‣ Fraction of the cost
Page 14
Video Clip Captioning
‣ Produce child captions automatically using an algorithm to detect the
edit points from parent asset.
14
Page 15
How Does It Work?
‣ Break the parent and child media into shorter segments
‣ Create a “fingerprint” for each segment
‣ Search parent fingerprints to find matching segments in the child

What Content Does It Work On?
‣ Straight excerpt
‣ Montage
– No hard limit to the number of clips
– Clips can be in a different order from the
original content
‣ English and Spanish content
– FCC compliance
‣ Other languages, mixed language
‣ Retains caption framing and positioning
information from parent captions
24
Page 25
What Are Its Limitations?
‣ Requires accurately timed input captions
– Assumes accurate source captions
– Cannot re-time input captions to source
• Look into our Transcript Alignment service!
‣ Cannot capture missing content
– Added transitions / SFX
– Extra narratives (e.g., “next week, we will see …”)
25
Page 26
Best Practices
‣ Use accurate parent captions
– Recommend WebVTT, DFXP, and other run-time based
formats
‣ Use files with good audio quality
– Low video quality to save bandwidth is OK.
‣ Works best on content with minimal editing
– Straight excerpt, mashups without additional content
– Added background music can be problematic
