Tips from Your Local PGA Proat Ledene Golf Centre
Make Your Practice Time On The Range More Productive
As winter arrives, more of your golf practice will take place on the driving range. During our free golf tips evenings at Ledene which run from November to March, Novembers dates being Monday 12th and Wednesday 28th,(all Codsall Pages readers welcome). (check website for future dates www.ledenegolf.co.uk) I have noticed many range users will choose any club and hit balls randomly, so I thought this month we could incorporate a routine to your practice session and make the time spent on the range more productive.
1. Firstly a few stretches, to loosen muscles especially in the cold weather. A popular stretching exercise using your golf club would be to hold the club behind your upper back, gripping either end of the club, rotate body to the right as you would when taking a swing, then rotate back to the left, keeping your lower body still. Side Bends Hold club with hands wider than the shoulders, raise club above the head, arms straight, lean to the right as far as you comfortably can feeling the stretch on the left side of your body, repeat on the other side.2. Try to incorporate the same pre-shot routine that you would use on the course in to your practice session on the range. Taking note of the basic fundamentals of your golf swing like your grip, posture, and your body alignment and always look to aim at a specific target on the range.3. Begin with wedges/short irons, hitting about 20 balls. Then repeat with long irons, then finally working your way up to your fairway woods and driver.4. Now work your way back through your clubs, so after your driver and fairway woods, go back to long irons, short irons and finally to wind down your practice session a few wedges to finish off with.
When golf courses are closed during the winter due to adverse weather conditions, the driving range gives you the ideal opportunity to keep practicing during the winter months which will help you to maintain the consistency and timing of your golf swing. It also helps you to become familiar with your clubs and understand how your clubs work for you. By using the yardage markers on the range you can assess how far you hit each club. ( Especially for those who own a range finder). When using your driver or fairway woods try to envisage hitting down a fairway by using the different markers on the range. Hopefully this will help your practice sessions be more constructive and enjoyable and will lead to lower scores when you eventually get back on the golf course.

A Word From Your MPSometimes politics is really frustrating. You begin with a clear idea of what you want to achieve and then an authority gets in your way. People sometimes ask what the point is in bothering if you are unlikely to achieve anything but I always disagree as without fighting you will never achieve anything so you have nothing to lose by trying. Recently I have been raising residents concerns over the proposed plans for a new fire station for Codsall and Bilbrook. I am sorry to say this but the current plans can only be described as grotesque, vulgar and out of character with our area. When I met with the architect to discuss the plans he told me the idea was to create a family of fire stations that all fit in with one another. However, in getting a design for similar buildings in Stoke on Trent, Burton, and Codsall you end up with something suitable for no one. The fire station also looks over into nearby properties. When challenged the architect told me it was good enough for Manchester. I pointed out that it wasn’t good enough for us, we’re not Manchester, we haven’t got plans to be Manchester and we certainly don’t want architectural facsimiles from Manchester in our village.Despite these complaints, and the objections of residents the plans are currently going ahead. I find this quite wrong and believe that this will create an eyesore which is especially upsetting as the Fire Service go out of their way to be considerate to their neighbours on a daily basis.I will continue to fight these plans and I have arranged a meeting with the Chief Fire Officer to make everyone’s views quite plain as this building should be more sympathetic to its surrounds. As the saying goes - it’s not over until the fat lady sings - but in this case I’ll be looking to the Chief Fire Officer. My Grandfather used to point out that common sense is not all that common but hopefully it will prevail and I will continue to push the case for as long as necessary. Owens Carpets LtdSince it's inception in 1996 Owens Carpets has taken the lead in what was already a saturated retail area, and forged a niche service which has been greatly valued. Director Owen Lloyd appreciates the tough economic climate but is revelling in it's challenge ' for twenty five years the carpet trade has been a very competitive Market place but I have always believed there was a place for a first class carpet supplier offering a more personable service. A service offering the complete package, actually being able to see the samples within your own home before ordering and being afforded the time to mull over before choosing the actual floor covering is of great importance. The business has been developed by Owen and his fitting team to now offer the complete new carpet experience. Once the customer has selected their favourite new carpet/cushion flooring, then an unbeatable quotation is supplied, a suitable/ flexible fitting time is agreed upon. On the day of fitting Owens Carpets will remove/ replace , very carefully of course, any / all of the customers furniture. The existing old carpet can then be uplifted and disposed of whilst trimming any tight door bottoms. Of course then the new carpet can be expertly installed by the fully experienced fitters. 'Our aim is always customer focused, we simply offer the whole package, from start to installation'. Choosing you new carpet transforms your home more than any other item so we endeavour to make the experience as pleasurable as possible.'Treating yourself and your home to a beautiful new carpet is a great thing to do and we will reach and surpass our customer expectations'. Owen says 'It has taken many years to forge relationships with the countries leading wholesale groups and also keeping our overheads as low as possible by operating without the need for expensive retail premises has been the key to our success'.'We can now offer the lowest prices possible , and have also embraced the challenge to keep up to date with all the latest carpet technology, including the best underlays to offer but I a convinced that we now have the best advice and service available on the market'.
