Josh was born at Lehigh Valley hospital in 1983, and was raised here in Allentown. His father is de-
ceased and josh has two brothers both older the he, both living here as well.
He went to William Allen High School during his freshman years and finished his academic studies
attaining his GED.
Working at general warehouse jobs before coming here to Clubhouse, he is receiving help with
housing and is looking to get a job through the Clubhouse.
Josh has learned to be more sure of himself and has learned life skills which will help him as he looks
to getting back to work. He looks up to his peers and looks to them for advise and guidance.
Josh wants to become more independent and has found comfort here at Clubhouse. He wants to be
the best he can be and is learning this by taking things one day at a time.
Josh has taken more responsibility for himself and is life. And has accomplished a great deal in a
short period of time. He is thankful for the opportunities he has found here at Clubhouse. His life is
becoming better and better as he individualizes himself and he has a much better outlook about
himself.
Kudos to you Joshua. You are a credit to our Clubhouse.

Treatment Gives Paralyzed Man Use of His Arms and Legs
A man who was paralyzed from the neck down can now operate his wheelchair and hug his family. Kristopher Boesen,
at age 20, became paralyzed from the neck down after a car crash left him with severe injuries to his spine; but his parents
were told he qualified for a clinical study that could help him. To participate he had to give voice conformation, which
meant first weaning himself off the ventilator he needed to breathe and speak.
Through sheer desire, Boesen did so, in five days instead of the usual three weeks. He then became the first person in
California to receive an experiential treatment made of stem cells. The treatment is an injection that consists of 10 mil-
lion AST-OPCI cells, derived from embryonic stem cells. AST-OPCI helps support the healthy functioning of nerve
cells.
A team of Keck Medical Center at the University of Southern California then injected the treatment into Boesen’s dam-
aged cervical spine. Three months later, he was able to do tasks like write his name. Before the treatment, “I couldn’t
drink...Feed myself...text...or pretty much do anything. I was basically just existing.” said Boesen. “And now, after the
stem cell surgery, I’m able to live my life.” Doctors continue to monitor his progress at regular intervals. “All I’ve want-
ed from the beginning was a fighting chance.”

December 2016
The year has been tumultuous in so many ways. Unforeseen changes have affected the Clubhouse and most certainly our country has experienced upheavals such as we have not seen in our lifetime. But come December we are reminded of a time when the world experienced unrest and that we were sent a Savior to teach us how to love again. In a
small stable on a dark night a baby was born and so we hope.
As we end this year let us not end it in fear or distress but instead let us find each other and take solace in the hope that this season brings.
I look forward to many wonderful and exciting possibilities for our Clubhouse and for its
members. Clubhouse is a place of love and belief and hope. We believe in each and eve-ry one of you. We hope you will join us to explore your potential. We are full of love for
all.
Happy Holidays “Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.”

SERVICES UNIT (Second Floor):
The year is soon coming to an end and the
Holiday season is upon us. The Goodwill’s
Christmas party on December 22 is going to be a
great day to socialize, kick back and enjoy the
great food.
Again decorating the clubhouse for the holidays
on Friday November 25th is a great way to get
into the season. We have soooo many
decorations and the members step up every year
to get us into the spirit. We like to thank them
for all their help and the staff as well.
The Employer Recognition Dinner was a great
success. Mike Schlossberg and Sue Walther, our
guest speakers, were great as well as Ron
Kratofil’s speech. The food was great thanks to
Tammy and her crew along with Cheryl Garr.
The mirror is done for Fall/Winter. It will be
sent out soon if you did not get it yet.
The Technology Classes are increasing as Zach is
getting a lot of response for his help. It is
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 and now he has
added Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at
11:15. Thanks Zach!
We sold 68 Bon Ton Books this year for our
fundraiser. Thanks to all who helped and a spe-
cial thanks to Janet Koch for her help also.
Hope to see everyone next year. Happy 2017!

Clubhouse Poem By Jose P.
Loyalty to one and another
Under love it is edified as if it were built on a corner stone
Build each other up with the love of a diamond studded golden heart
Help each other by practicing and exercising the art of the
Samaritan
Offer yourself up to people who you care for and feel emotional with
Under the rays of the morning star may we dwell and may it
illuminate our face
Submit one another out of pure friendship
Excel in life my friend and you will find prosperity and splendor

My (Mis) Adventures in Bethlehem By Ken H.
Last month, my friend Joe from New Jersey
picked me up and we went out to Bethlehem to
the Casino with the intent of having lunch and
doing a little gambling. We ate lunch at the
Carnegie Deli. I had Kielbasa and Pierogis.
Them my friend got a phone call from this man
wanting him to meet him in Doylestown. Aside from being a dentist, Joe has a side business
Called “seeds of India” selling Indian Vegetable
seeds and plants. He had to pick up some cuttings
in Doylestown. After our drive out there we
headed back to the Sands. We only got in a little
gambling when my friend had to leave for an
engagement in Jersey. He left me in Bethlehem
with enough money for bus fare and some
spending money. Unfortunately, I don’t know
much about Bethlehem and couldn’t find the bus
stop. I must have walked two miles in the wrong
direction getting help more lost. When I started seeing the entrance for route 78, I knew I’d better
turn back. With a little assistance from a girl
along the route I finally made my way back to the
bus stop. Hallelujah!

What Does It Mean? By: Diane W.
After your 3 days of orientation into the program, you become a member of Clubhouse for life. You can
come at anytime and leave at anytime. When you feel that the clubhouse has fulfilled your daily needs as a
social rehabilitation facility and your work-ordered day duties that you signed up for has been accomplished
within your unit you make the decision when you need to leave.

Penn State Football
Penn State football has had quite a remarkable season this past year. From going unranked and
unnoticed to being number 7 in the country and winning the Big Ten East Championship. Penn State
closed out their regular season against Michigan State with a winning record of 10-2. The Nittany Li-
ons have shown they can come back from nearly anything. A 14-point deficit to Ohio State, a 10-point
deficit to Indiana and Minnesota and a 2-point deficit to Michigan State. But the big question is will
they be able to defeat the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Championship? The Lehigh Valley’s own
Saquon Barkley, a Whitehall HS graduate, has been a big help to the success of the Nittany Lions. He
has been deemed PSU’s offensive “heartbeat.” He injured his ankle during the Michigan State game
but he says he will be ready for the Big Ten Championship game on December 3rd at 8pm against the
Wisconsin Badgers! We Are!
