Balram confirmed that the threewanted suspects were arrested by
his officers. He said the suspects were spotted

THERE are six steps in financial planning. Thisweek I will cover the first step:Life Insurance
This type of policy is more important if you aremarried and/or have children. Your life is valuablebecause it is what allows you to work and earn anincome to provide for your family. When you aregone you create an income gap which could putyour spouse or children in financial trouble.
Death is hard enough, don't make it even harder by putting your loved ones in a financial jam if
the unfortunate does happen. Funerals alone canbe expensive and it creates even more stress onthe family. You should have enough to cover basicfuneral expenses and provide a cushion for yourfamily, which is an stream of income that replaceswhat is gone. If you do not currently have life insurance, your best bet is to check with your employer first. Many employers offer a basic life insurance as a benefit and some even allow you topurchase additional coverage at a very affordablerate. However you should not depend on your em
track record. It is also important to deal with a financial adviser or broker who you can trust andcomes well referred. You can also purchase policies directly from some insurance companies telephonically, this is not the best option as all the information may not be covered and therefore youmay end up with a claim not being met at claimstage.
Type Of PolicyIs it health insurance, life insurance, disability
insurance, property and casualty insurance, or carinsurance?
If you are reviewing or summarizing a life insurance policy, specify what type of life insurance policy it is: term life, whole life or universal life.
Insurance CompanyWho is the insurance company that provides theinsurance? Keep track of a customer service number you can call, or the contact information foryour insurance agent/ broker.
Policy NumberYou will always need your policy number and iden
tity number when you call and ask questionsabout an insurance policy.
Date IssuedIt is important to know the date the insurance wasissued especially when it comes to life insurance,as term insurance has an expiration date, and permanent insurance will have a surrender chargethat may apply if you cancel the policy in the firstfive to twenty years.
Premium RequiredAlways keep track of the premium you pay andhow frequently it is paid. In the case of a wholelife insurance policy, the policy could be paid up.The new generation life policies have review dates, this can be five, 10 or 15 year terms.
Premium PatternsThere are different options of premium patternsi.e. level, ageprofiled, aggressive ageprofiled andcompulsory premium increase.
With ageprofiled the premiums are cheaperat inception, as you get older the premium increases and therefore may not be affordable at a later

stage. Cheapest is not always the best. Your adviser or broker will be in a position to explain fully. Who do the benefits apply to; you, yourspouse, a dependent child?Once you understand the basic components, youcan review the details of the insurance policy.
Summary Of Benefits - You Must Look AtThis In Detail When You Review An Insur-ance PolicyMuch of the information you need can be foundin your policy under a section called "SummaryOf Benefits" or "Policy Data", but I think it isbest to conduct an insurance review by callingyour agent or broker and have them talk youthrough each feature of your policy, explainingwhen it would apply, how you would qualify, andhow much you pay for it.Below is a brief overview of what you wouldwant to review for each type of insurance youmay have:
Life Insurance Policy Review And SummaryFor life insurance keep track of the total
death benefit, and any additional riders such asa waiver of premium in the event of disability.
In addition, if your policy has a cash value, track the performance of investments inside it,and call the adviser/ broker or insurance company to request something called an "inforce illustration/ fund value".

