Community Support Update from The Food Co-op Over the last week over 60 food parcels have been distributed. This is evenly spread between families and single people. The majority are asylum seekers but we have seven local people who regularly call in. Last week 18 food parcels were delivered. We are hoping that once the ‘new’ people are out of self-isolation they will collect their parcels. Several have indicated that they will call in next week. Two of the young men volunteers have been assisting during the week. Their language skills have been greatly appreciated especially with communicating with the new people who have recently arrived. The lockdown has been very limiting for them and they are eager to help. Generous donations have been received from individuals and local churches. Many thanks to all who have been committed to supporting the Food Coop especially during the last 4 months when shopping is not so straightforward. The recipients are very grateful. Last week we received a thank you card with some delightful drawings from a little girl aged 7 who lives with her dad. The drawings were done with art materials given to her at the beginning of lockdown. Dad has very limited income due to his status. This has been further compromised with being unable to work as the little girl has been off school. He is just one of the families that has been supported, not just with food, throughout this period. Many thanks to all who have helped prepare food parcels, sort donations and also deliver food parcels. With kind regards, Kath.
