CLUE PROJECT
Bloomsburg’s Child Care Center
By Melody Ammenhauser
PROBLEM
Why are current student registration
fees for Bloomsburg’s Child Care Center
significantly lower than non-students?
How could this potentially be positive or
negative for the campus?
PROBLEM
Some students have children before college. After
being faced with that big decision, choosing a college
should be easy, right? Student mothers have to take
into consideration who will be watching their child
while they try to further their education. Luckily,
Bloomsburg University has an excellent child care
center with a very generous fee discount for current
students. But what does this mean for other mothers?

PROBLEM
Do people consider a campus to be
picky if they give current students a
discount for their child care centers?
Or is it all about the advertisement?
METHOD
Ethnography:
Observe them as the public eye
Ask other people for their opinion
Research the child care center.
FINDINGS
Observe
It is winter right now, but in the fall semester the
playground was in full use.
o Students worked with the children.
o They were always supervised
o Never seemed affected by all of the college
students going to and from class
FINDINGS
Ask others
Current college students are in favor of child care
centers.
Most people agreed with the fact that the child care
center in Bloomsburg was cheaper for current students
than non-students.
Current college students considered the child care
center are a positive thing.
FINDINGS
Research
The center takes children from 6 months to
kindergarden age.
Registration fee- $30
Fees for full time (4-5 days a week):
Current Student: Child- $1,696 Infant- $2,266
Non-student: Child- $6,566.25 Infant- $7,242

CONCLUSION
I think if more campuses knew that students are in
favor of the child care centers they would consider
making room for this important building.
I agree with giving a discount to students who are
already giving money to the school by attending
there.2
Bloomsburg could be doing it for advertisement, but
that does not matter as long as the community
benefits from it.3