Humanridiculousness andyardsticks of goodcharacter
IN Germany between October 1939and August 1941, Adolf Hitler sanctioned the Action T4/Euthanasia
Programme.Criterion for euthanasia was simple:
‘life unworthy of life’.The ‘mentally ill’ and ‘incurably ill’
fell into this category. A child euthanasia programme was established in order to eradicate ‘spreading’ of deficient genes and later shifted to adultsnot deemed worthy of life.
At this time in Nazi Germany youwould be eligible for euthanasia ifyou had an abnormally small head, aswollen head or deformed limbs.
Paralysis and Down Syndrome also
made one unworthy of life, as did epilepsy, schizophrenia and encephalitis.Eventually children eligible for euthanasia came to include ‘those designated as juvenile delinquents’.
The Nazi propaganda machinepremiered films and distributed literature to inform the public of conditionsat asylums and how much moneywas being wasted in keeping alivethose that were unable to contributeanything meaningful by Nazi standards to society.
As WWII swung into action, cornershad to be cut, and ‘mercy killing’ wouldsave the state money.
During this time it is estimated thatclose on 300 000 people were killedusing ‘the best available human judgement [to perform a] mercy death’. Historians who have studied the T4 programme tell us that the ‘mercy deaths’were ‘nearly always carried out without the consent of the people concerned or their families’.
But this is Adolf Hitler we aretalking about; in an era when educationand propaganda were the same thing. So what is a human being worth over70 years later?
According to research undertakenby the U.S. department of soils and agriculture or some such body a few yearsago, if the chemical and mineral components of the human body were added up, we would be worth aboutR1000.
This doesn’t include organs, where,if you are having a particularly tightmonth, you can rake in a tidy R6000+for your spleen, according to blackmarket prices.
But then we get to ‘statistical life’value. Simply put, this is the amountthe taxpayer should (theoretically)be willing to pay to stop the deathof one human being. Reports releasedby the Obama administration in 2011indicated that the value of statisticallife was $6.1 million.
Since statistical life value is usedas a benchmark for deciding on regulation, if your life doesn’t hold asmuch statistical value as the lives ofothers, corners can be cut.
Thus things such as pollution andcrime are not as tightly regulated inareas where human life has a lower statistical value.
Determining the value of human
life is tricky. Your mom probably thinksyou are worth the lives of 10 people.Your boss probably doesn’t.
Your government may think yourlife is more worthwhile if you are anactive contributor to economic and social growth in the form of taxes somight your neighbours.
But the value of human life alsofluctuates with social pressure, legislation and culture, as seen in the oftenhighly emotive debates over abortion.
I have always found it ironic thaton the same wing of a hospital doctors will fight to save the life of a20weekold premature ‘baby’ but inanother room a 20weekold ‘foetus’will be aborted. Who decides the worthof the baby or the foetus? And whyis it that abortion appears to be targeted at the poor and nonwhites?
So, do we gain worth from our race? Are we more worthy if we are middleclass? Are we more worthy if we havetwo children instead of five?
Do riches or a degree make us wiseor equip us to impart wisdom andworth? Who decides this?
And more importantly, why do welet them?
I am not worthy … or you, or you

Arthritis and children>> Help your child and family cope with Juvenile Arthritis
WHATEVER he physical complications of juvenile arthritis (JA),the psychological issues are
more likely to affect the lives of you andyour family. Here’s how to cope with achildwhohasJAwhilekeepingyourfamilytogether.
Even with a completely healthy familyit’snevereasytobalanceyourlife:keepingthe relationship with your partner alive, aswell as providing love, stimulation and security for your children.
So when one child needs special care, the strain on keeping that balance is increased exponentially. The child with JAmay feel angry about being the one withthe illness.
“Mummy and Daddy can fix anything. Why can’t they make this pain go away?”
“Why did I get it and not one of theother children, or one of the children in myclass?”
These are natural human reactionsnot restricted to childhood. Your childmight pass through various stages ofgrieving including denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Psychologist Elizabeth KüblerRoss defined thesestagesofgrief, whichapplynotonlytolosing a loved one, but also to any majorshock, such as discovering that you havea disease.
You’ll find more useful information inthe book Life Lessons: Two Experts onDeath and Dying Teach Us about the Mysteries of Life and Living by David Kesslerand Elisabeth KüblerRoss (publisher:Touchstone Books), available at www.kalahari.net.
You’re likely to go through the samestages of grieving as your child, althoughthey’ll obviously manifest differently.
Venting your anger on the membersof your family won’t help the process atall. Recognise that your partner might also feel guilty about passing on a defectivegene to your child. Acknowledge thatthese emotions are common to all thosewho are in your position and accept thatyou didn’t “cause” the illness.
Selfpity is a luxury reserved for peoplewith no dependents or loved ones. Yourtask is to monitor the pulse of the family:watch for resentment between the childthat has JA and those that don’t.
At the other end of the scale, the childor children not affected by juvenile arthritis might feel a need to overcompensateand be overprotective toward the siblingwith JA. Watch for signs that the “well”child is neglecting his or her own needs
and normal activities to care for the “ill”one.
As far as possible, encourage your children to sort out their disputes amongthemselves and to discuss their feelings.
Make it clear that you expect your childwith JA to behave as well as the other children and that the illness isn’t a licence forabrogating his or her responsibilities. Children with JA might be unable to mow thelawn, but they can do other chores suchas tidying up or folding laundry.
This may seem draconian, but it actually helps to keep the peace in the home, because you’ll avoid resentment and guiltamong the children.
Encourage the child with JA – and theothers, if they show an interest – to learnabout the disease and its treatment programme.
As he or she grows older they can beencouraged to assume responsibility fortaking medication on time, following anexercise programme and being aware ofsideeffects. In this way you’ll have thechild make the transition to selfreliancein adulthood.
It’s a fine balance between showeringyour child with love and care, and encouraging them to be selfsufficient. The childmay try – perhaps subconsciously – tomanipulate you into allowing “offlimits”activities or to be relieved of household
chores.Being consistent will help smooth the
way over these incidents. Make it clearthat the child comes first when he or sheis ill, but that the family has to functionas a unit and that each member has anobligation to ensure that this happens.
When your child first becomes ill, youmay set aside relationships with otherfamily members. It is important, however,to continue to talk and spend time withothers. Plan special time to spend alonewith your spouse, or with the entire family.
Make allowances for the child’s “offdays” when he or she is too ill or stiff totake part in an activity.
This can be an emotional minefieldif the family has planned a visit to the zooand the child with JA feels unwell. Thefamily will have to make adjustments tothese uncertainties and make contingency plans accordingly. In some cases simplywaiting a few hours will be enough.
The first step is to teach the family toaccept that these uncertainties are partof life. Encourage ideas on activities foractive days and quiet days. You could consider having a child minder or relative lookafter the child with JA, or to postpone theexcursion until another day. Either decision might lead to floods of tears aboutbeing “left out,” so play it by ear.
Start early
By the age of three, a child with JA mightbegin to realise that he or she is “different”and this will inevitably affect his or herselfimage and view of the world. Not being able to play as vigorously as other children might still leave ways to play withother children.
Children can be cruel, so you’ll have tomake some effort to reinforce a positiveselfimage by finding ways in which thechild with JA can be helpful. Continuallyinclude your child as a valued and neededmember of the family.
When delegating chores you can allocate the child with JA ones that can bedone easily, such as feeding pets, foldinglaundry, tidying up and so on. Give creditfor all achievements, without fawningover the child.
A sibling who offers to help mightmean well, but leaving the child with JAto accomplish something independentlywill reinforce his or her sense of selfworth. It might be difficult to not intervene when the child struggles, but ifthere’s any chance of him or her succeeding at a task, offer encouragement, butnot help. The sense of accomplishmentwill outweigh the struggles. During thesetimesdon’tputtoomuchemphasisonthechild’s minor aches and pains, althoughthe obvious discomfort and pain can’t beignored.

