I) Installation and general using rules:
Please read carefully the "Software installation and brief
description Guide.pdf".
II) CMYK_Print_&_Proof specifications:
Software functionalities:
CMYK_Print_&_Proof software allows you fast and easy
checking of all CMYK prints and proofs matching ISO 12642, ISO
12647-2-3-4-6-7 or G7/IDEAlliance or your own CUSTOM CMYK proofing
or printing standards (Both traditional and digital prints).
In the Control tab, a pull-down menu offers nine different
control modes:
Type of control Purpose of the control
CMYK Proof according to ISO 12647-7 CMYK proofs following latest
ISO standard*
CMYK Proof according to G7/IDEAlliance CMYK proofs following
G7/IDEAlliance US interpretation of ISO12647-x*
CMYK Proof according to ISO 12642 CMYK proofs following previous
ISO proof control standard*
CMYK Proof with ΔECMC2:1 CMYK proofs with ΔECMC2:1, private
standard
CMYK Proof with ΔE2000 CMYK proofs with ΔE2000, future standard
…
CMYK Print according to ISO 12647-2-3-4 CMYK print following
latest ISO 12647-2-3-4 standards*
CMYK Print according to G7/IDEAlliance CMYK print following
latest G7/IDEAlliance standards*
CMYK Print with ΔECMC2:1 CMYK print with ΔECMC2:1, private
standard
CMYK Print with ΔE2000 CMYK print with ΔE2000, future standard
…
(*) These standards are far from perfection but have the merit
to be existing and well documented. See the paper:
http://www.color-source.net/en/Docs_Formation/2015_POINT_ABOUT_ISO_12647_STANDARDS.pdf
You can specify your own tolerances in the Preferences tab for
each above control mode. Of course, controlling CMYK print and
proofs with conformance to ISO standards requires using the ISO
tolerances that are reminded in the Preferences tab.
The "Reset Tolerances - Tolérances par défaut" button allows you
resetting the tolerance values to their official ISO values. Of
course, for non-normalized control using ΔE CMC 2:1 or best ΔE2000
visual distance formula, you can set your own default tolerance and
restore these defaults values at any moment.
For CMYK proofs simulating ISO 12647-2 (Offset printing),
12647-3 (Newspapers), or 12647-4 (Gravure printing), the
application checks the color proof conformance to following
standards:
1. ISO 12647-7: ΔE76 visual distances and ΔH tint distances of
primary colors and CMY grays, according to ISO 12647-7
specifications,
2. G7/IDEAlliance: Strange interpretation of ISO12647-7 by US
organizations SWOP (Standard Web Offset Print) and GRACoL (General
Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset Lithography).
This control mode is only relevant for CMYK proofs simulating SWOP
or GRACoL CMYK profiles. The proof control is based on ΔE76, ΔH and
ΔF criteria.
3. ISO12642: ΔE76 visual distances, according to older but often
more relevant ISO 12642 specifications,
4. Alternatively, your own control criteria (Using more
realistic ΔECMC2:1 or best ΔE2000 visual distances).

For CMYK prints matching ISO 12647-2 (Offset printing), 12647-3
(Newspapers), or 12647-4 (Gravure printing), the application checks
the print conformance to following standards:
1. ISO 12647-2-3-4-6: ΔE76 visual distances according these
print standards,
2. G7/IDEAlliance: Based on ΔE76, ΔH and ΔF criteria
3. Alternatively, you can use your own control criteria (Using
more realistic ΔECMC2:1 or much better ΔE2000 visual
distances).
CMYK_Print_&_Proof is a FREE application allowing you
controlling ALL CMYK proofs vs. ALL ISO 12647-2-3-4-6
and G7/IDEAlliance color proofing standards.
Please note that when you select not a Proof but a Print control
mode, CMYK_Print_&_Proof switches in trial mode and does not
display its results. Only the paying version
CMYK_Print_&_Proof_PRO allows controlling CMYK prints with
density and dot gain diagnosis.
CMYK_Print_&_Proof_PRO checks the press TVI or dot gain
curves according to each chosen ISO 12647-x target color and checks
the press solid inks densities.
Controlling ISO12647-6 flexographic prints and proofs:
Please note ISO12647-6 specify the solid D50 Lab 2° colors your
press should match for each classical flexo print medium, and
MagicPress application allows computing the optimal print densities
for matching ISO12647-6.
MagicPrepress application then allows you computing your
flexographic CMYK printing forms correction curves in order to
match the ISO12647-6 target dot gain curves.
But ISO12647-6 cannot publish any standard flexo CMYK ICC
profile, so that the flexographic target colors for
CMYK_Print_&_Proof can only be computed from the CMYK ICC
profile the flexographic Printer MUST established after he has set
his press matching ISO12647-6.
CMYK_Print_&_Proof allows you using the CUSTOM target colors
you can easily compute from each flexographic press CMYK ICC
profile.
Control bars CMYK_Print_&_Proof can check:
The CMYK proof or print has to include one of the following
control bars:
• Paying Fogra Media Wedge 2 control bar (Obsolete but still in
use),
• Paying Fogra Media Wedge 3 ISO 12647-7 control bar,
• Royalty free Colorsource ISO 12647-7 control bar,
• Royalty free IDEAlliance 12647-7 2009 control bar,
• Royalty free single line CMYK_Print_&_Proof control
bar.
Caution: The CMYK_Print_&_Proof single line control bar is
different from the MagicPrepress single line control bar. You can
use the CMYK_Print_&_Proof single line control bar with
MagicPress and MagicPrepress applications provided you use the
appropriate reference file for the chart measurements.
Above control bars device CMYK values are reminded in the
application’s Charts tab, and can be exported by
pressing the "Export CGATS ref.txt" button as CGATS text
reference files, for use with MeasureTool or i1Profiler measurement
applications (Eye-One Pro, Eye-One Pro2, Eye-One Pro3 or EFI
ES-1000-2000).
They are supplied as well in form of printable CMYK files. We
remind you that you should NOT incorporate Fogra Media Wedge 2 and
Fogra Media Wedge 3 control bar to your prints and proofs, UNLESS
you pay a license fee to Fogra. You can use freely the two other
Colorsource and IDEAlliance control bars.
Four of these control bars are supplied as well with alternative
layouts allowing you measuring them with free ColorPort
application. Please see Software installation and brief description
Guide.pdf for more information about using ColorPort and the other
measurement application.

Other offered target colors:
The pull-down menu in the Control tab offers above target
colors, plus following two additional options:
CUSTOM User defined target colors specified in Custom tab.
AUTO Chooses the target color nearest to your measured control
bar.
1) "CUSTOM" target choice:
In this case your control will use the set of target Lab or
spectral values you can freely specify in the Custom tab.
• For checking a Fogra Media Wedge 2 control bar, your custom
target colors can be a Fogra Media Wedge 2 (46 patches) or a Fogra
Media Wedge 3 (72 patches). Because Fogra Media Wedge 2 is a subset
of Fogra Media Wedge 3 CMYK device values,
• For checking a Fogra Media Wedge 3 control bar, your custom
target colors can be a Fogra Media Wedge 3 (72 patches),
• For checking a Colorsource ISO 12647-7 control bar, your
custom target colors can be a Colorsource ISO 12647-7 control bar
(72 patches),
• For checking an IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 2009 control bar, your
custom target colors can be an IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 2009 control
bar (54 patches),
• For checking a single line CMYK_Print_&_Proof control bar,
your custom target colors can be a single line
CMYK_Print_&_Proof control bar control bar (32 patches).
You can specify as well in the Custom tab a universal custom
target colors set memorizing all 145 patches of all five control
bars. You can display the appropriate universal CGATS reference
file for computing this
universal CUSTOM target in Charts tab, by choosing "Custom
target for all control bars".
2) "AUTO" target colors choice:
This is quite convenient, because in this mode
CMYK_Print_&_Proof application automatically displays and
chooses as target colors the ISO12647-2-3-4 or G7/IDEAlliance or
CUSTOM standard nearest to the control bar you have measured.
If you produce decent CMYK proofs or prints, this AUTO mode
allows very fast checking by avoiding you choosing the wrong target
colors among the numerous standard targets. This can help you as
well identifying which kind of CMYK print or proof you are
controlling.

COLOR SOURCE S.A.S. - R.C.S. ÉVRY 453219768 - CODE APE 7022Z
Target dot gain curves for CMYK print control modes:
In the four following control modes designed for CMYK
prints:
CMYK Print according to ISO 12647-2-3-4 (ΔE76),
CMYK Print according to G7/IDEAlliance
CMYK Print with ΔECMC2:1,
And CMYK Print with ΔE2000,
The print control is done on a purely colorimetric basis, but
the application displays in the Report tab the CMYK solid inks
densities and measured TVI curves or dot gains on the control
bar.
The target TVI curves are set automatically according to the
chosen ISO12647-2-3-4 or IDEAlliance target and they are displayed
in the Custom_% tab.
If you choose CUSTOM target colors, the target TVI curves are
the custom target curves you can specify in this same Custom_%
tab.
The dot gain tolerances can be specified as a percentage in the
Preferences tab.
Please note that ISO12647-2-3-4 or IDEAlliance CMYK prints
colors can be good with measured TVI not matching the according
ISO12647-x or IDEAlliance standard ICC profile. Because you can set
your press on alternative target CMYK TVI curves, and use CMYK to
CMYK color space changes on your prepress workflow prior to
generating your CMYK printing forms.
This is why out of standard press TVI curves are not considered
as a fault, as long as your CMYK print does match your target ISO
Lab colors within ISO tolerances.

For printing the control bar on a CMYK proof, the CMYK control
bar has to be color managed:
As an example, the Colorsource ISO12647-7 control bar will be
proofed with the color you would get on an ISOcoated_v2 print
(ISOcoated_V2 CMYK converted to print engine C'M'Y'K' with absolute
rendering intent). The application will check that measured colors
on the proof do match the reference ISOcoated_V2 CMYK print Lab D50
2° colors.
For printing the control bar on a CMYK print, the CMYK control
bar should be incorporated "as it is" to the CMYK file to be
printed:
The application will check that measured colors on the CMYK
print do match the reference ISOcoated_V2 CMYK print Lab D50 2°
colors.
This is valid as well when you want to control CMYK digital
prints that DO NOT simulate ISO12647-x CMYK presses limited color
gamut. In this case, you should generate and use your own CUSTOM
target colors for your digital printer.
Measuring the control bar:
CMYK_Print_&_Proof uses the control bar raw spectral (Or at
least colorimetric) measurement data. The "Software installation
and brief description Guide" explain you how to make your
measurement files using a variety of free applications.

Please note that choosing "AUTO" target color is OK for most of
controls… as long as your proofs are not too bad!
The control bar out of tolerance patches are underlined with
red, and visual distances (ΔE76, ΔH, ΔECMC2:1, ΔE2000, ΔF, ΔL
depending on each control mode) are displayed only on the out of
tolerance patches.
The tolerance for each patch is depending on the specifications
you have set in the Preferences tab for each control mode.
A brief diagnostic is displayed. A job name and reference can be
typed in.
Printing the control reports:
The Ticket tab gives a brief diagnosis you can print on a
sticker:
If non-ISO tolerances are used, which can be quite legitimate,
this is written in reports.
The Report tab gives a full comprehensive diagnosis you can
print on one or two A4 pages.
Please note the dot gain or TVI curves are only displayed for
CMYK print control modes, because they are irrelevant for
colorimetric control of proofs. If non-ISO tolerances are used,
which can be quite legitimate, this is written in report.
The tolerance for each patch is displayed depending on the
specifications you have set in the Preferences tab for each control
mode.

