Meet the Enterprise App Store

It’s a consumer-friendly Web portal through which end users can access, download and install software applications.

It’s also the low-hanging fruit of cloud-based apps: 31% of companies are currently doing it and 26% are planning it.

You can build or purchase a ‘white label’ application store that is created, maintained and managed by a third party.

The Lure of Self-Service Catalogs

Enterprises are building a self-service catalog function for selecting and automatically provisioning infrastructure resources. This accessible approach echoes the advantages of consumer portals.

Not surprisingly, it is quickly gaining momentum: 28% of enterprises in the cloud computing study are deploying self-service catalogs and another 26% are in the planning stages.

Rise of ‘Best Execution Venue’ Strategies

Enterprises may employ BEV experts to make smart decisions about where to run applications, and from where to source cloud services.

To operate in a multi-vendor cloud, enterprises must be willing to own fewer assets but be good at managing hosted resources with cloud management and automation tools.

Some enterprises will hire ‘cloud brokers’ to manage and negotiate cloud services business relationships.

Cloud Governance

‘Governance’ refers to the use of an orchestration platform that enables dynamic placement of workloads based on policy. Overall, 13% of sites surveyed have adopted these tools, but another 33% have it in their plans, which is also evident in a sharp rise in 2014 enterprise spending plans for this technology.
