2017 CRS Rice Bowl Family Challenge: “Lent is the favorable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in his Word, in the sacraments and in our neighbor.” (Pope Francis, 2017) At the end of the day, we’re each called to respond to Pope Francis’ invitation to build the culture of encounter in our own unique ways. We hope CRS Rice Bowl Family Challenge can be a part of your Lenten journey, as we all encounter ourselves, our neighbors, and our God anew. There still is time to participate in the 2017 CRS Rice Bowl Family Challenge being sponsored by the diocesan Marriage and Family Life and Social Concerns offices. For more information and the family challenge form go to http://socialconcerns.colsdioc.org.
Sunday, April 9, 2017Palm Sunday Masses: attend weekend mass of your choicePalm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week; it is known as such because the faithful receive palm fronds which are used to reenact Christ’s triumphant arrival in Jerusalem days before He was crucified.
Holy Thursday, April 13, 2017Holy Thursday Mass at 7 p.m. in the Church.
Night Watch before the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapel until midnight.Holy Thursday is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when He established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to His arrest and crucifixion. It also commemorates His institution of the priesthood. There is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament by the people during the night, just as the disciples stayed with the Lord during His agony on the Mount of Olives before the betrayal of Judas.
Good Friday, April 14, 2017Good Friday Liturgy at 3:00 p.m. in the Church.
Good Friday is the day when Catholics commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday Liturgy includes Veneration of the Cross. Good Friday is a day of fasting and abstinence for Catholics.
Holy Saturday, April 15, 2017Morning Prayer Service at 9:00 a.m. in the Church.
The Church meditates on the passion and death of Jesus Christ and awaits His resurrection with prayer; The Ephphetha Rite in which the presider touches the ears and the mouth of the Elect and prays that they be open to hear and proclaim the word of God in faith is celebrated as part of the preparation rites.
Rehearsal for the Easter Vigil immediately following Morning Prayer in the Church. All those preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil, along with their godparents/
sponsors, will rehearse the logistics for this Mass.Easter Vigil at dusk; specific time to be announced

Sixth Sunday of Lent
The ROSARY…and a lot to think about…
The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary are as follows: The agony in the garden, The scourging at the pillar, The crowning with thorns, The carrying of the cross, and finally, The crucifixion and the death of Our Lord. When you really focus on them, you get a lump in your throat. Now, shift your thoughts to the Old Plantation Hymn that was written back in 1899…the title: WERE YOU THERE? Hum it in your mind. “Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Repeat: Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Oh-oh-oh-oh, Sometimes, it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble, Were you there when they crucified my Lord?” The melody is truly haunting…as it was meant to be. Shift your thoughts once again, this time to Our Lord’s Blessed Mother. The horror and anguish that she must have felt are beyond comprehension. Finally, think of the world in which we live today. Think of Our Lady of Fatima, the Third Apparition and Mary’s words…mankind must stop offending Our Lord with
sin because He is already “too much offended.” Fatima took place one hundred years ago. Today, Our Lord must be livid from the actions of man. Holy Week has arrived. The time is now…….to drop to our knees in prayer.Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.