Specifying a set of CUSTOM target colors:
The CUSTOM colors are specified in the Custom tab, by typing,
pasting or importing you custom spectral or colorimetric reference
data.
You have several ways of specifying your CUSTOM target
colors:
a) Any spectral or colorimetric measurement file of a control
bar can be pasted or imported to the Custom tab for being used as
your CUSTOM target colors. You can average many control bar
measurements files before pasting them, by using Excel or a
licensed MeasureTool version or other applications. Of course, your
CUSTOM target values should match the type of control bar you want
to measure.
b) You can as well compute your CUSTOM target colors from any
reference CMYK target ICC profile, by using the control bar text
reference file and the reference CMYK ICC profile with free
Colorlab software.
The resulting custom target colors file can be copied and pasted
to the Custom tab, which then displays the type of control bar you
have pasted.
For making a universal custom target color set valid for all
four control bars, you should use as reference file the
145 patches universal CGATS reference file in Charts tab named
"Custom target for all control bars", that can be
exported to
CMYK_Print_&_Proof_All_Charts_ref_for_Colorlab.txt CGATS
reference file for use with Colorlab application.
The process is the same as the process for computing your custom
target colors for MagicPress and MagicPrepress applications.
(Please see MagicPress and MagicPrepress Users Guide for full
working procedure).
Specifying custom target dot gains for CMYK print control:
When you are using a set of custom target colors, you can
specify as well in the Custom_% tab a set of four custom CMYK
target TVI curves, for example by measuring a few of good prints
with MagicPrepress application.
Specifying custom control tolerances:
The Preferences tab allows you choosing your tolerances for each
one of the eight control modes (Five control modes for CMYK proofs
and three control modes for CMYK prints):

Among the nine possible print and proof control modes:
Five modes are subjected to standard tolerances set by ISO or
G7/IDEAlliance:
CMYK Proof according to ISO 12647-7
CMYK Proof according to G7/IDEAlliance
CMYK Proof according to ISO 12642
CMYK Print according to ISO 12647-2-3-4
CMYK Print according to G7/IDEAlliance
For these modes, a specified tolerance is displayed red if you
chose a non-ISO tolerance value.
Four Colorsource control modes are not subjected to any
standard, but they offer better visual distance estimation formulae
such as ΔECMC2:1 and much better ΔE2000:
CMYK Proof with ΔECMC2:1*
CMYK Proof with ΔE2000
CMYK Press with ΔECMC2:1*
CMYK Press with ΔE2000
(*) Please note that as for all other Colorsource software
ΔECMC2:1 visual distance is computed with a symmetrized formula,
because otherwise the visual distance between two A and B colors
could be different from the visual distance between same B and A
colors!
In this case, you are free to set your own tolerance for each
Customer, depending on his needs … and on his BUDGET!
The Preferences tab allows you:
• Choosing the application language (English or French),
• Selecting which ISO targets will be displayed in the Control
tab pull-down menu,
• Activating the paper optical brighteners' corrections for
computing your papers Lab colors. Of course, the paper tint
correction, which we recommend, is only active when a print control
mode is chosen.

Important note about paper tints and offset papers:
Please note that even when perfectly setting your press for
matching an ISO 12647-2 standard, you will often get out of ISO
tolerances paper whites, because there are excellent white papers
with paper tints not matching the ISO 12647-x standards, and you
should not worry.
This problem is aggravated with uncoated white offset papers
because their whiteness is often produced by using strong optical
brighteners (OBC's), and the paper tint written is ISO press
characterization files and induced CMYK ICC profiles IS NOT the
actual Lab paper tint that has been measured!
Because the absolute Lab D50 color of these papers is often
measured very bluish so that ISO have decided to use far less blue
paper tints in order the color proofing systems using the ISO CMYK
profile as source profile do not produce a far too blue simulated
paper tint on the proof.
This is a strong limit of ISO 12647-x standards that are not
based on publishing spectral reference data but only colorimetric
data.
Do not worry: CMYK_Print_&_Proof application allows you
proper quality control of uncoated offset paper prints thanks to
its sophisticated optical brightener's correction. If necessary,
you can as well set up you own printing and QA standard, by using
MagicPress, MagicPrepress and CMYK_Print_&_Proof applications
CUSTOM target functionalities.

