Shakers

Did you know that…

…A somewhat distant pre descendant to the cocktail shaker can be traced as far back as 7000 BC in South America! The

cocktail shaker as we know it today was however first introduced in the late 19th century. It is said that an inn keeper tended to

mix drinks by pouring them back and forth between two cups, and when realizing that the mouth of the smaller cup fit in the

other, he held them together and shook, mostly as a means to entertain his guests. There are three main styles of shakers; the two

part Boston Shaker which generally requires additional strainers. The three part Cobbler Shaker which is ideal for the Japanese

Hard Shake. And at last, the Parisian or French Shaker which consists of a tin with a short cup shaped top tin which always calls for

a separate strainer.

Bar Spoons

It was…

…During the latter half of the 13th century that the sucket, a type of bar spoon with a fork at one end, first made an appearance

in Germany.

It was common back then to always carry a set of tableware with you, in the same way modern time bartenders will always carry

their bar tools with them.

The ancestor to the flat end bar spoon is the apothecary spoon, which in the 18th century came in handy in order to dissolve

crystallized or coarsely powdered medicines, similar to how we will nowadays crush a sugar cube with the muddler end of the spoon. The typical bar spoon measure should be 5ml, the same as that of a teaspoon.

Jiggers

The name "jigger" originated from…

…The word for a shot of liquor, and its standard measure was 1.5oz. Traditionally, the other side of the jigger would measure a

"pony" which was a slightly smaller shot measuring just 1oz. These days, you will find all different sizes, shapes and materials. No

matter what style of bartending you adopt at your establishment, you are guaranteed to find your perfect set of jiggers right here!

Glasses

Before…

…The commercial mixing glass made an appearance on the market, you were probably using your Boston glass when stirring your

Manhattan's and Martini's. Again, we have the Japanese to thank for commercializing exquisitely designed designated mixing

glasses. Our selection below include the traditional "Yarai" designs, which refers to the traditional weaved pattern at the base of

the glass which provides a more secure grip.

Strainers

The first…

…Version of the Julep strainer was produced in the mid 1800's and at the time, was a multi purpose tool used to strain drinks,

spoon ice or for culinary purposes. The Hawthorne Strainer followed closely when it first appeared in the late 19th century. There

are several theories as to how the first strainer was given its name "Julep" strainer, since the most common juleps do not call for a

strainer at all. Some would say that the strainer was placed on top of the julep cup to stop ice from touching the drinker's teeth, or

the liquid from wetting his moustache. Our selection includes some classic julep strainers as well as both two and four prong

Hawthorne strainers.

Bitters Bottle

For as long as…

…Cocktails have been shaken and stirred, bitters have been an essential ingredient. Interestingly enough, until 2004 there were

but three commercial brands on the market. Today, not only will you come across an array of commercial brands on every back

bar, but you will also often find the bartender's home made concoctions. Originally consumed in mouthfuls as a medicine, every

bartender will still recommend a tall glass of soda with dashes of bitter to cure most ailments.

Ice Picks

You may have heard this before…

…But ice is the key ingredient in almost every cocktail! Depending on the shape and size of your ice, your cocktail will reveal

different flavor characteristics and

dilute at the exact rate that you have intended. The ice sphere has grown very popular amongst bars around the globe, mostly

because it allows you to enjoy a drink for longer, without the ice diluting it, thereby keeping your cocktail sharp. To hand carve an

ice ball using specially designed ice picks from our range is a skillful performance which will bring a whole different level of

entertainment and flair to your bar!
