FROM THE VICAR’S DESK

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

“Greetings to you all in the name of the resurrected Christ. “

I appreciate the wholehearted support by the parishioners for the lent prayer and

thank the Edavaka Mission members of our pariah for the arrangements. The

fellowship we experienced during the lent prayer and during the Passion Week is

very much appreciable.

Christ, who was resurrected for us promises his peace and presence to the church.

His disciples were filled with His peace when they were in fear. Christ showed his

wounded hands which explains the transparency in His life and he breathed on

them and gave them the power of the Holy Spirit. Finally, he authorized them the

responsibility to preach the word of God -being the mission of the church. Let the

resurrection experience strengthen us to go forward with more confidence in our

Mission.

The new Executive committee has taken charge and I wish them the best during

their tenure. I also thank the 2012 Executive committee and its office bearers for

their dedicated service to the church.

The second week of April is very important in our parish calendar. The Diocesan

Assembly and the Clergy conference is being hosted by our parish. The Mid West

region of our Diocese is having its Jubilee Inauguration ceremony at our Parish on

April 12th

Friday at 5.30 p.m. onwards. Our Diocesan Episcopa will preside over

the meeting and Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilos Suffragan Metropolitan

will be the chief Guest for the Jubilee Celebrations. I request the prayerful

participation of all the parish members in the regional Jubilee celebration.

I would like to bring an important matter to the members of our parish. The

Chicago Mar Thoma Family is going through a tough period. We are here in this

land for the last 40 years and we have more than 320 families in our roll. These

days we struggle to pay the utility bills as we are running the Parish with a

negative balance. If all the parishioners pay their subscription regularly we can go

forward smoothly. The 2013 Executive Committee is planning to visit or meet all

the parish members to take a pledge in this regard. As the Vicar of the Parish, I

humbly request all the members to respond to this need positively.

FROM THE ASSOCIATE VICAR / YOUTH CHAPLAIN’S

DESK

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he

has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ

from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3

Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ opens to us a new hope and vision for our

lives. When I visited the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign last month, I

had the privilege of meeting many college students from our Church. During the

meeting we discussed about the temptations Jesus faced after 40 days of fasting in

the wilderness from the Gospel of Mathew Ch. 4. The challenges that Jesus faced

two thousand years ago may be different but temptations take the same principle

of deceiving our younger generations in this day and age. In order for us to face

the challenges of our lives we need to develop three important aspects in our lives.

Foremost among this is the desire for every youth member to have a personal

relationship with Jesus Christ. Secondly it is to how creatively and meaningfully

Youths can connect their salvation experience to the local parish that they belong

to because to make a commitment towards Jesus Christ also calls for witnessing in

the local context. Thirdly, keep our spiritual nourishment through developing a

disciplined life of prayer, regular study of the word of God, and also participation

in corporate spiritual activities such as worship, youth fellowship meetings and so

on. These are not easy tasks to achieve but St. Paul says in Philippians 4:13, “I

can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” May God bless all of us

especially our younger generation in Chicago to live out the message of

resurrection in their daily lives. I want to bring to your notice some events related

to Youth Fellowship happening in our church in the months of April 2013 and

MID-WEST REGION DIOCESAN SILVER JUBILEE

The mid-west region diocesan silver jubilee celebration will be held at our Church

on April 12th

Friday. The celebration begins with fellowship dinner starting at

05.00 p.m. The silver jubilee meeting will start at 06.30 p.m.

Chief Guest: Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Suffragan Metropolitan.

Yuvajana Sakhyam is celebrating the Silver Jubilee in year 2013. As part of the

jubilee following programs are scheduled for the month of April and May 2013.

A 25 hour jubilee chain prayer will start on Thursday April 4th
