Scorecarding - Concept A Scorecard is the communication vehicle to assess the organisation performance according to its strategic objectives & initiatives A scorecard helps answering questions like the following: • Where is the organisation going? • How will we get there? • What is critical to my success? • How am I doing against my goals?




Scorecards Use & KPIs Implication

• Scorecards simultaneously define the objectives and initiatives that form your strategy to which you assign KPIs to measure progress and performance

• Define target numeric ranges to evaluate the values of KPIs

within corporate or department-level objectives and initiatives • Graphically communicate strategy and strategic dynamics using

strategy maps, cause & effect maps, custom views, and strategy trees

• Discuss the implementation and status of objectives and

initiatives by adding, reading, and replying to comments

What’s a KPI?

• A KPI represents the result of a business measure evaluated against a target for that measure

• You can use KPIs to assess the performance of the strategic objectives and initiatives that form levels of organizational strategy




KPI - in Oracle BI EE

• Evaluate metrics against their targets and alert the

appropriate users via agents when targets are not met

• A KPI can allow the user to drill into different levels of details based on the KPI's dimensions

• Create Watch list to display trends, actual value and target in one same view

• Within Oracle Scorecard use KPIs to evaluate and monitor the performance of the objectives that form the strategy and the initiatives (tasks/projects) that are needed to meet your objectives




KPI - Characteristics

• Have measurable values that usually vary with time

• Are evaluated using targets to determine a score and performance status

• Can be compared over time for trending purposes that enable you to identify performance patterns

Creating a KPI & Scorecard

The steps to create a KPI & Scorecard are:

• Create a KPI

• Add KPI into Scorecard




Create a KPI

• On the global header, select New and then KPI

• From the Select Subject Area dialog, select SampleSales subject area for the KPI

• The KPI wizard appears on the General Properties screen




General Properties

• Choose the Actual Value from the drop-down list, select ‘1- Revenue’:

F(x): "Base Facts"."1- Revenue“

• Choose the Target Value from the drop-down list, select ‘5- Target Revenue’:

F(x): "Base Facts"."5- Target Revenue"




General Properties

• Check the Enable trending option which shows up the Compare to prior and Tolerance fields allowing you to compare KPIs for prior periods and indicate a variance in performance.

• In the Compare to prior drop-down list, expand the Time folder and select

• "Time"."T02 Per Name Month" to compare with the prior month.

• Enter 2 in the Tolerance field and select % Change from the drop-down list.

Actual value

Actual value > +1%

Actual value < -1%




General Properties

• The General Properties screen will look like following:

• Click Next button to move to Dimensionality Screen




Dimensionality

• The Dimensionality screen allows you to aggregate KPI values, target values, and ranges, using dimensions in the subject area

• You can set specific values which essentially filter the results, a process called pinning

• Add the Time and the Product hierarchies as below:

• Click Next button to move to Threshold Screen




Thresholds

• The Thresholds screen allows you to indicate whether high, low, or target values are desirable; to specify ranges and status symbols for performance; to create or assign actions based on KPI status, and so on

• The Goal section provides a drop-down list that indicates a specific level of performance. Ensure that the defaults, High Values are Desirable, are selected.

• The Threshold section allows you to specify numerical values or measures that separate performance levels. In the first drop-down list, which is associated with the WARNING status, select the function image fx icon and copy the following expression

"Base Facts"."5- Target Revenue” * 0.94

• In the second drop-down list, which is associated with the CRITICAL status, select the function image fx icon and copy the following expression

"Base Facts"."5- Target Revenue” * 0.92




Thresholds

• When applying the changes the final picture should looks like:

• Click Next button to move to Related Documents Screen

• Refer to extra documents from the Catalog or Link for guiding the users to further information about the current KPI

• The final picture should looks like:




Display results

• Click the Finish button and save in My Folder the KPI named Revenue vs Target KPI

• Go to home page and open the KPI to see the results that should be similar to the image below:
