radio will give you years oftrouble-free service if cared for properly. Here area few suggestions:
• Handle the radio gently.
• Keep it away from dust.
• Never put the radio in water or in a damp place.

Charger and RechargeableBatteriesTo Insert Batteries inRadio:
1. Remove belt clip byreleasing belt clip latch andsliding clip up.
2. Pull up on lock tab toremove battery cover (onback of radio).
3. Insert batteries according topolarity markings.

Each port can charge one radio. Uses 230-volt adaptor.
Cobra recommends your radio is turned Off while
being charged.
Radio Power
To Turn Your Radio On:
Press and hold theMODE/POWER button untilyou hear a series of audible
tones indicating that the radiois On.
Your microTALK® radio is now in LISTENING MODE,ready to receive transmissions. The radio is alwaysin LISTENING MODE, except when the TALK, CALLor MODE buttons are pressed.
To Turn Your Radio Off:
– Press and hold the POWER button.
Battery Low Indicator
When battery power is low,the BATTERY LOW indicatorwill blink, indicating that batteries should be rechargedor replaced.
WARNING: Only the supplied NiMH batteries can be recharged.
Battery/Power Saver
If there are no transmissionswithin 10 seconds, the unit will automatically switch toBattery Save Mode andPOWER SAVER will appear inthe display. This will not affect the unit’s abilityto receive incoming transmissions.
Communicating with Another Person
1. Press and hold the TALKbutton.
2. With the microphone about 5 cm (2 inches) from your
mouth, speak in a normalvoice.
3. Release the button whenyou have finished talkingand listen for a response.
You cannot receive incomingcalls while pressing the TALK button.
NOTE: Both radios must be tuned to the same channel and privacy code to communicate.
Release the TALK button toreceive incoming transmissions.Your microTALK® is always inLISTENING MODE except whenthe TALK, CALL or MODEbuttons are pressed.
To Adjust Volume
Press the VOLUME UP or theVOLUME DOWN buttons.
A double beep sound is used toindicate that you have reachedthe minimum (1) or maximum(8) volume level.
Call Button
Press and release the CALLbutton.
The other person will hear atwo (2) second ringing tone.You cannot receive transmissions while sending a
call.NOTE: Both radios must be tuned to the same
channel and privacy code to communicate.

To Illuminate Display
Press and release theLIGHT/MAX RANGE button toilluminate the display for 10seconds.
Auto Squelch/Maximum Range Extender
Your microTALK® radio is equipped with AutoSquelch, which automatically shuts off weak
transmissions and unwanted noise resulting fromterrain, conditions, or from reaching yourmaximum range limit.
You can temporarily turn Off Auto Squelch or turnOn Maximum Range Extender, allowing all signalsto be received and extending the maximum rangeof your radio.
To Temporarily Turn Off Auto Squelch:– Press the LIGHT/MAXRANGE button for less thanfive (5) seconds.
If you hear two (2) beeps,you have turned theMaximum Range Extender On(see below).
Channels
With the radio ON, select anyof the 8 channels by pushingthe CHANNEL UP or CHANNELDOWN button.
You can press and hold theCHANNEL UP or CHANNELDOWN button for fast advance.
NOTE: Both radios must be tuned to the same channel and privacy code (see “CTCSS Privacy Codes” or “DCS Privacy Codes”) to communicate.
Lock Function
The LOCK button locks the CHANNEL UP, CHANNELDOWN, and MODE/POWER buttons to prevent accidental operation.
To Use the Lock Function:
– Press and hold the LOCKbutton for two (2) secondsto turn the Lock On or Off.
A double beep sound is used toconfirm your Lock On or Offrequest. When the radio is inLock Mode, the Lock icon willbe displayed.
To Turn Maximum Range Extender On:
– Press and hold the LIGHT/MAX RANGE buttonfor at least five (5) seconds until you hear two(2) beeps, indicating that the Maximum RangeExtender is On.
To Turn Maximum Range Extender Off:
– Press and release the LIGHT/MAX RANGEbutton or change channels.
microTALK ® Range
Your microTALK® radio has a range of up to 5kilometres (3 miles). Your range will varydepending on terrain and conditions.
In flat, open country, yourradio will operate at
maximum range.Buildings and foliage in thepath of the signal canreduce the range.
Dense foliage and hillyterrain will further reducethe signal.
Remember, you can achievemaximum range by usingMaximum Range Extender.See above for details.