Troubleshooting and FAQS:
The application does not launch:
Colorsource applications are using Microsoft Excel for computing
engine. Use Microsoft Excel 2007, Excel 2010 or Excel 2013 or
2016.
Please note that Excel (or Microsoft Office) should be installed
with appropriate Microsoft Office components including Visual
Basic, otherwise the application will not launch.
Sometimes optional components of Microsoft Excel (depending on
your Excel version and installation kit) MUST be installed. If
needed go to Windows Control Panel, in the program’s installation
menu:
Right click on 2007 or 2010 or 2013 or 2016 Microsoft Office
System and ask to modify the existing installation:
Shared office components such as fonts and Visual Basic for
Applications have to be installed.
Then launch Excel and go to Excel Options, Confidentiality
management center, and then press the Parameters button:
You HAVE TO approve the access to object model of VBA
project:
Check your Excel version is installed with all most recent
Microsoft updates. For checking Excel is up to date, go to
Excel/Options/Resources (Excel 2007), or go to Excel/File/Help or
to Excel/File/Account and then press the « Search for updates »
button.
Finally, if the application does not launch, disable your
antivirus: There are no problems with most of the serious antivirus
applications (including Windows native protection systems, free
antivirus like Avira, AVG etc.) but some rare antivirus
applications may prevent the application launching.
Make a test by disabling your antivirus and if necessary, change
of antivirus program if your present application is the
problem.

I cannot paste or import my measurement data in the Measure
tab:
The program says it is “The cell is write protected”. Please
note before pasting your spectral measurement text file to Measure
tab, you need first select cell "Paste here!" with your mouse, or
select a cell in the relevant "Tint names" column when using
SPOT_Color_Manager, in order to paste your data at the right
location.
If you don’t select the right cell, you may get a “write
protected message”: This does not mean the useful cells are write
protected: This means that your text measurement file tries to
write not only the allowed cells but also one or more write
protected cell(s) around. This can happen for example if you add
many blanks (and invisible!) lines at the end of the text
measurement file after the last data line “END_DATA”, or if blank
data are present at the end of each line.
The application shows error messages such as “#####” or strange
curves in the result display tabs once I have pasted my data:
Check your measurement data decimal separator is a dot. If
needed see the details in Software installation and brief
description Guide.pdf on page 11. Check you have pasted your
measurement data at the right location(s) in your Colorsource
application.
Results tabs display too small or too large on my monitor:
Press “Ctrl” key and use the mouse wheel for zooming in or out,
and then save your application (“Ctrl s”).
You can mask Excel ribbon (Point the ribbon with your mouse and
use the mouse right button menu).
You can as well use Excel FULL SCREEN display (menu display …
Full screen) because you do not need Excel menus for making full
use of Colorsource software. The Escape key allows switching back
to normal Excel display mode.
Colorsource software search for the language at each start:
Each Colorsource application detects your keyboard language and
configures the appropriate language at first launch. You have to
save your application ("Ctrl s" or File/Save) for avoiding the
application searching the language at each following launch.
MagicPress, MagicPrepress and CMYK_Print_&_Proof offer me
all traditional ISO 12647-2, ISO 12647-3, ISO 12647-4 and ISO
12647-6 target Lab colors, but I want to match “Euroscale.icc”
target colors!
Please see in “MagicPress and MagicPrepress_users_guide.pdf” how
to compute your own color targets from your target ICC profiles and
record them as colorimetric CGATS measurement files.
