Cohesive model for crack propagation analyses of structures with elastic–plastic material behavior Foundations and implementation Ingo Scheider GKSS research center Geesthacht, Dept. WMS April 2001 Abstract In this document the cohesive model, a phenomenological model for crack propagation anal- yses, is presented. An implementation of the model exists at GKSS for several years and is developed steadily, therefore the foundations are explained first, and details specific to the ac- tual implementation as a user defined element within the FE system ABAQUS are described afterwards. The actual paper describes the implemented version of the user subroutine, which con- tains traction-separation-laws of Needleman, [Needleman, 1990], which is used for example in [Siegmund and Brocks, 1998]), [Tvergaard, 1990] and Scheider, [Scheider, 2001a], used also in [Scheider, 2001b]. A guide for the practical use of the cohesive model and the determination of the material parameters is outside the scope of this document and will be published in a separate paper.
