Approved
The gamma/b meteringpumps are registeredaccording to DIN-VDE0700 and protectedagainst radiointerference class Baccording to DIN-VDE0871.
The electronic control circuit,equipped with 2 microprocessors,enables a tailor-made solution forevery application.
The basic version allows manual orexternal pulse control. Pumpoptions, accept nearly any cus-tomer-specific control signal. Theoperational reliability of the pumpcan be increased by a variety ofmonitoring equipment.
The LCD display is illuminated forvisibility in low light areas andprovides simple and concise userguidance. The LCD also displaysthe actual operating status andwarns the operator of possiblefaults.
The pump housingAttractive, functional constructionof fiberglass-reinforced PPE plastic, the NEMA 4x housing offersmaximum protection againstcorrosion, dust and water.
The solenoid driveThe solenoid drive has only onemoving part, the armature. Thepower end consists of a short-stroke solenoid with a maximumstroke length of 0.05" (1.25 mm),
and is equipped with a noisesuppressing mechanism for quietoperation.
The stroke-length adjustingmechanism is directly connected tothe solenoid. Operation results inan accurate self-locking strokelength setting.
The pump diaphragmThe DEVELOPAN® compositediaphragm consists of high-quality,nylon-fabric reinforced EPDMvulcanized onto a steel core, and isPTFE-faced on the liquid contactsurface for extremely long servicelife. The DEVELOPAN diaphragm ischemically resistant against virtuallyall process fluids, and can be usedover a wide temperature range.
An air gap behind the diaphragm, created by a back plate with weephole, followed by a secondarysafety diaphragm prevents chemi-cal intrusion into the solenoidhousing in the event of maindiaphragm failure.
The liquid endLiquid ends for the gamma/bmetering pump are available in 4standard material versions:
The suction and discharge portsare equipped with double ballcheck valves for maximum repeat-ability (except high viscositymodels PP4 and PP5, and versions0423 and 0230 with single ballvalves). Versions 1000-0417 PP1,PP2, PP3, and NP1, NP2, NP3,liquid ends provide a coarse bleedvalve for easy priming and a finebleed valve for continuous bleedingof fluids that tend to off-gas toprevent airlock. Automatic gasbleed-off is available with the NS/PS self-degassing liquid ends foreight gamma/4b models.
Special polypropylene liquid ends(PP4 and PP5) are available onversions 1002, 1006, 1310 and0813 for high viscosity fluids. These are equipped with anincreased flow profile and largerspring-loaded single ball valves.
Wide margin of power supply voltageThe gamma/b metering pumpsaccept either 115 or 230 voltpower, single phase, 50/60 Hz, witha 1.15 service factor. Performanceis identical whether operated on50 Hz or 60 Hz power.

THE BASIC VERSION
Note: The capabilities listed onthis page are common to allgamma/b pumps. The cable forexternal pacing or remotepause is an optional accessory,as are the float switch, flowmonitor and relay outputs.
Stroke frequency control
Continuous operation –“Manual”
The pump capacity can be variedvia the stroke length knob (from 0to 100% stroke length), and byvarying the stroking rate via the up/down arrows on the keypad. Seethe Technical Data for a particularmodel's maximum stroking rate,(e.g. 100, 120, or 180 strokes perminute). The selected stroking rateis shown on the LCD display and isperformed with quartz-like accu-racy. The gamma/b manual controlrange permits 1000:1, 1200:1, or1800:1 turndown, depending onmaximum stroke rate. The simu-lated LCD display below showsmanual control with frequency of120 strokes per minute.
External pacing – “Contact”The gamma/b series can be pacedexternally (e.g. by means of apulse-type water meter for propor-tional chemical feed). The pulsesignals are fed into the contactinput of the pump by an optionalcontrol cable. Every pulse from awater meter or pulse-type controllerproduces one pump stroke, up tothe pump's maximum stroke rate.Over-stroking the pump is notpossible. LCD display shows “E”for external contact pacing.
stops, the display flashes “Error”and “Flow” as shown below, andthe red LED lights. The optionalfault relay changes state to issue analarm or activate a standby pump.
Remote pause
Remote on/off control –“Pause”
The gamma/b series can beswitched on or off via a form-C drycontact through the optionalcontrol cable. The pump operateson a closed contact; if the contactis open, the pump stops and thedisplay shows “Pause” and “Stop”.
Problem identification
Auto-fault diagnosis
The electronic control circuit of thegamma/b series monitors itselfcontinuously. Any fault of themicroprocessor stops the pumpand issues an alarm (with faultannunciating relay option). TheLCD readout flashes and the redLED lights.
Lighting
The backlit LCD screen makes thedisplay easy to read, even in poorlylit locations.
Ensure fluid flow
Chemical tank float switch –“Minimum”
An optional two-stage ProMinentfloat switch can be plugged intothe pump to monitor chemicallevels in the source tank. An earlywarning will be issued when theallowable minimum level isreached. The pump continues tooperate while the display flashes“Minimum," a red LED lights andan optional collective fault relaychanges state to issue an alarm. Ifthe liquid level in the supply tankdrops another 3/4" (20 mm), thepump automatically shuts downand the LCD displays “Error” and“Minimum” as shown below. Theoptional fault relay remainsactivated.
Flow monitor – “Flow”
The gamma/b series meteringpumps will monitor their ownoutput, with the optional adjustableflow monitor connected to thedischarge valve and plugged intothe front of the pump. (Note: onsizes 0423 and 0230, the flowmonitor must be mounted on adischarge bypass line). Every fluiddischarge is sensed and fed backto the electronic control circuit ofthe pump. If insufficient fluid isdischarged for 8 consecutivestrokes, the pump automatically

