NATURE NEWS
Vol. 3, No. 8 May 2021
Editorial
The theme of Earth Day 2021 called for the
responsibility humanity towards the
restoration our earth. It’s a big and collective
moral duty of humanity. Our footprint is heavy
over last two to three centuries. Restoration
has to take place everywhere on the continents
and oceans. Restoration must focus all the vital
life support systems like ecosystems,
biodiversity, water, soils, forests, wetlands,
grass lands, seeds and breeds, crops, wildlife,
wilderness etc. We need to restore our ethical,
spiritual relationship with mother earth. We
need to halt damage to the natural resources
and arrest the decline of environmental quality.
All the global commons and common pool
resources have to be relieved from stress. It’s
everyone’s responsibility to keep them healthy
and intact. It requires a massive sensitization,
persuasion and commitment from global to
local level. Because the ecosystem services of
the common resources are immeasurable.
The 11th Foundation day of CGR and earth day
synchronizes on 22 April 2021. Amid the
unfolding chaos of second wave of corona
pandemic, CGR organized an international
conference, two national conferences and
facilitated the observation of the day in more
than 100 villages across Telangana and in parts
of Andhra Pradesh by involving various partner
organizing and volunteer groups.
Best wishes to all for the support and active
participation in the programme. We wish the
pledges and commiments on the day soon
translate into action for a better earth and
better future.

Declaration
International Conference on Restore Our Earth
The theme of Earth Day 2021
We the participants of the “Virtual Summit on Climate Change” being organized with the initiative
of Council for Green Revolution, on 22nd April, 2021, having discussed the environment and
development issues, with the objective of “Restoring the Earth Systems” hereby issue this
Declaration: We are glad to note that USA is returning to the table to discuss positive climate
action. India also needs to develop a rigorous and smart climate action plan. It is important that
biggest economies, which are also the biggest causes of global pollution, are getting together with
the stated objective of significantly upgrading their climate mitigating actions.
1. Since there is great urgency created by huge levels of pollution and carbon build up in the
atmosphere, we urge all countries, individually and together, declare Planetary Climate emergency
and take urgent steps to decarbonise world economy.
2. Reform food production systems – on land, inland waters and oceans – to be in sync with needs of
the primary food producers and food consumers.
3. Limit access of large corporations and other financial interests in food systems. Food systems also
include access to and equitable use of Water.
4. Agro-ecological transformation, that eliminates use of hazardous chemicals in food and fibre
production, requires support from the governments.
5. Afforestation, biodiversity conservation and promotion of nature in both urban and rural areas
requires immediate attention.
6. Immediately stop mining and industrial scale exploitation in ecological areas like Eastern Ghats and
take effective measures to protect them.
7. Devise action plans through a consultative process and implement them globally, nationally and at
local levels, with full decision-making participation of people at all levels.
8. Chalk out a global program to phase out climate-damaging Coal use within the year 2035, and oil
and gas use before 2045.
9. Poorer nations must be given all support to do this energy transition.
10. All large multi-lateral, bi-lateral and national financial institutions should be directed to invest at
least 40% to addressing the climate crisis, with equal emphasis on mitigation and adaptation. 11. As
the
climate crisis is largely created by unbridled consumption by the rich people, while hundreds of
thousands of poor vulnerable people suffer from its serious impacts every year, the rich people must
own up their responsibility and provide reasonable reparations for these losses and damages of the
poor. 12. Democracy is fundamental key for solutions to climate emergencies. Consultative and
transparent mechanisms should be in place to achieve the goals set out in climate change action
plans.
13. Equity and justice in natural resource ownership and access have to be integrated into national
public policies. 14. Implementation of action plans that are intended to achieve Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) need synchronization with climate emergency action plans.
