As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 980-343-6480 or at [email protected]. Warmest Regards, Orlando Robinson Happy New Year!! I hope every- one had a restful winter break! I want to thank everyone that partici- pated in our Reedy Creek Cares Initia- tive. Through your generosity we col- lected over 42 blankets for Crisis Min- istry, we collected over 600 canned goods & perishables for Loaves and Fishes, we also collected 46 toys for Toys for Tots and finally we collected some boxes of school supplies & toilet- ries for Queens Creek Elementary School in eastern North Carolina. We should all be proud of the impact that our donations will make throughout our community and beyond. Thank you for making Reedy Creek the school with the big heart. Way to go Rac- coons!! We are now entering the second part of the school year and headed toward our final stretch. It is extremely im- portant that you know how your child is performing academically. Your child’s report card only gives you part of the whole picture. We believe in giving scholars every opportunity to do their best work. This includes turning in late work, correction of wrong answers as well as opportunities to retest and re- work assignments. Additionally, teach- ers provide a high level of differentiated instruction to accommodate scholars’ varied learning levels. As the second quarter report cards come out in the next month, I encour- age you to closely examine your child’s report card. If your child is performing below grade level, contact your child’s teacher for a conference and/or sugges- tions on ways to reinforce learning at home. Remember, success comes from a partnership between school and home. Your support and follow through at home is vital to your child’s school success. A Message From Your Principal... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
In reading, we will wrap up our
nonfiction unit. In the nonfiction
unit the scholars practiced finding
main idea, identifying text struc-
ture, using context clues to figure
out word meaning, and using text
features, such as photographs, cap-tions, subtitles, graphs and maps to
support their reading and under-
standing of nonfiction material.
In writing, we will be wrapping
up the informational writing
unit, by having a writing cele-
bration, where the scholars will
share their writing with their
peers.
In math, we will be starting our
division unit. We will be using a
strategy called the big 7. It is
important for you to continue
working on facts in all four op-
erations for your child to be
successful during this unit.

WELCOME BACK SCHOLARS!!
Reading: We will be reviewing
standards RI 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3 to
prepare for the NC Check-In
which will be the second week of
January. After the NC Check-In,
we will use that data to guide our
instruction for 3rd quarter.
Social Studies: In Social Studies
we will be focusing on various
topics. We will be using Social
Studies topics to address reading
standard RI 5.3.
Math: This month we will learn
how to divide fractions using mod-
els and equations, as well as re-
view all operations with frac-
tions. Once we wrap up fractions,
we will move on to Powers of 10
before learning how to multiply 3-
digit whole numbers by 2-digit
whole numbers.
Science: Weather and Earth Sys-
tems is the focus for sci-
ence. Students will learn weather
and wind patterns that affect the
United States and the globe.
Fifth Grade (2025)
Attendance is very important for academic success! As we go into the second half of the semester, please continue to ensure your
scholar is at school and ready to learn by 8:00 a.m. each day. We will continue to contact you if your scholar has 3, 6 or 10 absences. Please let us know how we can support you in being able to get your scholar to school each day and ready to learn
by 8:00 a.m.
The School Counselors will begin to offer small groups throughout the rest of the
year on a variety of topics to help scholars learn skills that will allow them to be more successful in school. Groups can help scholars with coping skills, finding positive ways to build self-esteem, learn conflict resolution strategies, develop
positive behavior patterns and learn decision-making skills. Scholars will learn to deal with personal issues and therefore, will continue to reach their academic potential. Groups could include Social or Coping Skills, Friendship, Family Changes,
Anger Management or Attendance. Groups are based on teacher, administrator, and/or parent/guardian referral. Parents must sign a permission form for scholars to participate in a group. If you would like to refer your scholar for a group, please contact the School Counselor.
Have a wonderful winter break and enjoy time with family and friends! Ms. Clinton: K-2 grade- [email protected]