To Select a CTCSS Privacy Code:
1. After selecting a channel,press and release theMODE button until theCTCSS icon flashes on thedisplay. In addition to theCTCSS icon, either OFF orthe small numbers next tothe channel number will
also flash on the display.2. If CTCSS and OFF areflashing, press the CHANNELUP or CHANNEL DOWNbutton to exit OFF andproceed to select a privacycode. Or, if CTCSS and thesmall numbers next to the
channel number areflashing, press the CHANNELUP or CHANNEL DOWN button to select aprivacy code.
3. When your desired privacy code is displayed,choose one of the following:a. Press the MODE button to enter the new
setting and proceed to other functions.b. Press the LOCK button to enter the newsetting and return to LISTENING MODE.
c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds toenter the new setting and return toLISTENING MODE.
Scrolling Through the ModeFunctions
By scrolling through the Mode Functions, you willbe able to select or change preferred features ofyour microTALK® radio. While you are scrollingthrough the Mode Functions, your radio featureswill be displayed in the same predetermined order:
an advanced tone coding system allowing you toselect one of 38 privacy codes to reduce incomingtransmissions from other users on the channel.
NOTE: If you are using a CTCSS privacy code, both radios must be tuned to the same channel and CTCSS privacy code to communicate.Each channel will remember the last privacy code you selected.
DCS Privacy Codes
DCS (Digital Coded Squelch) isan advanced digital codingsystem allowing you to select one of 83 privacy codes toreduce incoming transmissionsfrom other users on thechannel.
NOTE: If you are using a DCS code, both radios must be tuned to the same channel and DCS privacy code to communicate.Each channel will remember the last privacy code you selected.
To Select a DCS Privacy Code:
1. After selecting a channel,press and release the MODE button until theDCS icon flashes on the display. In addition tothe DCS icon, either OFF or the small numbers
next to the channel number will also flash onthe display.
2. If the DCS and OFF are flashing, press theCHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWN button to exit OFF and proceed to select a privacy code. Or, ifDCS and the small numbers next to thechannel number are flashing, press the
CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWN buttonto select a privacy code.
3. When your desired privacy code is displayed,choose one of the following:a. Press the MODE button to enter the new
setting and proceed to other functions.b. Press the LOCK button to enter the new
setting and return to LISTENING MODE.c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds to
enter the new setting and return toLISTENING MODE.
Voice Activated Transmit (VOX)
In VOX Mode, your microTALK® radio can be used“hands-free,” automatically transmitting when youspeak. You can set the VOX sensitivity level to fit the volume of your voice and avoid transmissionstriggered by background noise.
To Turn VOX Mode On orOff:
1. Press the MODE button untilthe VOX icon flashes on thedisplay. The current On orOff setting is displayed.
2. Press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button toturn VOX On or Off.
3. When your desired VOXMode setting is displayed,choose one of thefollowing:

