THE PROJECT Located in East Melbourne on a compressed inner-city campus, ACU’s progressive acquisition of buildings to meet student demand resulted in a disconnected campus and low student engagement. The lack of student amenity on campus was also impacting student engagement. Commissioning a masterplan for the campus, ACU sought to expand faculty buildings, while creating a long-term plan for a connected and cohesive campus. The retail strategy helped frame the ground plane strategy for a connected campus, which would improve student life and commercial outcomes at ACU through human-focused design and planning. OUR ROLE Working closely with the University and student body, The Maytrix Group developed a retail strategy responding to student needs, to drive student engagement and satisfaction. The retail strategy helped shaped the masterplan process, creating, activating and connecting public spaces. This strategic approach to planning and contracting retail operations has been adopted University- wide, and is being progressing implemented across the University’s seven campuses around Australia. Implementing stage 1 of the masterplan, we worked closely with the consultant team to scope and plan the retail, student and staff zones. The realisation of stage 1 of the masterplan transformed student engagement and satisfaction. Revenue and return to the University increased 400% and continue to grow. The creatively inspired facilities enhanced arrival to the campus, and had a significant positive impact on campus culture. • THE PROJECT

Located in East Melbourne on a compressed inner-city campus, ACU’s progressive acquisition of buildings to meet student demand resulted in a disconnected campus and low student engagement.

    OUR ROLE

Working closely with the University and student body, The Maytrix Group developed a retail strategy responding to student needs, to drive student engagement and satisfaction. The retail strategy helped shaped the masterplan process, creating, activating and connecting public spaces. This strategic approach to planning and contracting retail operations has been adopted University-wide, and is being progressing implemented across the University’s seven campuses around Australia.
