Greeter Schedule: Greeters are the members who stand near the badge box and personally, and warmly, welcome everyone to the club meeting. Below is the upcoming schedule. April 2 — Gil Davis & Erik Cornelison April 9 Myco Wilburn & Fran Stephens April 16 — Nick Beightel & Mike Gunter April 23 — Melissa Latham & Jim Giese April 30 — Scott Proper & Brad McCloud May 7 — Katie Myering & Erik Cornelison May 14 — Maria Johnson & Julian Henao May 21 — Sarah Colvin & Brad McCloud May 28 — Ron Harrison & Ky Oday Trivia Answer Last month’s challenge dealt with public opinion. Your challenge was to identify team with the most annoy- ing NFL fans, according to an official NFL survey. The surprising answer was the Seattle Seahawks. Becca Posner was the first with the correct answer. Others who got it right were Eric Tscherter, Andy Nack and Maria Johnson. Wrong answers included #2 New England (guessed by Scott Proper, Melissa Latham, Dave Meyer, Pam Haynes and Dan Stites; #3 Dallas (guessed by Alan Workman); #4 Pitts- burgh (guessed by Steve Stewart and Jason Stansfield) and $5 Philadelphia (guessed by Craig Hall, Gregg Palmer, Harry Griff, Dan Griffin, Larry Jones and Don Kendall). Other wrong guesses were #6 Raiders (regardless of cur- rent city), guessed by Sam Baldwin and Sarah Colvin. Also popular (or rather unpopular) among Lions were: #14 Chicago (Shawna Grieger), #18 Cleveland (Joe O’Con- nor), #26 Panthers (Brad Higginbotham) and #11 Denver (Mike Foster). Worst guess: Manchester United (Scott Fedderson). Elections Coming in April The chaos that is the GJ Lions Board nominations and election is coming next month. If you would like to serve on the Board, please let Deb know at [email protected]. Also, if you would like to nominate someone else, you should also submit that name to Deb in advance of the election process. The nomination process on April 16 comes in two parts. First, members are nominated for 1st Vice President, Secre- tary, Treasurer and Tail Twister/Lion Tamer. Once those slots on the ballot are filled, a second nomination takes place for the Directors, etc. The following week, on April 23, is the actual vote. Program Calendar: April 2 — Fish Hatchery April 9 Community Food Bank (Marsha Kosteva) April 16 — Board Nominations/website update (closed meet- ing) April 23 — Board Election/Membership Rollout (closed meet- ing) April 30 — Grand Mesa Observatory —— Trivia Challenge This month’s theme is romance. New Lion Ron Harrison was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, because his father was in the Navy. For many people, Portsmouth is best known as the child-hood home of Ben Jones, internationally famous as “Cooter” on ‘The Dukes of Hazard” on TV. Ron didn’t stay there long, however, as Navy families fre-quently move. For the most park, he grew up in Dunsmuir in Southern California. The town was immortalized in 2016 by “The Dunsmuir Horror” in Fantasy & Science Fiction Maga-zine, which posited that the town only exists intermittently (like the town in the Broadway musical “Brigadoon”). Next, Ron graduated from Chico State University with a degree in Business Administration. And as the #1 party school in 1982, that context makes Ron’s GPA more impressive. In that era, Mesa State regularly played Chico State in base-ball and football. After college, Ron worked retail in paint and (legal) drugs before becoming a teacher (which required more college, this time at Univ. of Nevada Reno. It was while in Nevada that Ron met his wife Karen from Battle Mountain, Nev. They married in April, 1993. At age 30, Ron became a high school teacher and then moved to Nucla. And of course, Nucla is best known as the hometown of renowned dentist Dr. Laurie Stein. At Nucla High School, Ron taught social studies, business and technology. He also coached basketball and track. It was during years in Nucla that Ron and Karen got to know Grand Junction from their monthly trips to the big city to get supplies. After 15 years as a teacher, Ron became a “free agent,” working for grant projects and, more important, National Geo-graphic training. He also spent eight months on the Sea of Cor-tez teaching on a beach fishing village. This was in a therapeutic school for rich American children. There is no evidence that any of these kids later bribed their way into Yale. Ron and Karen have two kids: Matthew, age 31, manages a

large Five Guys franchise in Anaheim; Robert, age 23, works in an underground gold mine in Elko, Nev. In 2007, Ron and Karen moved to GJ to have access to big-ger schools and athletic programs for their teenage son Robert (who played basketball with young superstar Nick Beightel). In August of last year, Ron joined the GJ Lions because of sponsor Ky Oday, whom he met through athletics. Ron and Karen own Unlimited Success Financial, which they started in 2011. They work with Five Rings as a broken dealer for their line of insurance products, including living bene-fits and retirement products. In his free time, Ron also works with a 501(c)3 organiza-tion called FREE Foundation. They promote educational oppor-tunities for teachers and students focused on Capitalism and the Free Enterprise System.