CONTROL VERSIONSAND OPTIONS
Control versions and optionscan be selected to suit yoursystem's specific needs.
Analog control
With this option, the stroking rate ofthe gamma/b is directly propor-tional to the analog signal. Themaximum number of strokes perminute corresponding to the analogsignal range can be selected by theoperator. Input signals can bespecified when ordering with the“Identity code” (e.g. 0-20 mA, 4-20mA, 0-60 mV, 0-1 V, 0-10 V).Inverse analog (20-4 mA/20-0 mA)is also available.
Pulse multiplier/divider
This feature is used to “tune” thegamma/b to contact generators ofany kind (e.g. pulse-type watermeter or process controller), andeliminate the need for a costlyexternal control unit. The followingfunctions can be selected bymeans of the keypad.
Pulse step-up (multiply) andstep-down (divide)
By simply entering a factor in the0.01-9999 range, the step-up orstep-down ratio is set.
Customize the gamma/b.You select the control versions and options required.
Predetermining counter –“N ↔↔↔↔↔”
The pulse multiplier/divider featureis used as a predetermining counterfor batch applications. Up to 9999strokes can be predetermined. TheLCD screen displays the number ofstrokes yet to be completed. Thecountdown starts by a voltage-freecontact on the optional externalcontrol cable or by pressing the “P”key. Larger batches up to 65,535strokes are also possible; forexample, 59,994 strokes may beperformed by providing six contacts(6 x 9999) in memory mode.
Memory – “Mem.”
Should the pump receive contactsignals faster than the selectedstroking rate, these pulses can bestored in the gamma's memory (toa maximum limit of 65,535) andworked off at the preset strokingrate.
Stroke counter – “N”
This feature totalizes pump strokesthat have been performed. Thecounter resets itself to 1 and acursor appears on the LCD screenwhen 9999 strokes have beenaccumulated. This totalizer can beused in manual, contact, and analogmodes.
Timer
The optional integrated timerfunction allows up to 31 variableon-off times to be programmeddaily, or over the course of a 7-dayperiod. The “on-time” can beselected between 1 minute and 24hours. Typical applications includetime feeding of biocides for coolingtowers, brewery pasteurizers, etc.The timer can be used in conjunc-tion with manual, contact or analogcontrols such that those functions

Auto-Degassing gamma/4b Pumps
The only choice for pumpingfluids that out-gas.
Many fluids, such as sodiumhypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide,out-gas as they are drawn into thesuction line of a metering pump orif the pump sits idle for a length oftime. The gas accumulates in theliquid end and is compressed witheach discharge stroke, causing airlock and loss of flow.
A special bleed valve in thegamma/4 auto-degassing pumpopens at low pressure to allow thegas to be evacuated on eachdischarge stroke. It closes at highpressure, as when fluid is present, causing the fluid to be dischargedthrough the pump's dischargevalve.
This allows the gamma pump toself-prime against its ratedbackpressure and eliminates theneed to relieve pressure on thedischarge line to reprime. Thisfeature is commonly used for drum-mounted pumps, allowing thepump to continue operation whilethe suction line is pulled out of onedrum and dropped into another.
Identity codes for material optionsare NS2 (Acrylic/PVC/EPDM), NS3(Acrylic/PVC/Viton®) and ES1 (PP/EPDM), ES3 (PP/Viton®). Sizes
