Baby Horace III was designed by George Crouch for Horace Dodge in 1924 and originally had a 550 hp Packard 12 cylinder engine. Typhoon was an other George Crouch design, built in 1929 for Edsel Ford. This ten person boat made daily trips from the Ford family estate on Lake Saint Clair to the Rouge River factory at speeds up to 60 mph. Miss America X was designed by Nap Lisee in 1932 for owner/builder Gar Wood. Powered by four Packard super charged engines, she won the 1932 and 1933 Harmsworth race & set a long standing world record of 124 mph! Dixie II was designed by Clinton Crane & built in 1908 by the Wood boatyard. She won the Gold Cup & the Harmsworth Trophy averaging 32 mph. Miss England was built by the British Power Boat Company in 1928 for Major Hane Segrave. Without the engine, the boat weighed less than 1,100 pounds. In 1929, she unsuccessfully challenged Miss America VII for the water speed record. The 1930 run about & the 1940 barrelback were built by the Chris Craft Co. The run about was marketed as a “gentle man’s craft” & reached speeds of 35 mph. The barrelbacks achieved 50 mph as “family outing” boats. Designed and built by Carlos Riva, the Ariston and Aquarama were built in the 1950’s and 60’s in Italy and reached speeds up to 50 mph. 12720-05
