THE INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (IISD) is a global think tank working to create a sustainable future in our changing climate. With a focus on helping people and the planet make progress, we work because the world needs our action.

Governments rely on their National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to make their communities, ecosystems, and economies more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

The NAP Global Network works with partners in the world’s most vulnerable countries to develop and implement these plans for a more secure future. Established in 2014, its secretariat is hosted by IISD.

Often underfunded and overstretched, the governments of developing countries need help to protect their citizens from a crisis not of their making. To name a couple...

In ETHIOPIA, with our support, the government is better positioned to implement social protection systems, introduce climate-smart agriculture, and improve access to potable water, while promoting gender equality.

In COLOMBIA, people fight every day to survive heatwaves, floods, and new diseases. We work with the government to pilot early warning systems that lessen the impact of heavy rains and drought on household water supplies and sewage systems.

WHY WE NEED

ADAPTATIONPLANNING.

Over 120 developing countries have started adaptation planning and urgently need continued support.

THE NAP GLOBAL NETWORK WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

40countries have received technical assistance

2700+people have been trained on climate change adaptation

200+government institutions have strengthened capacities in adaptation planning

TODAY, THE NAP GLOBAL NETWORK CONNECTS OVER 1,200 PARTICIPANTS FROM MORE THAN 140 COUNTRIES.

FROM KNOWLEDGE TO ACTION We provide the resources and opportunities needed by governments to move forward with their vision for climate resilience. Our support includes:

• EMBEDDED EXPERTISE: Ensuring that our partners have the knowledge and skills they need to effectively adapt.

• LEARN ABOUT THE MOST EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS: Bringing government actors from different countries together to learn about the most efficient practices for their situation.

• TARGETED ANALYSIS: Supporting evidence-based decision-making.

• OPERATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS: Providing hands-on support when needed to help strategize, implement, and communicate adaptation actions.

““Climate hazards are nothing new, but our ability to respond has been stretched due to their increased frequency, ferocity, and impacts.” - JANEEL MILLER-FINDLAY, Director, Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Sustainable Development and Information Technology, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

“Climate change is a pervasive issue affecting every aspect of Fiji’s development. Consequently, we support all Ministries and Departments to mainstream climate change concerns into their work.”

- SHIVANAL KUMAR, Ministry of Economy, Fiji
