TheClassicalGreekDanceAssociationwasfoundedinAugust1923inordertostandardiseandextendthismethodofdancingunderfullyqualifiedteachers.InJuly1951thisAssociationwasaffiliatedtotheImperialSocietyofTeachersofDancing.GENERALPUBLICATIONS-AvailablefromISTDSalesDepartmentBooks

Each childwill receive an individual report and resultwhichwill reflect their own achievementgained. The teacherwill conduct the examination and introduce each candidate by name to the examiner. ClassicalGreekDancemakesadistinctivecontributiontotheeducationofallstudents, inthat itusesmovement,which is thefundamentalmodeofhumanexpression. Itoffersa rangeof learningopportunitiesandenablesparticipants toenjoyphysicalexpressionaswellasdevelopintellectualsensibilities.AstheyworktogetherinClassicalGreekDance,candidateslearnaboutco-operationanddevelopanunderstandingoftheshapingofmovementintoartisticformsofexpression.
Candidates develop the skill and understanding of Classical Greek Dance, at the same time as building sound technique, bydevelopingthephysicalabilitytocommunicatethroughmovementinanexpressiveandartisticway.
Aclearlydefinedstructureallowslearningtotakeplaceinthecontextofsafedancepractice.TheGradedExaminationsbuildupprogressively, ensuring that steps and skills learned at lower levels prepare for more complex movements as the candidateprogresses.
Following on from the Graded Examinations, candidates may wish to progress to the Vocational Graded Examinations aspreparationforemploymentasaprofessionaldanceroraspreparationfordanceteachingqualifications.
The Graded Examinations in Classical Greek Dance are intended to be taken consecutively andmost candidates will wish toprogress through them in sequence in order to develop and demonstrate the requisite skills. However, in cases whereexaminationsareundertakenwithoutsuccessinthepreviousgrade,thecandidateneedstobeatanappropriatelevelofphysicalandartisticdevelopment.BeforeacandidateenrolsinaclassleadingtoaGradedExamination,teachersareunderaparticularduty,therefore,toassesstheachievementofthecandidate,particularlywithregardtosafedancepractice.GENDERDISTINCTIONS
TheGradedExaminationsinClassicalGreekDancearesuitableforbothgendersandaredesignedtodevelopthestrengthsandabilitiesof bothmale and female candidates. There are some separateexercises,which are intended to reflect theparticularskillsoftheindividual.TIMEALLOWANCES/NUMBEROFCANDIDATES

CLASSICALGREEKDANCEVOCATIONALGRADEDEXAMINATIONS INTRODUCTION RATIONALETheVocationalGradedExaminations inClassicalGreekDance, from IntermediateFoundation through toAdvanced2,developthecandidate'sexpertiseinsuchawayastoprovidethebasisforeitherprofessionalemploymentasadancerorfurthertrainingasadanceteacher.Throughoutthestudyofthesyllabus,candidatesarefollowingavocationalpath,requiringahighlevelofcommitmentandwithanincreasingemphasisonsafedancepractice.Successfulcandidatesatthislevelshouldshowvirtuosityinperformance,ahighstandardof techniqueanda soundknowledgeandunderstandingof theClassicalGreekgenre, includinganunderstandingofreferenceand context. Candidatesundertaking a studyof theClassicalGreekVocationalGraded syllabus should also typicallydisplaya senseof self-awareness andbe self-motivated in termsof theirpersonaldevelopment.Asdistinct from theGeneral

Graded examinations, a greater degree of personal interpretation is encouraged and the candidate is expected to show thepotentialtocommunicateeffectivelywithanaudience.Candidates will need to show the qualities of professionalism, commitment and focus, with the ability tomanage a greaterworkloadthanthatrequiredfortheGeneralGradedexaminations.Thiswouldtypicallyresultinasuccessfulcandidatespendingsignificantadditionaltimeeachweekinlessons,inpractisingandinstudyingindependently.TheVocationalGradedexaminationsare concerned specifically with the mastery of technique and underpinning understanding, to a level sufficient to preparecandidatesforfurthervocationaltrainingandmatchcurrentexpectationsintheemploymentsector.The Vocational Graded Examinations are regulated qualifications on the Regulated Qualifications Framework. IntermediateFoundationislocatedatLevel2;IntermediateislocatedatLevel3;andAdvanced1andAdvanced2arelocatedatLevel4.AIM
TheaimoftheISTDVocationalGradedExaminationsinClassicalGreekDanceistoprovideanassessmentscheme,whichgivesthebasisforthemeasurementoftheindividualcandidate'sprogressanddevelopment,inpreparingtobeaprofessionaldanceperformer or teacher. There are four practical examinations graded to measure appropriate stages of development from ageneralstandardofClassicalGreekDanceeducationtothatofprofessionalcompetenceandreadiness.OBJECTIVES
Intermediate Foundation is an optional examination, otherwise these examinations must be taken in the correct order.ExemptionfromtheIntermediateandAdvanced1examinationsmaybeobtainedifthecandidateisastudentwhoalreadyholdsan equivalent genre Intermediate or Advanced 1 certificate of an Ofqual approved dance awarding body. Application forexemptionmustbemadeinwritingtotheUKExaminationsdepartment.GENDERDISTINCTIONS
TheVocationalGradedExaminationsintheClassicalGreekDancearesuitableforbothgendersandaredesignedtodevelopthestrengths and abilities of both male and female candidates. There are some separate exercises for each gender, which areintendedtoreflecttheparticularskillrequirementsoftheindividualinaprofessionalcontext.

ThisisanoptionalexaminationwhichcanactasasteppingstonefromtheGeneralGradedExaminationstoIntermediateorserveas an introduction to studentswhomay be unfamiliarwith Classical GreekDance.
