A MUSICAL REVUE

MIKE MONACHINO

President, Board of Directors

Friends,

We Hope to See You Often!

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to Closer Than Ever. Musicals are so uplifting and it’s great to share this

incredible Show with you. It’s hard to believe we’re running our third performance of

our 2021-22 Season. Our last play, Native Gardens, will run April 12 - 24, 2022. When

our Season of Plays concludes, there will be a lot to look forward to at CVRep.

We have been busy planning an incredible Summer Season filled with concerts,

presentations and performances. We are partnering with David Green (MTU) to

present AMTC’s National Youth Summer Stock - a college level intensive three-week

workshop in which each week a new play will be performed. Joe Giarrusso, along

with Rob Moon, is building out our Classical Music series. Jimmy Cuomo is putting

together some amazing cabaret artists and other performances. We’ll be offering

a live version of Theatre Thursdays. From May through August, there will be a new

offering on the Stage of CVRep. We hope to see you often!

Thank you for your support and enjoy tonight’s presentation.

– Mike Monachino

RON CELONA

Founding Artistic Director

THANK YOU for all you did to help

make this day possible. We would

not be here without you.

It’s a pleasure to present a musical

once again at CVRep. This is the

first Musical Revue that CVRep

has produced as part of our main

stage productions. Although I have

produced many musical revues

as fundraisers, they were original

conceptions. This is an example of

a musical revue that was written

and licensed to be produced for

theaters all over the country.

Closer Than Ever got its start at

the Williamstown Theatre Festival

in Massachusetts during the

summer of 1989. It turned out to

be a smash hit that went on to an

Off-Broadway production

and continues to be produced

in theaters like ours. This being

my final directorial production at

CVRep, along with the financial

and Covid related needs to

produce a small cast production,

a musical revue is a perfect fit for

our season.

I want to give a special THANK

YOU to my longtime collaborator,

friend and musical director, Scott

Storr. We have worked together on

musicals for over 20 years.

It’s my hope you will enjoy Scott’s

mastery on the piano along with

the other musicians, and our

amazingly talented cast.

Enjoy,

- Ron Celona Founding Artistic Director

Welcome back to the playhouse!

Angeles, CA; a company which produced workshops of new musicals.

Ron moved to the Palm Springs area in 1999 and was the

founder and Producing Artistic Director for the Joslyn Players

at the Joslyn Center Theatre (now named The Arthur Newman

Theatre) from 1999 through 2007. During his tenure he created

an award winning Theater Company and venue, supported and

respected by the community.

After a year of planning, Ron’s dream of creating a professional

regional theatre was realized. In August of 2008, Coachella

Valley Repertory, led by founding board member Gary D. Hall

– then President, now Chairman Emeritus – was started. After

several years of continuous sold-out shows in our 86-seat

storefront theatre, it was necessary to expand. Ron and the

CVRep Board’s new dream was to purchase our own, larger

theatre.  Now entering our third decade, the 2021-2022 Season

is presented at the new CVRep Playhouse in Cathedral City.