PEOPLE who suffer from frequent heartburn may be at increasedrisk for cancers of the throat and vocal cords, research shows.Interestingly, common overthecounter antacids seemed to protect against these cancers while prescription medications such asPrilosec, Nexium and Prevacid didn't, the researchers said.
"There has been a controversy about whether heartburn contributes to cancers of the larynx or pharynx," said lead researcher ScottLangevin, a postdoctoral research fellow at Brown University inProvidence, RI.
"And we found out that it does elevate the risk of these cancers. There is about a 78% increase in the risk for cancer in people whoexperience heavy heartburn," he said. "This is important in figuringout who to monitor more closely."
Reducing the risk of cancerThe other finding, which Langevin called "surprising," was the
protective effect of common antacids in reducing the risk of cancer."We didn't see that protective effect with prescription medica
tions. But it should be noted that people who take them are thosewho get the worst heartburn, so we shouldn't read too much into
Why other medications didn't lower the risk isn't clear, Lichtenfeld said. And it points to one limitation of this type of study: It can'ttake into account all the variables.
Patients with vocal cord cancerTo come to their conclusions, Langevin's group compared more
than 600 patients with throat or vocal cord cancer with more than1 300 people without a history of cancer. All the patients answeredquestions about their history of heartburn, smoking and drinkinghabits, and family history of cancer.
In addition, since some head and neck cancers are caused by thehuman papillomavirus (HPV), the researchers tested all the participants for antigens to the virus.
The researchers found that among those who weren't heavysmokers or drinkers, frequent heartburn increased the risk for cancers of the throat and vocal cords by 78%.
The researchers also found that taking antacids but not prescription medications or home remedies reduced the risk for thesecancers by 41%. The protective effect of antacids was independentof smoking, drinking or infection with HPV, they said.
Chronic heartburn may raise odds for throatcancer
that," he said.Langevin added that it's hard to explain that
medication finding, and other studies will be neededto see if it's really the case. "It's possible that thesedrugs didn't have that protective effect becausethese were the worst cases of heartburn," he said.
The report was published in the journal CancerEpidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. And whileit uncovered an association between heartburn andcancer of the throat and vocal cords, it didn't provea causeandeffect relationship.
Dr Len Lichtenfeld, deputy chief medical officerat the American Cancer Society, said "the studyshows that reflux is associated with an increased incidence of cancers of the larynx and pharynx."
Lichtenfeld said the role of antacids in reducingthe risk of cancer needs more study. "Researchersneed to determine why antacids work and, more importantly, whether antacids make a difference in also reducing cancer of the esophagus," he said.
PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM FREQUENT HEARTBURN MAY BE AT INCREASED RISK FOR CANCERS OF THETHROAT AND VOCAL CORDS, RESEARCH SHOWS.INTERESTINGLY, COMMON OVERTHECOUNTER ANTACIDSSEEMED TO PROTECT AGAINSTTHESE CANCERS.
