Summer Tips for Georgia – 1st week of July
FIRST WEEK: Choosing a watermelon for the Fourth? Slap it to determine ripeness. Good ones sound hollow; unripe ones sound like you’re hitting solid wood.
Regularly remove faded flowers from sal-via, zinnia, coneflower and especially pe-tunia. This will encourage bushiness and the production of more flowers.
Remove all stems that support faded flowers on your blue and pink hydran-geas; shorten droopy, flowerless stems by one-third. The new growth that occurs between now and winter will produce next summer’s blooms. See Pruning Hy-drangeas
There is still plenty of time to plant seed of marigold, cosmos, cleome and dwarf sunflower. They’ll make a spectacular flower show in six weeks.
Support tall flower stems prone to flop over after a rain. Use a thin stick or a length of bamboo and some jute twine to tie the plant upright..
For sale items.........
Remember if you have items you want us to post for you we will......Just let us know....
The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public fireworks show put on by professionals. Stay at least 500 feet away from the show. Check out the activities on this page for great events
Our community follows state and county laws on the use of fireworks; make sure you know all the appropriate laws before you use any home fire-works during the 4th.
PET SAFETY;
More pets get lost on July 4th than any other day of the year. Keep your pet safe this Independence Day.
• Be sure your pet is wearing an up-to-date and visible ID tag.
• Take a current photo of your pet just in case.
• Exercise your pet early in the day before festivi-ties begin.
• Keep charcoal, fireworks, sparklers, and glow sticks away from pets.
• Never use fireworks around pets.
