Grant Imahara brings the world of animatronics, special effects, pop culture, and science alive as he shares what he has learned about engineering, modelmaking, and innovation in Hollywood.

Grant is the co-host of the Netflix original series, “White Rabbit Project,” and a special FX modelmaker who has reached celebrity status in animatronics engineering. On “White Rabbit Project,” Grant and his co-stars investigate the science behind the greatest inventions, the most daring heists, and unusual pop culture events in American history. Prior to Netflix, he was one of the hosts of the popular, long-running, Emmy-nominated science reality show “Mythbusters.”

Before becoming a Mythbuster, Grant was a modelmaker and animatronics engineer at George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic, where he worked in movie special effects. At ILM, he worked on 11 feature films, including Star Wars: Episodes 1-3, A.I. Artificial, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

The creator of the popular fighting robot “Deadblow” as seen on Comedy Central’s “Battlebots,” he distilled his expert insights on metal gladiator-design-build in the book, “Kickin’ Bot: An Illustrated Guide to Building Combat Robots.”

With a showman’s charisma and sense of scientific curiosity, Grant gives others a mesmerizing behind-the-scenes look at his work on “Mythbusters” and Star Wars, as well as the world of engineering and innovation in entertainment.

OCTOBER 13 - NOVEMBER 17Gallery Exhibit - Each state of mind is irreducible: Spanish & Latin American ArtistsJournal Square Campus, Dineen Hull Gallery, Library Building, 6th FloorWhen focusing on artists of Spanish and Latin American heritage, it is not enough to use blanket terms like “Spanish,” Hispanic,” or “Latinx” to classify these artists and their work. With geographical and cultural breadth encompassed within what we call Spanish and Latin American “heritage,” it is nearly impossible, and quite irresponsible, to attempt to define all elements often identified with these cultures. However, it is important to understand and celebrate Spanish and Latin American heritage, and examine their roles within American culture. Understanding and celebration often comes in the form of art, and therefore, each state of mind is irreducible: Spanish & Latin American Artists offers a lens into how artists living in the U.S. grapple with their roots.Artist Reception: Friday, November 17, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
