Classifying Organisms

Classifying LifeThere are many different living things on Earth. All things that are living are called organisms.Organisms come in different sizes, shape and forms and they all have different behaviors and food needs. However they all share similar traits that categorize them as living things.

How are organisms categorized?Every living thing on Earth is categorize in a similar manner:Atoms

Molecules

Cells

Organs

Organ systems

Organisms

AtomsAtoms are the smallest unit of all matter. It is non-living.Atoms are composed of neutrons, protons and electrons.

Atoms join other atoms to form molecules. Molecules are a group of atoms held together by a chemical bond.

ElectronProtonNeutronMoleculeAtoms MoleculesA molecule is two or more bonded atoms. Molecules form larger substances, compounds.Molecules are non-living.When more than one atom join,It forms macromolecules. These are large molecules thatForm fats, carbohydrates,Proteins and more insideOf organisms cells.

Molecules OrganellesThese large molecules that form fats, protein and carbohydrates form tiny organelles.Organelles are tiny organ like structures. These organelles make up cells. They are found inside of the cells of living organisms.

Organelles CellsCells are made of organelles.Cells are the basic unit of structure and function of living organisms.Cells are livings.

Cells Tissue The same kinds of cells work together. These cells form tissues.

Tissue OrgansTissues are a bunch of cells that work together. Tissues form organs in living organisms such as heart, lungs and skin.Organs are living parts of organisms.

LungsX-ray of brainOrgans Organ systemsOrgans that work together are called organ systems. In a living organisms organ systems are respiratory system (how an organism breathes, includes lungs), circulatory system (how blood is pumped through the organism, includes heart) and more. These organ systems work together to allow living organism to function.

Respiratory SystemOrgan system organismsOrgan systems make up living organisms. Living organisms are made of different kinds of organ systems.Humans have respiratory organ systems, circulatory organ system, endocrine system (hormones), digestive system. All these systems make up one organisms.

Organization of living things The organization of living things can go further than just how an organism is made.It goes further, organized by populations, communities, ecosystems and biomes on Earth.Populations is the same type of organism living together. A population of humans, cats, birds, bacteria, etc..

Population CommunityCommunities are different kinds populations interacting with one another.Ducks swimming in a lake interact with fishes, flies, bugs, plants etc

Community Ecosystem An ecosystem is the different communities and factors of the environment together.Non living factor such as water, soil, air and sunlight interacting with living factors such as fishes, plants, bugs, birds.

Ecosystems BiomesBiomes are similar ecosystems on Earth that are together. Types of forest, types of deserts, types of water biomes.

Biomes BiospheresBiospheres are the different layers around Earth. Hydrosphere (water) the lithosphere (soil) the atmosphere (air), the ecosphere (all living things). All the biomes put together fall under different biospheres on Earth.
