Introduction Thistrainershandbookisintendedtobeasupplementaryresourcetoaschoolsongoingtrainingefforts.Itcanbeused

inmanydifferentwaysbutisn’tdesignedtobeafullyfinishedplugandplaytrainingprogram,askischoolprogression,oraskischoolhandbook/manual.Therearesomepiecesthatcanbepulledoutandusedasstandaloneitems,butit’srecommendedthatyoupreviewandpersonalizethemforbestsuccess.

Therearethreemainsections:

• TheCalendarisprovidedtohelpvisualizeandorganizetheseasonasawhole.Dividingitintothreephasesto

recognizethattrainingneedsvaryastheseasonprogresses.ClinicCategories/BroadTrainingAreasarelistednexttotheCalendartoinsurethattrainingiscoveringthespectrumofneeds,ratherthanbeingareactiontorequestsorwhat’spopularandeasy.Sampleclinictopicsarealsolisted,whichcanbepostednexttothe

day/dateonthecalendar.Thesearesimplysuggestionsandcanbemodifiedtobestmeetyourneeds.DivisionalEventshavebeenenteredintothecalendarbasedonthe2015-16season.

DividingtheSeasonintoTrainingPhasesTheCalendarisdividingintothreephasestoindicatetheneedfordifferentemphasisthroughtheyear.ThePre-seasoniseverythingbeforetheChristmasholidays,or,forconcessionschools,anytimebeforethefirstsession.Theprimary

focuswillbenewhire/rookietraining,andrefreshertrainingforreturningstaff.TheMainseasonstartsaftertheholiday,oroncetheconcessionprogrambegins,untilearlyMarch/whenconcessionprogramsend.Traininginthisperiodcanbereadilyimplementedbylinestaffforimmediatesuccesswiththeirstudents.ThePost/certificationseasonstartsinearly

Marchwhenbusinessisdiminishingandprogramsareover.Thisisatimeforhoningandpolishingforexamsbecausethebenefitsofongoingtrainingarereducedsincetheseasonisnearingcompletion.

DividingYourClinicsintoTrainingCategoriesThecategoriesarelabeledas“BroadTrainingAreas”nexttothecalendar.They’refairlyselfexplanatoryandarecolorcodedtogiveaneasyvisualreferencetoshowifyourclinicscheduleisbalancedormoreheavilyweightedinonearea.

TheemphasisondifferentCategorieschangesbasedonthephaseoftheseason.Divisionaleventsareacategoryontheirownregardlessoftopic.Theyareveryvaluablebecausethey’reallday(ormultiday)eventsandareledbyhighlycredentialedclinicleaders.

ResidentandConcessionSchoolsResidentschoolsandconcessionschoolswillneedtoadaptthismaterialtotheirparticularsituationsandneeds.

Generallyspeaking,residentschoolswillmoreclinicsoverawidervarietyoftopicsbecausetheirstaffisavailableformoredaysduringtheseason.Concessionschoolsmaybeabletoofferlongerclinicsondaysbefore/aftertheirteachingschedule,butwillchoosetofocusonmorecoresubjectsthatareimmediatelyapplicabletotheirprograms.
