have to take.
Trash Chute
Cleaning
• A trash chute is a vertical
duct in a building.
• It has side take-offs.
• It is open at the bottom.• The driving force is gravity.
• Because the world is not
perfect, nor is sealing, it is also an air duct that conveys
air.
• Natural air flow is upwards
from the bottom.
Trash Chute
Cleaning
• Guess
what’s at
the bottom?
• Guess what it smells like?

• This is what a
trash chute looks like before it is
fully sealed in construction. It
is normally
surrounded on all sides by block
wall.

• This is a diagram of a
trash chute offset fitting
available for purchase
through a manufacturer. Offsets in trash chutes
are bad business. There
is language in various portions of building code that require shafts NOT
to have offsets.

• The top of a proper
trash chute shaft
coming out of a roof.• It has a ventilated rain
cap on top.
• In old converted
building stock, it may not terminate straight
up out a roof.

How do you clean a Trash Chute?
• The “contaminant” is hardened,
putrified garbage amongst other
things.• Left over paint is frequently found
inside.
• Unless you have a chute on a regular
cleaning schedule, you have no idea how long that has been hardening.
