Differences between AP and Honors

College Prep courses (a-g approved) satisfy college entrance requirements.

Honors courses are usually more rigorous than CP. Classes move a little faster and go into more in depth. May have additional or higher level projects.

AP stands for Advanced Placement. Students in these courses essentially are doing college level work.

At the end of the year, in May, these students are expected to take an subject-specific AP exam, given by College Board.

Depending on their grade and the college they attend students may be able to receive college credit.

Each AP/Honors course will require several hours of individual study time per week outside of class on a regular basis.

Time commitment expectations charts

Successful AP/Honors students are task-orientated, proficient readers, and able to prioritize their time.

Students will be required to complete summer work as assigned by each individual AP/Honors teacher.

Students enrolling in AP classes are expected to take the AP examination in May. The cost will be approximately $91.00 per test.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS

Students who enroll in AP/Honors classes are expected to honor their commitment to complete the course and not drop after enrollment. (This applies to students who earn an “F” grade.)

Note: Students who do not complete summer work are still expected to complete the course.