Channel Scan
Your microTALK® radio can automatically scanchannels (1 to 8).
NOTE: The radio ignores specific CTCSS or DCS privacy codes while scanning channels.
To Scan Channels:
1. Press the MODE button untilthe Scan icon and thechannel number flash onthe display.
2. Press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button tobegin scanning channels.
The Scan icon will continue tobe displayed when channelscan is On. Your radio willcontinue to scan all channels
and stop if an incomingtransmission is detected. Yourradio will remain on that channel for 10 seconds.
While setting channel scan, if you do not pressany buttons for 15 seconds your radio willautomatically return to LISTENING MODE on thechannel or channel/privacy code displayed beforeyou entered Mode Functions.
a. Press the MODE button to enter the new
setting and proceed to other functions.b. Press the LOCK button to enter the new
setting and return to LISTENING MODE.
c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds toenter the new setting and return toLISTENING MODE.
To Set the VOX Sensitivity Level:
1. Press the MODE button untilthe VOX icon flashes andthe current sensitivity levelis displayed.
The current sensitivity level is displayed with the letter “L” and a number 1 to 5, 5 being
the most sensitive level and 1being the least sensitive level.
2. Press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button tochange the setting.
3. When your desired VOXsensitivity level is displayed,choose one of thefollowing:a. Press the MODE button to enter the new
setting and proceed to other functions.
b. Press the LOCK button to enter the newsetting and return to LISTENING MODE.
c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds toenter the new setting and return to
LISTENING MODE.
During An Incoming Transmission,
You Can Choose From The Following:a. Press and hold the TALK button to
communicate on that channel. Your radio willremain on that channel and return toLISTENING MODE.
b. Press the CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWNbutton to resume scanning channels.
If you press the TALK button while scanning andnot within 10 seconds of receiving a transmission,you will transmit on the channel on which you last received a transmission. This will return the radioto LISTENING MODE.
If you do not press any button within 10 seconds,your radio will automatically resume scanning
channels.During Scanning (while not receivinga transmission), You Can Choose FromThe Following:
a. Press and hold the TALK button tocommunicate on either the channel orchannel/privacy code that was displayedbefore you entered Mode Functions or thechannel on which, during scanning, you last received a transmission. This will return theradio to LISTENING MODE.
b. Press the MODE button to proceed to set privacy code on the channel that was eitherdisplayed before you entered Mode Functionson which, during scanning, you last received a
transmission (see “CTCSS Privacy Code Scan”or “DCS Privacy Code Scan” for further details).
c. Press the LOCK button to return toLISTENING MODE on either the channel orchannel/privacy code that was displayed
before you entered Mode Functions or thechannel on which, during scanning, you last transmitted or received.
CTCSS Privacy Code ScanYour microTALK® radio can automatically scanthe CTCSS privacy codes (01 to 38) within one(1) channel.
To Scan Privacy Codes:1. While in LISTENING MODE,
press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button tochoose the channel onwhich you wish to scan theCTCSS privacy codes.

You can automatically scan the DCS privacy codes(01 to 83) within one channel.
The Scan icon will continue to be displayed when
CTCSS privacy code scan is On. Your radio willcontinue to scan CTCSS privacy codes and stop asan incoming transmission is detected. Your radiowill remain on that channel/privacy code for 10seconds.
While setting CTCSS privacy code scan, if you donot press any buttons for 15 seconds your radio
will automatically return to LISTENING MODE onthe channel/privacy code that was displayedbefore you entered Mode Functions.
During An Incoming Transmission, You Can Choose From The Following:
a. Press and hold the TALK button tocommunicate on that channel/privacy code.Your radio will remain on that channel/privacy code and returnto LISTENING MODE.
b. Press the CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWNbutton to resume scanning CTCSS privacycodes.

MODE, press the CHANNELUP or CHANNEL DOWNbutton to choose thechannel on which you wishto scan the DCS privacy
codes.2. Press the MODE button untilthe SCAN icon, DCS iconand the small numbers next to the channel number flashon the display.
3. Press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button tobegin scanning DCS privacycodes within the channelyou selected.
The scan icon will continue tobe displayed when DCS privacycode scan is ON. Your radio will continue to scanDCS privacy codes and stop when an incoming
transmission is detected. The radio will remain onthat channel/privacy code for 10 seconds.While setting DCS privacy code scan, if you do not press any buttons for 15 seconds your radio willautomatically return to LISTENING MODE on thechannel/privacy code that was displayed beforeyou entered more functions.
During Scanning (While Receiving anIncoming Transmission), You Can Choosefrom the Following:
a. Press and hold the TALK button tocommunicate on that channel/privacy code.Your radio will remain on that channel/privacy code and return toLISTENING MODE.
b. Press the CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWNbutton to resume scanning DCS privacy
codes.If you press the TALK button while scanning andnot within 10 seconds of receiving a transmission,you will transmit on the channel/privacy code onwhich you last received a transmission. This willreturn the radio to LISTENING MODE.During Scanning (While Not Receivingan Incoming Transmission), You CanChoose from the Following:
a. Press channel/privacy code that wasdisplayed before you entered ModeFunctions or channel/privacy code on which,during scanning, you last received atransmission. This will return the radio to theLISTENING MODE. Press and hold the TALK
button to communicate on either thechannel or channel MODE.b. Press the MODE button to proceed to next
available Mode Function.

