The Club Managers' Association Australia isregistered as an industrial organisation of employeesand, while a responsible union, the CMAA is in theunique position of having its members as bothemployees and as employers in their day­to­daymanagement and administration duties.

Consequently, the Association’s role extends beyonda purely industrial focus to include the advancementand professional growth of its Members and the ClubIndustry. The Association represents professional

managers of clubs, some 2,500 members aroundAustralia who, in NSW alone, manage almost 70% oflicensed clubs.

In this capacity, Club Managers (Members) arerequired to be competent in a diverse range ofadministrative and managerial capacities, includingadvice to Club Directors and implementing all aspectsof the Registered Clubs Act, Corporations Laws andother relevant legislation.

The CMAA was founded on collegial support andfellowship almost 60 years ago and theseimportant foundation stones remain strong todaywith Club Managers around Australia drawing onthe CMAA’s Zone network, Industrial Relationsservices, education and professionaldevelopment opportunities and personal supportsystem to help them deliver the best inprofessional management skills and training tothe Club Industry and the millions of clubmembers around Australia.

The CMAA also supports and participates ininternational events, conferences and educationopportunities with fellow Club Managers in theUnited States, Europe and, more recently, in thebooming hospitality markets across Asia.

As we do today, the Club Industry and the CMAA

have almost continuously faced legislative andpolitical challenges but has met these samechallenges with professionalism and constructive,cohesive responses. We have remained unitedand strong thanks to the CMAA’s commitment toeach individual Member’s circumstances andneeds.

The CMAA was formed in 1955 for managers in the rapidly growingClub Industry to have a meeting place for collegial support and apoint of reference for dealing with issues in their professional lives.

The CMDA was formed in 1984 and is responsible for designing andimplementing the Club Managers' Training System, incorporatingmanagement career paths and training requirements, nationalqualifications, management traineeships and the Club Industry­recognition award, Certified Club Manager (CCM).

The CMDA represents the Club Industry on numerous educationbodies, undertakes industry research and leads in providing modular,competency­based management training for the Club Industry.

The CMDA's basic aim is to ensure individual members and the ClubIndustry reach full potential by maintaining a key role in the ongoingsupply of appropriately trained managers for the industry, and toadvance Club Management as a career.

An integral component in establishing, growing and enhancing theCMAA and CMDA is the “family” of sponsor companies who haveprovided the professional and financial support to deliver on theAssociation’s impressive suite of services and professionaldevelopment programs. CMAA ZonesThe CMAA is divided into 21 Zones spread across NSW, Queensland,Victoria & ACT.

Each CMAA Zone involves Club Managers whose clubs fall within thegeographical boundaries of that Zone.

Individual CMAA Zones, generally, meet quarterly with Members todiscuss relevant local, state and national issues for the Club Industryand ongoing CMAA events & activities.

Each Zone Meeting is followed by a networking function forMembers, Club Directors, Sponsors & trade partners.

As well as Zone Meetings, many Zones stage social events withMembers & Sponsors (e.g. Race Days & Golf Days).

AGE ConferenceThe CMAA has resumed its partnership with the Gaming TechnologiesAssociation (GTA) to co­ordinate and present the Conferencecomponent of the annual Australasian Gaming Expo ­ AGE ­ at theSydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The GTA is a not­for­profit industry association, established in 1990 topromote the development of the manufacturing resources of Australia.

GTA members ­ many of them CMDA Career Development Sponsorsand CMDA National Bursary Program Sponsors ­ provide technologyand equipment to hospitality venues in more than 300 jurisdictionsaround the world.
