and art, sound, camera, scripts, edition, etc.) Interns in the Audiovisual area act as a link in the production team assisting the director or producer and are involved in all stages of the production process (from pre-production to post-production and transmission) to ensure production runs smoothly.

JOB DESCRIPTION: intern will be carrying out tasks such as:

Attending and timing rehearsals, overseeing timings during a shoot or show, and

cutting pre-recorded material.

Organizing the production and distribution of scripts as well as typing up camera scripts and shot cards.

Working closely with the producer, director and production team by attending and coordinating planning meetings.

Administrative tasks.

Other duties could be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Excellent communication skills with a wide range of groups.

A keen eye for design and creativity.

Motivated, self-starter who is able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

8.2. SUB-AREA: PUBLISHING

An Internship in publishing will allow you to research and write stories for publication in local, regional and national press, as well as writing ‘platform neutral’ pieces, which will appear in print, online and in broadcast form.

You will perform a wide range of activities, according to your qualifications (journalism, photography and art, edition, graphic design, etc.)

JOB DESCRIPTION: you will be carrying out tasks such as:

Seeking out and investigating stories via your contacts, press releases and other media.

Attending a variety of events, such as council meetings, magistrates' court proceedings, football matches, talent contests, etc;