Dual Watch
Dual Watch allows you to simultaneously monitorany two (2) Dual Watch Locations:
radio. It can be edited and/or recalled forfuture engagements of Dual Watch Mode.
To Program Or Edit Dual WatchLocation 2 And EngageDual Watch Mode:
1. Press the MODE button untilthe Dual Watch icon and the
channel number flash onthe display.
2. Choose one of thefollowing:
a. Select or edit a channel:
1) Press the CHANNELUP or CHANNEL
DOWN button toselect a channel(1 to 8).
c. Press the LOCK button to return to
LISTENING MODE on either the channel orchannel/privacy code that was displayedbefore you entererd Mode Functions or thechannel/privacy code on which, duringscanning, you last received a transmission.
b. Select or edit a channel/privacy code:
1) Press the CHANNEL UP or CHANNELDOWN button to select a channel(1 to 8).
2) Press the MODE button to set thechannel. The small numbers next to thechannel number will flash on the display.
3) Press the CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL
DOWN button to select a CTCSS privacycode (01 to 38) or DCS privacy code(01 to 83).
3. Press the LOCK button toset Dual Watch Location 2and engage DUAL WATCHMODE (see below forfurther details).
NOTES: To terminate Dual Watch and proceed to the next available Mode Function,press the MODE button.While setting Dual Watch Location 2,if you do not press any buttons for 15 seconds your radio will automatically return to LISTENING MODE on Dual Watch
Not pressing any buttons for 15 seconds will enter the Baby Monitor Mode setting as Off and return the radio to LISTENING
MODE.NOTE: Both radios must be tuned to the same
channel and privacy code to communicate.
To Terminate Baby Monitor Mode:
Choose one of the following:a. Press the TALK button and return to
LISTENING MODE.
b. Press the LOCK button and return toLISTENING MODE.c. Press the MODE button and proceed to
the next available Mode Function.
10 Call Tone SettingsYou can choose between 10 different call tonesettings to transmit a uniquecall alert.
To Change a Call ToneSetting:
1. Press the MODE buttonuntil the letter “C” and thecurrent call tone number(1 to 10) is displayed. Thecurrent call tone will sound
for two (2) seconds.2. Press the CHANNEL UP
or CHANNEL DOWN buttonto hear the other calltone settings.
"Roger Beep" Confirmation Tone
Your listener will hear an audible tone whenyou release the TALK button. This alerts the otherparty that you have finished talking and that it isOK for them to speak. This feature can be turnedOn or Off.
To Turn “Roger Beep” On or Off:
When you turn On your microTALK® radio for thefirst time, “Roger Beep” will be On.
1. Press and release the MODEbutton until the “RogerBeep” icon flashes on thedisplay. The current On orOff setting is displayed.
2. Press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button toselect “Roger Beep”
On or Off.3. When your desired Roger
Beep Mode setting isdisplayed, choose oneof the following:
a. Press the MODE buttonto enter the new setting and proceedto other functions.
b. Press the LOCK button to enter the newsetting and return to LISTENING MODE.
c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds toenter the new setting and return toLISTENING MODE.
3. When your desired call tone setting is
displayed, choose one of the following:a. Press the MODE button to enter the new
setting and proceed to other functions.
b. Press the LOCK button to enter the newsetting and return to LISTENING MODE.
c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds toenter the new setting and return to
LISTENING MODE.
The setting you select will be saved when you
turn your radio off and on again. When the“Roger Beep” is On, the “Roger Beep” iconwill be displayed.
With Keystroke Tones turned On, your radio willsound beeps each time you press a button orchange a setting.
To Turn Keystroke Tones On or Off:
When you turn On your microTALK® radio for thefirst time, Keystroke Tones will be On.
1. Press the MODE button untilthe Keystroke Tones iconflashes on the display. Thecurrent ON or OFF settingis displayed.
2. Press the CHANNEL UP orCHANNEL DOWN button toturn Keystroke Tones Onor Off.
3. When your desired Keystroke Tone Modesetting is displayed, choose one of thefollowing:
a. Press the MODE button to enter the newsetting and return to LISTENING MODE.
b. Press the LOCK button to enter the newsetting and return to LISTENING MODE.
c. Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds toenter the new setting and return toLISTENING MODE.
The setting you select will be saved when youturn your radio off and on again. When KeystrokeTones are On, the keystroke tone icon willbe displayed.
