CLASSIFICATION OF ACETABULAR

FRACTURESDr. Ayesha Mughal

Page 2: Classification of acetabular fractures

INTRODUCTION: Described Judet and Letournel. Most commonly used system. Two basic types:Simple fracture type.Associated fracture type.

Page 4: Classification of acetabular fractures

SIMPLE FRACTURE: Isolated fracture of one wall or column.

Page 5: Classification of acetabular fractures

SIMPLE FRACTURE TYPES: Posterior wall fracture. Posterior column fracture. Anterior wall fracture. Anterior column fracture. Transverse fracture.

ASSOCIATED FRACTURES: More complex fracture geometry.

T-type fractures. Combined fracture of posterior column and wall. Combined transverse and posterior wall fracture. Anterior column and posterior hemitransverse fracture. Both column fracture.

CLASSIFICATIN OF HIP DISLOCATION: Based on:Relationship of femoral head to acetabulum.Associated fractures.

Page 10: Classification of acetabular fractures

THOMAS AND EPSTEIN CLASSIFICATION: Type I: Posterior dislocation with or without an insignificant posterior wall fragment. Type II: Dislocation associated with single large posterior wall fragment. Type III: Dislocation with comminuted posterior wall fragments.

CONTINUED……… Type IV: Dislocation with fracture of the acetabular floor. Type V: Dislocation with fracture of the femoral head.
